This very lengthy post is mainly the result of me getting sick that people always complain about being unattractive. Some people have it easier than others and are naturally better looking, this is a fact. However, there are many things within your control that can drastically change how attractive others find you. Although some of the following things are common sense that you've probably heard multiple times, based on the amount of guys I see walking around my college campus that follow essentially none of them, they're worth repeating. I hope even appearance concious people reading this will still benefit from at least one of the following tips. Let's start.

1: Your physique.

Probably the largest factor that you have control over. If you're overweight, eat less and move more. If you want to gain muscle, eat more (high protein) and lift heavy weights. People are naturally attracted to healthy (and almost always muscular) men. There are millions of resources available for weightlifting programs and diet so I won't elaborate into them, however make sure you choose one which is focussed on compound lifts (bench, squat, deadlifts, rows, pullups etc.).

2: Your hair.

Your hair is one of the easiest ways to alter your appearance (hopefully for the better). Don't be afraid to experiment with a few different hairstyles until you find one that works. Be willing to ask female friends honest opinions on what they think of different styles you try. Most importantly though, it should be something you're pleased with as having a haircut that makes you unconfident defeats the purpose. Here is a link to an album of different hair styles to give a ton of possible ideas (warning some are pretty awful). I'd also advice something low maintenance, as spending twenty minutes every morning on your hair seems wasteful to me.

3: Your facial hair.

A subset to the 2nd point, your facial hair is another aspect that is easy to change. Experiment to see what works. For a large amount of people, this will be clean shaven. However beards certainly do work on some people. It's also a good idea to clean up your eyebrows (get rid of your unibrow if you have one) however don't go overboard.

4: Your posture.

An important and under recognized factor of attractiveness. A person's posture gives you tons of information about them and largely affects how you perceive them (usually subconsciously). Many younger people (under 30) suffer from forward head posture due to lots of texting, studying, computer/console use etc. It's unattractive and can even exasperate health problems. Consciously try to have good posture while sitting and standing, and consider doing exercises to quicken the process. Fixing your posture can be a long and difficult process, but is a worthwhile investment.

5: Your skin.

Acne or discolouration are one of the easiest ways to lose points on your appearance. Keep your skin as clear as possible by precautions if you're prone to acne. /r/skincareaddiction may be able to help, or try to visit a dermatologist. I'd also advice everyone to moisturise and wear sunscreen, as your fifty year old self will thank you for it when you look 5 years younger.

  1. Your teeth.

Brush twice a day to keep your teeth in good health. It's very easy to turn someone off if they see decrepit unkempt teeth. Use whitening treatments if you're teeth are significantly yellow. Although not necessary for most people, if you're teeth are very bad, consider dental work.

7: Your style/clothing.

Another huge factor that you have complete control over. An incredibly attractive guy will be completely washed out if he's wearing oversized american eagle hoodies, cargo pants, and a pair of beat up sneakers. What you're wearing is the biggest indicator of how put together you are. Fashion is too large of a topic is delve into extensively, but at the bare minimum ensure that your clothes fit correctly and are mature enough for your age/location. Oh, and don't underestimate the importance of nice footwear.

8: Your persona.

Again, incredibly important but also too broad to deeply delve into. As everyone has heard millions of time, be confident. The biggest tip I can give towards this is to just be comfortable (or pretend to be) in every situation. At a party and talking with a few people you don't know at all? It's fine, you're comfortable, add to the conversation if you have something worth saying and don't be afraid to make eye contact. Walking by a group of girls that turn to look at you? Don't put your head down to send a text or look away, just be comfortable. Get shit tested by a girl? Don't let it phase you, just be comfortable. Being comfortable allows you to laugh, tease, or be silent depending on what the situation needs. Aloofness and indifference are also often seen as attractive qualities (but don't overdue it).

9: Where you're seen.

How attractive girls find you is largely based off of your SMV, and how others perceive your SMV is hugely based off the places you frequent and are seen. Although I don't suggest altering your life to try to be seen in arbitrarily \"cooler\" areas, just be aware that people will judge you based on the lifestyle they believe you have, and where they see you can give them a lot of information towards this. This advice is also more relevant to people who may be seeing similar people more often (IE smaller cities, colleges, etc.) than those living in huge cities. In general though, good places to be seen would include the gym, library, events (concerts, shows, sports games), parties, outdoors, nice bars, etc.

10: Your hygiene.

It's useless to have great hair if it's always greasy, wear nice clothes if they're always dirty, or have beautiful teeth if it's accompanied by bad breath. Poor hygiene is the easiest way to lose points and all the above advice is useless if you don't have the basics of hygiene down. On top of showering often, brushing your teeth, and wearing deodorant, I'd recommend purchasing a quality cologne. A spray a day can go a long way to how you smell and smelling nice can make others find you far more attractive (sometimes subconsciously).

Hopefully this benefits some people.
