We need to seriously, seriously stop direct linking to websites like these. It's getting fucking out of hand.

From the "About Us" of that website:

The Mary Sue sits at the nexus of pop culture and the uncharted universe. We love and live geek culture, comic book movies, genre television, space exploration, emerging technologies, the coolest video games, and the weirdest finds on the internet. We promote, watchdog, extoll, and celebrate women’s representation in all of these areas and work to make geekdom safe and open for women.

This place is an Anita Sarkeesian wet dream, and TRP is literally feeding them money with clicks. Learn the art of donotlink.com.

If you wanna financially support women, go stuff a dollar bill in a stripper's asscrack. At least you're getting the lapdance for your money.

donotlink.com

I prefer http://archive.today/, it doesn't just stop their Google search rank, but the ads as well. Kinda like a redditlog for websites.

[–]MUTHAFATHAGENTLEMAN 15 points16 points17 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hijacking the top comment to post a link to the website through https://archive.today/, which is a great tool for not improving their Google Search rank, and not giving them ad revenue.

Here's the article: https://archive.today/u5GUE

[–]MSoftHarem 25 points26 points27 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Agreed. I am working on updating our blacklisted domains to include this and a few others. If anyone knows of any other popular sites feel free to list them here.

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I started a new thread about this. I'll start a list of a few, others can contribute.

[–]MSoftHarem 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sounds good fella. I just updated Automod with a few, but I want to get a comprehensive list and then roll it out to the rest of the RP network.

If you're going to make this complaint, get it right. donotlink is useless, use archive.today.

This is what annoys me. It's this doublespeak where it's like "hold the door open for us, while not holding the door open for us"

I give exactly zero shits about the gender/sex of whoever creates stuff I like to see/consume/play/etc. Sitting around creating websites about how you can't create shit I/we like does nothing except add to their own self-reinforcing stereotype.

Except ad revenue, I suppose. That certainly does keep the lights on.

USE THIS LINK!

[+]Teeklin -25 points-24 points-23 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

How about financially supporting the person who created the article that we spent our time reading and discussing?

They put work in to create it, and that work has enough value that we are upvoting and talking about it.

Seems very petty and vindictive to want to ban linking to a website based entirely on those who run the site.

I think Fox News is a bunch of immoral assholes who are ruining the intellectual discourse in our country. I don't visit their website or watch their channel because of it. But when I do watch or read something from them, I don't feel the need to try and finagle my way out of giving them their due.

If you truly don't support the site, don't click the link. Just that simple.

[–]SekcRokStallion 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Clicking ads isn't the only way you contribute to the financial success of a website. Metrics such as traffic, time on page, bounce rate, hell just the link from reddit pointing at the site is providing a bit of SEO. All contribute to the sites placement on google. When a bunch of TRP'ers check the site out... Get annoyed with the dialogue, go to the about me page, see another article that gets the blood boiling and click that, the sites rankings improve. Which means more traffic from people that may click ads.

Google doesn't have an upvote, downvote system as robust as reddit. We really need to quit direct linking to these sites.

[+]Teeklin -8 points-7 points-6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

My point is that the sites rankings should improve because we are in fact spending time on the site and reading its content.

What a pathetic lonely little universe the Internet would be if every website owned and operated by someone you disagreed with was ignored.

[–]SekcRokStallion 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If the site was going to rank better for keywords like "feminist harpy word vomits on Joss Whedon" then sure... TRP should contribute. But the increased rankings from the link provided here at best will get it a better position for "feminist throws joss whedon under the bus".

That doesn't do anything to progress the narrative of TRP.

[–]anonlymouse[🍰] 76 points77 points78 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

And that's why I like Buffy.

Of course if you want to present it that way, you can, but that's what happens when you make a balanced show where everyone has strengths and flaws.

No character was perfect, each main character had strengths (even Xander from the start was socially the most adept), and each female character had a male equivalent (Buffy & Angel/Spike, Willow & Giles, Cordelia/Anya & Xander). So if you subscribe to the dictionary definition of feminism, it absolutely was feminist. Whedon showed strong female characters by comparing them to strong male characters - as opposed to Xena which could only make Gabrielle look strong by bringing in Joxer to be her object of abuse - which is what you would expect equality to be.

