I’m a woman. I’d probably say ‘hey, seems I’ve misinterpreted some things. Didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. Hope we can still be friends.’ Or something like that.
[–]HanEyeAm 9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's a very good one.
[–]lifeintraining 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I second this. Women crave comfort so if you state something like this with conviction then she will hopefully be okay.
[–]pierre_WaP 204 points205 points206 points 3 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link
Just make a joke about it and don’t bother her again. Trust me, she’s not interested. Whatever you do don’t pursue her anymore
[–]iceking123 36 points37 points38 points 3 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
How would you joke about it is my question. Ofcourse I wouldn’t pursue her again.
[–]RockyLeal 67 points68 points69 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Dont say it was a joke, that's super lame and any human being would see through you and think you are a coward. Instead, own it but at the same time don't give it importance. Like, 'hey i fucked up, im such a moron sometimes lol'. Something like that. And then never ever treat her in any way other than as a friend.
[–]GeezRick 41 points42 points43 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No don’t call yourself a moron. OP, it honestly doesn’t matter what you do in this situation. As long you don’t come across as angry, you’ll keep her as a friend. But understand that nothing you do will make her want to fuck you
[–]chasingsukoon 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
yes
avoid coming off as angry, annoyed or any other negative emotion
if she was slightly receptive towards me, I'd say"My bad that was a moment of weaknes" if she knows the meme
if she isnt at all receptive, I would type "yea it was LOL" but this reply also goes with my personality
[–]PuempelsPurpose 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is not the way lol.
Just say "hey, sorry that came across the wrong way. You're basically like a cousin/sister to me and I just wanted company. I hope you know that I value your friendship and now that I know that behaviour crosses a line for you, I'll never do it again"
That said, this is not a seduction question lol
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Hate to say it but you kinda need to have a read on her to know what she would say. If you are attractive to her and she got butthurt then you made a terrible read on her. Then again, when people are nervous they don’t know how to react and just make some kind g objection to present themselves as strong and clear headed.
I wouldn’t apologize, apologizing is just so weak and pathetic unless you actually did something serious like scratch her car or spill beer on her phone or something.
You never apologize for a chick rejecting you. You say “hey hope you aren’t mad at me for that message last night, it seemed harmless in the moment, but are we cool?”
Never say “I’m sorry” ever. Ever.
[–]pierre_WaP -4 points-3 points-2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I’d be like “I’m sorry for my inappropriate behaviour, I was just so cold last night, won’t happen again “ and laugh? Hahah honestly it could work or it won’t work. She’s moving out anyway so I wouldn’t care if it’s awkward. She’ll be out of your life soon
[–]omega05 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I wouldn't be apologetic about the situation or that apologetic
Something simple like alright my fault or haha no worries
[–]Nimitz_68 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
NOOO, do not make excuses for "wanting to be touched"... just leave it alone and apologize that it will not happen again.
[–]luroot 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yes, this move was super cringe, like sending an unsolicited dick pic to a friend with no apparent sexual interest. I mean, this is sexually-harassing a roomie and what puts women on guard with bitch shields. Cuz give a guy an inch, and he wants a foot...
[–]Nimitz_68 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Forget the foot, give the guy the width of a hair and they want the rest that comes with it.. Just leave it alone, apologize and move on
[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Absolutely awful advice. Don't be a quitter.
[–]Delicious_Ad_1853 76 points77 points78 points 3 years ago (35 children) | Copy Link
Unless she added a silly emoji at the end, that response is about as sharp as they come.
You clearly guessed wrong and she's nervous enough about it that she decided to shut that shit straight down instead of using one of the countless soft rejections.
In other words, she wants you to take this one seriously, so take it seriously. A straightforward apology for crossing the line is in order.
[–]SalesAficionado 11 points12 points13 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Lmao it was brutal. But OP fucked up. Live and learn. The issue I see now is that she's probably going to feel really uncomfortable being around him.

