30s guy here, definitely prefer thin women, maybe slightly toned but that's it. Kind of like a tiny jiggle to an ass that I can slap but not a map sized one. Nor do I find that hour glass shit, thicc girl garbage attractive. Honestly, if they have big arms exercise or not it's a turn off for me. A natural big ass on a fit frame is evolutionarily attractive because girls with wider hips have an easier time in childbirth. It has nothing to do with the Kardashians. Men have always liked nice asses. Television and social media simply brought the phenomenon into wider public awareness.

A muscular female ass (or male ass, for that matter) built from squatting is similarly hot because it signals physical fitness.

I think it's more a demographic shift. As America (and the west, generally) gets "browner" then preferences will shift, on the whole, away from "toned" and more toward "thicc". White dudes will still dig slender women, but over populations, tastes will change.

Some of it's generational, some of it's cultural. Some of it's just the increasing volume of those who always preferred it. Different people have different preferences. There were guys who loved curvy girls long before the Kardashians came around.

I am younger than you but probably not young enough to be the guy you are askin, but here's my 2 cents anyway:

Don't worry about it. Whatever body type you like, there are plenty of chicks who fit the bill. If the one you're lookin at doesn't, just go on to the next one. If her before picture fits the bill, but her now picture doesn't, then go on to the next one.

I try to never get too caught up in worryin about what the trends are or what other people want. That doesn't matter because it doesnt help me in any way.

I think the ass fad in pop culture comes from the body-positive thing. Previous standards of beauty had more emphasis on thinness, and boobs were very sexualized. But boobs are more genetic and thinness is rare while ass is attainable to overweight western people.

In African/Asian countries where more women have naturally-great asses they don't fetishize it as much.

IMO it's a result of fitness culture / social media influencers. There are influencers selling fitness programs specifically for the booty. Showing off trained bodies gets likes on tiktok / instagram. Therefore, today, it is a generational preference.

To be honest I never quite understood the appeal of those 90’s/2000s super skinny unhealthy looking bodies. For example skinny legs and big thigh gap is a big turn off for me.

Most people in the gym trying to change their appearance to make themselves more attractive are delusional. Men and women. Neither know what the other sex really finds attractive. It's not massive pecs and it's not a massive arse. Lifting will generally make men more attractive as long as they are lean. It doesn't really do anything for women. Everyone is limited by their genetics and targeted workouts do essentially nothing. The only thing that makes a really big difference is gear, which makes men more attractive and women less.