She's right, Whedon's not a feminist in the sense of what feminism actually is. He's an egalitarian. Feminist media can only have flawless women and only have men who are entirely flawed. Anything more balanced is misogyny.TM

[–]sudoaptgetinstall2 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I used to think Whedon would be kind of a prick because he appeared to be such a vocal feminist, but everything I see from his creative mind is usually spot-on, intelligent and reasonable.

If modern feminism were what Whedon subscribed to, it wouldn't be bad at all: women being independent and strong, and men being independent and strong.

[–]sciencegod 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

What is this independent shit? Independent is a word some lawyer or politician invented a long time ago to give a few people the delusion that they are not dependent on civilization or other human beings in anyway. That lawyer or politician expected the world to believe "independent" people actually exist.

Social Justice idiots and progressives pay lip service to "independence" and every women constantly tells herself she doesn't need a man and is a "strong independent women," even as she spends all her time thinking about how nice it would be to have a man around and forgets about the built world around her- provided by other humans.

Homo Sapiens are tribal and social animals. Humans are not independent and never have been. In fact, prolonged isolation induces psychosis in humans.

Forget this independent horseshit. What does it even mean? That individuals live as hermits, completely detached from civilization and civilization's benefits.

The only truly independent people on the planet are hermits that make their own food, clothes, shelter, and protection. They are rare.

[–]sudoaptgetinstall2 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A true man is independent. You should be striving towards outcome independence.

There are levels of independence. You think independence is fake because humans are social beings? What about independence from alcohol, or drugs or sloth? A man can be independent from vice.

Yeah, some people say they're independent and don't need a man or a woman even though that's bullshit but that doesn't make any kind of independence a made-up concept.

[–]omnipedia 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your position presumes that voluntary association is the same as dependence. It is not.

[–]BetterToBeFeared 64 points65 points66 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Your gender must really have it good in our society when you start complaining about a dude who makes shows where the women kick ass and take names.

[–]Silverbacked 23 points24 points25 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can't help noticing she doesn't mention the first show Whedon was a writer on. It was 'Roseanne'

[–]trudatness 20 points21 points22 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Feminists will always drive a bus over their white knight supporters.

Always.

Why?

Because they hate men. No matter how much you kiss their ass, they're still going to hate you.

Inevitably time comes for every white knight when they become the low hanging fruit for a feminist to unload on. When that happens, they become the target of feminist hatred for all men.

[–]anonlymouse[🍰] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's Queen Bee syndrome. Their whole purpose of existing is to establish a pecking order, and that doesn't work without an omega to pick on. If you join feminism as a man, you become an omega - and they will never be satisfied.

[–]1spicy_fries 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because they hate men. No matter how much you kiss their ass, they're still going to hate you.

Right on.

I would just add that they hate the men that don't pass their sexual standard. James Deen could murder a gal and they'd still give him a pass.

Joss Whedon... he's still a little creepy.

[–]trudatness 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Look at the weird TJ Lane shit.

He did murder people and tumblr bitches be like OMG He's So HAWT

Then those same Tumblr dipshits whine about Patriarchy.

And they wonder why we go WTF?!? and think they're all fucked in the head.

It's because women are lizard brained and want what they want.

What they want = good

What they don't want = bad

and then all the convoluted contrivances come afterwards supporting why it is rational and enlightened and not all at selfish.

My reactions to seeing this thread & title:

"Wait, Joss Whedon is a girl?"

"Or... a dude that became a girl?"

"Oh wait... they don't mean it like that."

"Damn, Buffy is hot."

"Ok this article is boring."

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I only got the last two steps.

[–]areyousrslol 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's always fun to see feminists throw their own under the bus. Like recently, one girl falsely accusing Max Temkin of rape was all it took for the walls to come down on him.

It's pretty sweet.

[–]tallwheel 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When will male feminists learn? Manginaism doesn't pay. Definitely doesn't pay in pussy. May cost you your reputation though.

[–]87GNX 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I have to say I like Whedon's female characters.

Yes, they're strong women who kick ass and take names. But they all remain resolutely feminine. Kayley's room on the Firefly has a girly hand-lettered sign with her name on it, Inara is a whore who went to whore school and fully understands the SMP/MMP, and Zoe, even while being the "strong independent" self-identified bitchy woman, doesn't ballbust her man. She's a cunt but she clearly respects him.

I wouldn't necessarily call the show "red pill," but the women are decent role models.

