So let’s assume we all start as equals. Not sure at what is the official age that we learn that we are attracted to other humans but I recall crushes as far as back as being 5-6 years old.

You move through life, elementary school, middle school, high school, college etc and at some point probably develop a sense of romantic feelings towards other human beings which may or may not be reciprocated.

Do we think that when it comes to the humans we are attached to it’s something more deep rooted? Or more that it’s something that we learn to adjust based on who returns our romantic feelings throughout life and we learn where we rank as far as attractiveness and who is a realistic partner for us?

For example, I know I’m around a 5 on the attractiveness scale. I can recognize that males that are within the model range are attractive human beings but generally don’t have any romantic feels for those people because I just know they’re not in my league and it would never work out. I know men irl who are models and I can look at them and think ok you are really good looking but there is no instant connection or attraction to any of them. On the other end there are people where I just don’t find them sexually appealing whatsoever and don’t view them as a potential match for me, and it’s just an “immediate no” response.

So I guess my question is, are our general romantic suiters a learned behavior or something else? Taking a look at the past I definitely have a preference for a specific type of look in men.

Do we think there is a difference to what we find as very attractive (learned or innate) between men and women?
