You see this all the time, a woman has all these insane preferences on online dating sites, then when she meets a man irl, he maybe checks 2-3 of these boxes - the obvious differences between male and female attraction aside (ie. men are more visual and women are more driven by vibe - assuming the guy isn’t unattractive - ie. sub 5, just to get that out of the way), women generally tend to treat online dating as online shopping.

If you’re shopping online, odds are you want to go for the best product possible, you start looking for very specific details for said product whether it be price, size, color, functionality, make, etc - and because the ‘vibes’ aspect is more or less gone with online dating, it automatically gets treated as the preference tab in online shopping.

To put it bluntly, no guys, you don’t have to a 6 foot tall giga chad making 6 figures who owns a condo downtown to attract a woman, however, if the option to buy the best product possible via this medium is there, especially since you literally can’t go by any other metrics, that’s where you will naturally go. That’s actually also why you have to be the top of the top to attract women based on looks alone, they’re flat out not wired the same way. i also think that’s why there are so many more man than women in dating apps, especially in countries with a robust social backbone. Dating apps, generally speaking, are not compatible with feminine sexuality

Of course, this does open a conversation about how online dating commodifies human relationships and how it does more harm than good (for everyone, the male online dating strategy is a whole other rabbit hole in itself - but that’s not the topic here), and how it does turn people into products, but that’s kinda why apps should be avoided.

I think these factors need to be kept in mind when talking about “women only swipe right 5% of the time”) - when the amount of men on the apps at least double you, and when you have to go by pictures and a bio exclusively, you’re basically shopping for a product. So don’t take dating app preferences too seriously, and for the love of god, stop using these things. If anything because the apps want men to stay single, only giving slivers of hope for something to happen.