[–]JoshtheAspie7 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Wash: "I am a leaf on the wind. Watch me soar." Saves the day

Zoe: "Excuse me captain, but I need this man to rip all of my clothes off."

Wash: eyeroll "Work work work."

The fact that he is one of the best pilots out there, saves her life on a regular basis in combat that just isn't hand-to-gun-to-foot, and is able to be cocky and funny at the same time may have something to do with it.

[–]HeadingRed 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If there ever was an example of the "never happy meal" this is it. This guy writes and puts a ton of really tough, smart, ass kicking women in everything he does. So-

Step 1 - write\direct\produce a string of critically and\or publicly well received shows and movies, each of which has balanced strong male and female leads.

Step 2 - Admit you like pretty girls

Step 3- Hamsters engage. Set weapons to "destroy career"

[–]shakethesh 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Once upon a time I would have said the only solace we can take is that feminism couldn't destroy the career of such a successful and loved person.

Then I learned about the proclivity of false rape accusations against celebrities :/

[–]1kick6 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I can only comment on firefly as it's the only show she comments on that I've seen, but holy fuck does she get things amazingly fucking wrong. I'm actually Anchorman-impressed at how her ideology has so warped her perception of things that she could write such a steaming pile of dairrhea. Prostitution is the highest job for a woman in Firefly? Did she even fucking WATCH the goddamn show? Mal mocks Inara endlessly for it.

[–]SweetSonOfABitch 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I guess she missed the part where the ship's chief engineer is a woman. Maybe on purpose, since we all know how much feminists hate male-dominated fields like science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Let me guess--it doesn't count somehow, because Kaylee is the most traditionally feminine character, something something internalized misogyny, bullshit bullshit.

Disclaimer: I did not read TFA

[–]1kick6 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She mentions Kaylee, and dismisses her as a male fantasy because "every man wants a woman that can fuck, wants to fuck, and can fix the car too." More or less...

[–]ChuckBlizzy 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This "Nice Guy" link was more offensive to me than the first article. It's almost like they're saying, "It's so childish, stupid, and offensive of you to generalize about women. I can't even believe anybody would do something like that, what is wrong with you?... but since you you did it I'm going to make a bunch of generalizations about men and everyone needs to cheer for me."

Feminism always eventually turns on even the most compliant and submissive of male "allies".

That's because feminism is a simple equation. "Construing an injustice" == "power". The more "injustice" they can find, the more power they have. In fact, feminists are more inclined to pick on "allies" than us horrible, horrible misogynists. Why? Because the only weapon they have is whining, and that doesn't work on us.

So, the more they use their weapon, the more power they have, and the more vulnerable their target of choice, the more power they have.

Being an "ally" is therefore the best way to maximize your expectation of being targeted by feminist criticism. This is why feminists attack the tech community non-stop, and keep their pie-holes shut about Saudi Arabia.

Of course, feminism would be doom the moment a large portion of men woke up to the fact that it's more dangerous to be feminism's friend than its enemy.

That video was amazingly prophetic.

If anyone doesn't get the point of it - after whedon came out in favor of Anita Sarkeesian's drivel, this guy named Thunderfoot (who has authored several videos criticizing Sarkeesian's work and refuting her claims) created the video linked above in order to demonstrate how easy it would be to turn her dishonest narrative technique against whedon. Josh Whedon does not hate women, but it's possible to claim he does using only Sarkeesian's crazy logic.

The message to whedon: take care because they'll be after you too one day ...and now here we are.

[–]scottlapier 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Reminds me of the quote about the holocaust, "First they came for the socialists and I didn't speak out..."

[–]Lord_Sif -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually Joss Whedon does hate women, since he would rather lie and pretend that feminism is a good thing. An ideology that means that there are less women in the future hates women.

[–]tallwheel 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah. I thought of this video immediately too when I saw the link. I wonder if feminists saw Thunderf00t's video and were actually convinced by his sarcastic argument that Whedon is sexist.

Even other feminists are calling the author out on her bullshit;

Don't worry, I think she has the whole thing completely wrong. I am a huge feminist, and am an obsessive Buffy fan. She's cherry picking her arguments and ignoring how Whedon refutes them himself.

Forced interpretation of events to fit the agenda in question;

Buffy, for all her killing vamps and breaking stuff, is rather a weak character. Let’s consider that she, as a Slayer, descends from a line that was literally created by men – a formation that stems directly from the male anxiety over an inability to create life the way that women do. And inherently problematic is the idea of the Watcher, a predominantly male presence that is the male gaze made manifest – a source of constant looking that is an explicit form of control.

