tl;dr- Mainstream Reddit is pretty blue, don't pay it too much mind.

I've been subscribed to the starterpacks subreddit for a few months now, a collection of images describing a particular type of person for those who don't know. A frequent subject of discussion is the rise of the use of "cuck" as an insult on the internet in general, usually spewed in some fit of anger by an angsty white male. This naturally leads to people asking what the term means, followed by an explanation and the discussion goes from there, though usually with a different spin then we take it here.

I actually thought Miss_Xhiel gave a very concise explanation of why the term has become the hot commodity insult and agreed with their loathing of the term's overuse, but they lost me with this SJW-esque line:

It's horribly misogynistic, as if to imply women are somehow a property to be owned, and that they can somehow be stolen, and you're the responsible party for being a beta. It goes right in with the 'nice guy' mentality that you're owed relationship or sex for your good deeds. As if it's a commodity to be bought, sold, or stolen. It's icky.

So yeah, being disturbed by the idea that your partner would violate the fidelity of your relationship is now classified as misogyny. Being bothered by the idea of being tricked into raising someone else's kid (the actual definition in the context of biology) means you hate women. God forbid you want an exclusive monogamous relationship, you horribly oppressive shitlord.

The reason cuck is an insult to men (and a hard hitting one) lies in the fact that males have to compete with each other for the favor of females who tend to choose the fittest, most virile males, it's been this way since before we became Homo Sapiens and likely will be for a long time to come. It's naturally humiliating and unpleasant for a man to be out-competed by other men. A cuckold simply makes a fetish out of giving up and admitting his inferiority to other, more masculine and attractive men. When you call someone a "cuck" in recent vernacular you're saying that he's weak, unconfident and unassertive and that he's accepted this and lets himself be used by women or just in general, not much different from "beta" except "cuck" goes further and implies that he's so pathetic he even takes pleasure in being exploited and taken advantage of. If a non-cuckold is a misogynist for not liking the idea of other men fucking his girlfriend, then equally so is the cuckold one for being aroused by it. Because it's for the same reason, the same biological response, humiliation and jealousy...This is also what makes cuckoldry distinctly different from swinging or wife-sharing where humiliation is not a significant factor... the notion that any of this has anything to do with misogyny is preposterous. It's a hardwired biological response.

Basic psychology, but that doesn't seem to apply here, because gender is a social construct or something... right?

So what you're telling me is that you view women as a property to be fought for and won. Neat. Glad we could establish that your backwards view of things has made you miss the central point of the post entirely.

Blaming patriarchy and objectification and privilege and not addressing any of the actual points of the argument, classic SJW arguments.

The last I checked, the above comment had a score of +2, but the comment explaining why being disturbed by cuckoldry isn't misogynistic had a score of -1. So more people of the starterpacks subreddit thought a straw-man argument was more relevant to discussion than a concise explanation of why people are grossed out by a particular fetish.

She follows up with this ad hominem haymaker:

Do you actually actively date? Because your view of how it works seems to be entirely contrary to the reality of things.

  • Challenging the BP status quo can have negative impacts to your comment karma, even if you don't directly reference TRP philosophy.

  • There's really no point with arguing with strangers on the internet, go outside.