[–]talconline 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
He also says he "jokingly" tells her to clean up after him and calls her hot??? Something tells me this was far from the first line he's crossed. No wonder she's "shy" around him - she doesn't want to encourage him

What would you say? Or how would you apologize. I’m leaning more towards “my bad, I shouldn’t have texted you past 10pm nothing good happens then.” But if we can come up with something better I’m all ears
[–]Delicious_Ad_1853 18 points19 points20 points 3 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link
The exact words don't really matter as long as you're sincere and to the point like she was. As the one who messed up, you don't get to be the one that lightens the mood. She'll want to see that you understand that she's genuinely upset.
[–]MayhemReignsTV -4 points-3 points-2 points 3 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link
Screw that. She is going to be out of his life soon. I would probably just tell her to have a nice life. He does not have to apologize for his desires or expressing them. He sent a jokingly suggestive text expressing his desire and left it at that. He didn’t do anything inappropriate. If she’s uncomfortable and he is telling the truth about everything that he did, it’s clearly on her.
[–]Delicious_Ad_1853 24 points25 points26 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
This is OP's roommate and it sure sounds like he considers her a friend. Are your conflict resolution skills so poor that you would just blow off an upset friend just because he's moving soon? C'mon, that's weak shit right there.
Even if you don't understand why your friend is upset, at the very least a decent person would sit down and have a serious conversation about it. That's just basic respect for a friend.
And if you seriously don't understand why this friend is upset, spend some time thinking about why most women wouldn't even consider having a male roommate.
[+]MayhemReignsTV -14 points-13 points-12 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
But there are just certain things you should not apologize for and your feelings happen to be one of those things. I mean you could say that you’re sorry that she feels that way(but do not apologize for your feelings or acting on them) if you happen to really care. But it really sounds like she’s going to be out of his life soon and I don’t see this particular interaction being worth his effort or his dignity. He would be much better served by just giving her the “Next!” treatment and putting his efforts elsewhere.
[–]Delicious_Ad_1853 9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Do all of your bosses and coworkers know exactly how you feel about them? Or do you understand that not every feeling is appropriate to act on?
[–]MayhemReignsTV 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
It depends on how you act on it. You could want to murder your boss but if you put that energy into lifting some weights instead of grabbing the butcher knife, you have just acted on those feelings, but in a positive way. He left her a text expressing an interest in a slightly joking manner, that she had every option in the world to not act on. She decided to turn down his offer, which is her choice. But to shame him for just showing his interest is ludicrous. by the way, I generally hate bosses. That’s why I’m self-employed.
[–]Delicious_Ad_1853 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I agree that it depends.
Now, let's say you sent your boss a text at 10:30pm one night saying, "I want to kill you."
Do you honestly think you're gonna be able to walk into work the next morning and just play it off as a joke?
[–]MayhemReignsTV 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I’ve gotten texts from girls later than that asking if I wanted to come over. One, who was a friend of mine(not close, but knew her for years) was as bold as to text “Please come over and fuck me. Me and ——— just broke up and I am so pissed. Please, I really need you right now”. I was a little stunned by how bold that was but not offended, in the least. I actually never knew she found me that attractive and since I was single at the time and thought she was pretty attractive, despite being crazy sometimes, so I went for it. But I have had ones I did not find attractive shoot their shot and didn’t sudden feel afraid of him. Apparently, this roommate has been living with him for a while and it was very likely he had an attraction to her all that time. So why should anything change because he came out with it when she is leaving in 3 weeks?
[+]iceking123 -8 points-7 points-6 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I think this is absolutely right like I thought this sub was supposed to be a place for men with balls to say what they think but people here saying say sorry and sincerely apologize and they’re getting upvotes. I’m confused maybe this isn’t the right sub for me. I have no problem getting rejected and if she took it offensively that’s on her. I didn’t act on it, I was just having a playful text cause I couldn’t sleep and see if she wanted to snuggle. Ofcourse I’m not gonna continue to pursue her but I’m not gonna apologize for the way I feel either when I know I didn’t say anything wrong.
Edit: misspelling
[–]Delicious_Ad_1853 25 points26 points27 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The problem is that you made your move against a captive target.
The reason we talk about cold approaches so much is that a random woman out in a public place is free to walk away any time she wants. There's no safety issue.
This is your roommate. She's trapped. She's gonna be sleeping with one eye open for the next few weeks, praying that you don't get drunk and rapey one night.
That's not cool.
[–]MayhemReignsTV 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Jesus, what happened in your life? Most guys, even these days, I believe would never even dream of forcing themselves on a woman. There are some dirtbags, of course. But the OP really has not given any reason for anybody to believe he is that special kind of dirtbag, from what we know, of course. That’s why I said if he’s telling the truth in my post.
[–]Delicious_Ad_1853 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You're right that shes probably perfectly safe. I agree with your assessment.
We aren't the ones in the situation, though. Does she feel safe? I guarantee she feels less safe than she felt yesterday.
Remember, she didn't simply decline. She said that his advance was so unwelcome as to be inappropriate.
He missed the mark badly and he should set aside his ego for the 30 seconds it would take to let her know that he received the message and is taking it seriously. That's just basic social decency.