This was my favourite show when I was 12-16, and I can tell you the 'watchers' were rubbish. The audience was made to dislike them, the only good watcher was Giles. It was presented like one of those government agencies that fuck everything up and the protagonists gets to do a told you so and saves the day.

In my personal opinion Buffy saving the day had nothing to do with her being female. She just did - it still is a feminists wet dream, although they won't be able to pin point why. The watchers weren't annoying because they were men, they were just old cunts acting in self interest.

In fact, during the 'army guys' season, the leader of that faction was an old woman and she fucked everything up. Screwing over her male subordinates , kind of like how the male watchers screwed over buffy.

This is as 'equal' as you can get - characters being completely A-sexual except in their relationship sub-plots.

edit - But now I think about it Buffy breaking loose from the shackles of an old white man society probably is supposed to be empowering to women. Wow, no wonder people shy away from female protagonists in entertainment, their own team could misinterpet what they are doing and try to burn them for it

[–]humankin 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You could interpret literally every point the author makes in the opposite way

"The Watchers, the Alliance, the Bollhouse customers are all men..."

...b/c Whedon is a Patriarchy-Paranoia Conspiracy theorist and loves to make heroines sticking to the Man (not the Woman)

"...the Dellhouse episodes repeatedly show the heroine getting punched..."

...b/c Whedon plays up the problem of Violence Against Women and, again, his villains are 99% male. Perhaps she thinks the heroines should get to beat everyone up without the villains fighting back without any competence ever?

"...presents Buffy riding the cock carousal, and he lauds Inara's whore status..."

...b/c he's a sex-positive You Go Girl -er who considers sluttery empowering

My biggest complaint is with the companion part of the firefly section, male companions are just as important and powerful as female ones. And I think that the companion plot line was more to express that sex isn't just a dirty thing and should be beautiful and honorable. And this viewpoint is commonly shared among feminist, and Joss is trying to show that this belief is commonly held yet debated in the future setting.

serious question:

Where are the Feminists and women that support and back the work that was at one time heralded as forward and new age thinking; or do these same women just believe whatever is put in front of them?

If you've been following the #gamergate discussion for the past 3 weeks, you're noticing feminists and other people throwing nerds, geeks, and gamers under the bus, even though they are the type of people who will write "OMG IM SUCH A NERD" for attention. I'm pretty sure this is just a subsequent fallout from that.

As a result, I don't think this link really deserves that much attention.

I'm reminded of something Bernard Chapin said, leftists always attack their own.

So does the right...

The left is moving us in a certain directions, against our biological imperatives. The right represent these imperatives, but they are very different across different populations and cultures. In Europe and Europe influenced world this might be nationalism, racism or other already loose kin associations. In the Muslim world the right is tribalism, extended family bonds, etc.... So someone who is on the "right" (for example a nationalist) in Europe is very much on the "left" in the Muslim world, as national kin association are much weaker than what they have now (look consanguinity rates)

http://www.consang.net/index.php/Global_prevalence

So yes, there are plenty of examples of the left eating its own, but there are just as plenty of the right eating its own, from a modern European perspective (which has moved towards the left compared to the rest of the world) : tribal wars can be interpreted as the right eating its own (different "right" ingroups fighting each other) and so can for example Hitler's wish to kill off the Slavs.

So this saying is quite meaningless, it's hypocrites criticizing hypocrites and offering no solution.

It's one thing to talk about liberals and one thing to talk about leftists.

I read this years back. It's literally the feminist tactic of finding reasons to ev offended by everything. It's like The recent spider woman fiasco, where all these feminists claimed "you wouldn't draw Spider-Man like that" except they did, and they drew him in far more suggestive positions, but still haven't seen any feminists take back their words.

Feminism is no longer about equality, it's about Demonizing men and pushing an agenda that paints women as victims but also independent and capable. They literally want all the protections of gender norms while shitting all over them.

The hilarious part is they ignore that when women cosplay, they overwhelming choose the sexy characters. Real fans love it. Cause like male super heroes, female super heroes are wish fulfillment. Men aren't all supercut with ridiculous muscles. We don't walk around in nude body paint spandex.

Feminism is a disease. It's Demonizing men.
