I love RPW. I love embracing femininity. You know who makes me hate being feminine sometimes? Men. I really wish it wasn’t that way though. There’s a lot to appreciate about the men I am friends with or work with. I love their ambition and their intelligence and their boisterousness and other good qualities. But time and again I feel so WORN DOWN by the constant objectification that’s so normalized with young men. I’m so tired of going into work and being surrounded by guys gawking at the clientele that comes in and reducing them down to how much they would like to “smash her”. Media can be exhausting. I can’t even watch a cooking competition without having to endure a scene where all the chefs are going on about how much they love their competitors’ “big fat booties”. I hate that I can take care of myself so much, that I love myself and find myself attractive, yet I still have to deal with the occasional heartache of my boyfriend watching porn. I hate that so many of my bosses, supposedly professional men, felt free to say disgusting things about women around their female employees. I can’t even go to the convenience store before work without the owner’s son stopping me to show me ass pictures of one the multiple women they sleep around with. Flaunting his trophies. I hate how it’s affected how women get attention from men. I’ve seen smart, creative, lively women in my life reduce themselves down to nothing but bikini photos of their asses on Instagram because they know it’ll get the most attention. I’m only 25, but it makes me think back fondly to the days where I was an 18 year old girl with my hair chopped off traveling the world and taking shit from nobody. I love being feminine and domestic and trying to build a home for me and my boyfriend, but it feels so fragile, I hate how fragile it all feels. It’s like an endless competition with me and other women and everybody’s losing to these cavemen.
