Basically my question is, which would get me to a higher SMV faster - focusing on strength gains and accepting slower weight loss or vice versa?

For fast weight loss I would focus mainly on a lot of slow moving like walking/hiking, and pretty strict calorie restriction. For better gym gains I would eat more calories and accept that I'm going to be obviously overweight for the foreseeable future.

In a vaccuum, with all other things being equal - which would get me laid fastest?

Edit: Thanks all, some really good and insightful comments. I realize that there are better forums to ask for the specifics of HOW to get in shape, but I posted this here specifically to get people's opinions on the importance of high strength versus low-bf in the SMP. Seems like the majority opinion is to go with slower weight loss while focusing on strength gains and body recomp. I really liked someone's comment about how weight lifting will give me a confidence boost that walking or cardio won't, that's a great point and I have noticed that in the past when I have focused on lifting.

I'm going into Monk mode for the next few months to really focus on making some positive changes. Thanks again for all the advice.