First off all, jfc dude, don’t ever text something like this to someone you haven’t already been sexual with. You see this person every day, why would you not explore this thread in person. It’s always 10000% better to initiate intimacy in person. Texting is cowardly and ineffective. Texting someone from the other room in a way that doesn’t match your in person behavior feels two faced af.
You messed up here, own it. In person. “Hey, I don’t know what I was thinking, I was seriously misreading the situation but I value your friendship and I hope we can move past it. this won’t happen again “ and ask her questions. And listen. This isn’t seduction, this is interpersonal conflict resolution. This is the basics of caring about someone, bring a good roommate, not making someone feel uncomfortable in their own home.
She’s not some woman from a bar in Vegas you’ll never see again that you can try a moonshot booty call with. You have a close relationship with her, this is not a “fuck it, shoot your shot” situation. She’s your roommate and presumably your friend. If you’re going to escalate with someone you’re invested in be conscientious of their feelings jfc. What you should’ve done is in person, ask her how she feels about you, has she been dating this year, what she’s looking for in a partner, yadayada, see if you get forward vibes, of shes open you’d know, then ask if she wants to cuddle in person.
Stop hiding behind your phone

A lot of responses are on point. I wouldn't try and make a joke out of it personally but I can see it working...
She's moving out and moves are in the top 5 stresses of life. She is stressed out most likely and that text probably rubbed her the wrong way. I would do a quick apology and not give a long rationale outside of a quick sentence of misreading a vibe.
How do you want the relationship to move forward? Her thinking you're a creep or thinking you are a decent man. Choice is yours...I'd go with the latter.

Don't apologise, just continue as normal. She is moving out soon anyway. Keep things civil but there really isn't much benefit to being friends with women. Most likely you put yourself in the friend zone by being over friendly and playful. Just pursue other women and don't be shy about it.

There really isn’t much benefit to being friends with women
This is completely false and it is indicative of the ridiculous and incel-y vibe that is taking hold on this sub. There are plenty of benefits to being friends with women. Women are very different than men and being friends with them gives you a whole new perspective on life that is very enriching. I have plenty of female friends and my friendship with them is completely different than my friendship with my male friends, in a good way. Not to mention being friends with women makes you more comfortable around women in general. And they also have friends that they can introduce you too that you can hit it off with. Maybe if more dudes on this sub had some real friendships with women they wouldn’t be so weird or creepy.

That is not inappropriate behavior. That is the double standard of its ok when I like you, not ok when I don't like you.
Do not joke about it. Do not do anything. Let her go. Anything you say devalues you so hard.
Don't listen to other redditors telling you to joke about it. No. No!
She lied, that does not force you to lie in turn.
Man the fuck up. You meant it, and she don't wanna so let her go, don't stay in the grey.
You should listen to your voice of thoughts, that weakness in it. That's deadwood. That's you being fake. Repression is another degree of deception, which is what you two are all about.
You dodged a bullet. Problem for you is that, she too, dodged a bullet.
[–]Titty_Slicer_5000 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
She lied
What exactly did she lie about? I guarantee you she gave him no indication that she was interested and he just texted her to basically come fuck. Hell yea that’s inappropriate to do to your goddamn roommate who has to continue living with you if she turns you down.
[+][deleted] -6 points-5 points-4 points 3 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link
She lies by using social presuppositions that she does not truly believe in.
She says "This is not appropriate behavior"
What happens when she finds her roommate hot as fuck, attractive, with a perceived great personality that makes her weak in the knees? Do you think she text back this is not appropriate behavior? Or does she text I've been waiting for this let's cuddle up and watch a movie?
I'm actually reading her subconscious and probable events because she is far far below my level of thinking. She's more instinctively matronizing him, telling him what to not do, so that she feels better; she rejected another chump and told him how to behave, only hot smart girls do that ain't it so? Oh but deep deep down, she's insecure and feels below people, that's why she play it strong on the outside, but that feel has been going for so long, that it's almost automatic now, and now she feels a great bit of relief and validation to tell him it's not ok.
Really? Who has it worse? What's that presupposed rule? Can't hit on your roommate? Oh, so you can't imagine a story where you hit on your roommate and end up wed and happy later?
Dig deeper then, what is that? Lack of social awareness is a crime now? It certainly isn't attractive, but it's not plain wrong, nor aimed at harming anyone.

What happens when she finds her roommate hot as fuck
She gives off signs that she’s interested. If you think girls will drop their panties for any hot guy that randomly texts them to come fuck then you just don’t understand women.
The inappropriate behavior here is his lack of social calibration and awareness, not the “come over” part per se. If she had given off signs she’s interested and they had heavily flirted/kissed/been intimate before then this would not be inappropriate.
I’m actually reading her subconscious and probable events because she is far far below my level of think.
Lol what the actual fuck? Guarantee you’re a fuckin creep dude.
Can’t hit on your roommate
You can hit in your roommate, just not the way he did it. You clearly have no idea how to hit on women.
Lack of social awareness is a crime now?
No but it leads to inappropriate behavior like OP’s. Something doesn’t need to be a crime for it to be bad.
You come off so hard as a stereotypical weird creep it’s uncanny.

I feel like a very small % of women will respond well to this late night text, even women who are interested. Maybe next time keep it more fun, like “up for a movie?”
It can also be her prior experience what makes her not too open about hanging in the opposite sex bed or her culture and the way they raise her. supposed she did help you to sleep but you got handsy
I wouldn’t joke about it.
“My apologies. Didn’t mean to offend”.
Id then proceed to not mention it again and live my life.

Personally I wouldn’t try to make this seem like I was joking. Just apologize and drop it, go back to being just roommates, if she wants to go back to hanging out etc. with you, let her come back to you in that way if she wants. I would also use the language from her text, and go with a similar tone, but would say it in person, if there is an opportunity. Just say “I’m sorry for sending you that text, it was inappropriate, and it wont happen again.” Just leave it at that.

Simply say “I’m sorry I misread our vibe, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable”. And start learning some goddamn social calibration my dude. Judging by your post she gave you no indication she was interested. In fact her “behaving very shy-like” is likely her being uncomfortable. And then you just randomly texted her to basically come fuck. It wouldn’t have been as bad if she wasn’t your roommate, but it still would have been off. But this girl lives with you. Did it not cross your mind how she would feel if she wasn’t interested? She has to continue living with you, even if for a short time, if she rejects you. You really need more social awareness man.

That seems like a good move. Don’t trip . Good flirt.

Don’t ever make the first move over text.

“I know”
And see what she says.
Edit: Don’t apologize because you know damn well what you were asking for and so does she. Own it. Obviously don’t push or pursue if she’s not interested, but don’t be embarrassed or apologize for what you want. Assuming your relationship is good, she will set her boundaries and you respect them, but again, don’t apologize for being interested in a woman - it makes you look unsure of yourself.

You should tell her that it wasn't a joke and that you have a huge cock for her to gag on. Probably lead you on anyways if I were to guess.
[–]LibrarianFinancial65 -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She is not interested. Say something like “I’m so glad you don’t see me that way”
she will be wondering what you meant for the rest of her life. Women overthink things. Spark her curiosity
[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Lol. You just asked wrong. She's shy. Gotta work up to that in person. Remember "It just happened."
DO NOT APOLOGIZE! As soon as you do that you've confirmed the frame that it was wrong, and it really wasn't. It's OK to want sex.
Maybe she isn't interested, but you gotta try like all your ancestors did.
[–]beenpimpin -3 points-2 points-1 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Apologising is cringe and pretending it was a joke is also cringe maybe tell her you know it was inappropriate you just felt like pushing boundaries. Say you were venting because you lost your job 😂
[–]EthicalSeduction 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You need to adjust and go at a pace they are comfortable with. If you don’t respect a boundary you lose trust and your chances are over. So it’s fine to say “yes I was hoping you were interested, but it’s fine that you are not.” Use this as an opportunity to show you are trustworthy and interested in being more than friends.

What was she doing for you while you were giving her rides?
[–]iceking123 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Literally nothing lol just trying to be a good human being
[–]omega05 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Has she ever cooked meals for you or give you gas money?
[–]iceking123 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
she has cooked meals for me and regularly asks me about my day and what I've been up to.

The rest of the comments on this post are why I will continue to stay on this sub. I thought it would swing the other way. Thank god.

Hey on the other hand it might go from moving out this month, to this week. Lesson learned. Roommates is a tricky one and often just a fantasy. I try to not make moves in situations where people feel trapped. (Why I also don’t do hike dates, or this roommate situation) It puts her in a spot of “oh shit, I live here /sleep here, now what “ rather it is a yes or no. In the future. Lightly flirt with roomie if at all, but maybe leave all of that on her.
How many roommates do you have? Do you have male roommates? Text them the same, so it seems you really are joking.. or text two or three other people you mutually know.. so it looks more like a gag.
