I read the book and I loved almost all of it. As a guy who has read a lot of such material it's one of the best out there actually. Not sure what you were expecting in terms of advice. Maybe you were looking for a "magic pill" that would make all women attracted to you? That doesn't exist. Maybe that's why you felt dissapointed. There is also plenty of advice in the book on how to attract women, such as being polarizing, non-needy, dressing well, and taking good care of your health. Maybe you missed those points? You can't say there's zero useful advice on how to make women attracted to you. That's just objectively false.

What other books would you recommend
[–]norwegiandoggo 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
No More Mr. Nice Guy, and "The Truth" by Neil Strauss.
[–]RealHumanBeing2020 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I would also add “How to Wind Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie. Although it’s not a “game” book, the methods and tips talked about within the book help one improve their game and simply become better at interacting with others.

No More Mr. Nice Guy,
People keep recommending this book but I found it to be completely unrelated to dating.
The target audience for No More Mr. Nice Guy is men who are constantly letting people (especially their girlfriend/wife) walk all over him. It's basically about how to say no.
It will not help you attract women.
It might help you in a relationship if you are normally a pushover.
[–]norwegiandoggo 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
It's basically about how to say no.
One core idea of the book is to learn how to establish boundaries. But there are many other elements to the book.
What do you mean by "help you attract women"? You mean women will begin to approach you as if you have some magical pussy magnet in your pants? Or they will magically swipe right on you on tinder? Then no. If those are your goals then this is not the book for you. However, being a guy who knows how to establish boundaries, and is congruent within himself instead of a people pleaser, will make a guy more attractive in the eyes of most women. But he will have to interact with women for a bit for them to notice that attractive quality. There is no magic pill to being attractive. It has hundreds of factors. That book discusses more of what consitutes an attractive mindset women like in men. It doesn't discuss looks, money, or fame for example. Those are more superficial qualities that will attract women early on. The "No More Mr. Nice Guy" book is for men who are already interacting with women they like, but are not getting what they want out of it.

Knowing how to establish boundaries and not being a people pleaser is a neutral thing. It doesn't make you attractive. But not being able to establish boundaries is unattractive. It's how women aren't going to be interested in you because you brush your teeth, but if you don't they will be turned off.
If a guy does not know how to stand up for himself it's the right book for him. If a guy doesn't have those issues, then there is no point in reading it.

Okay, I can agree with that.
Well yeah, obviously. It can be said for any book.

So how does one become polarizing ?
[–]norwegiandoggo 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link
Stop trying to fit in, and instead try to show people who you are. If you don't know who you are, this is obviously difficult. So in that case, you need to figure out who you are first.
[–]JohnZoffman 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link
Exactly. Im nobody, nothing special, no hobbies, interests or good stories to tell. Dont have strong opinions and no good observationskills.
I used to, but now im living in constant brain fog/being in my head. I always have my inner voice questioning everything, not thinking im good enough, thinking about what if's and overthinking everything. I cant just be present in the moment and say whats on my mind.
[–]norwegiandoggo 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
Why are you living in this brain fog?
[–]JohnZoffman 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Dont know.
I just constantly think, never have a quiet moment in my head
[–]norwegiandoggo 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Are you suffering from anxiety?

What's your lifestyle like? In terms of job, study, sleep, food, working out, social life.
[–]JohnZoffman 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Go to work, workout, eat, watch tv, sleep, repeat.
And then I see my son every other weekend.
No social life, unskilled manual labour.
[–]norwegiandoggo1 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Okay, so I would see a therapist about this bro. You're clearly suffering from some mental health issue. Time to check in with the doc
[–]JohnZoffman1 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
How do you figure that ?
Im obese and insecure because of my fat and my bald head, so therefor i dont socialize because i dont feel comfortable in my own body.
When im with trusted friends i know, i feel pretty good.
I figure that living in a state of constant brain fog and constantly questioning yourself are signs of bad mental health. Oh broooo you're obese? Well geez that's a big one. You know your physical health is bad when you're obese and your physical health and mental health are connected. Almost everyone who is obese walks around with mental health issues. You should probably see a therapist about your eating habits first and foremost. Over-eating is a form of self medicating from emotional pain. So you definitely need to see a therapist for all this shit. You're not mentally thriving right now based on your own description.
Trying, and i see my muscle definition changed since started working out. The chest and belly fat are still there and looks shitty.
Bald head and eating finasteride everyday probably isnt helping either. But when i see a completely bald man i get confirmed how shitty it looks. Then i get sad that im bald and lonely, then i comfort eat some shit and the circle continues
Go to therapy. Seriously. It's exits for a reason. To help you feel better.
Been to therapy alot in my life, also after my ex dumped me. Shit never worked, and it was many sessions each time. But thanks for your concern, have a good evening.

I love Mark and was a frequent subscriber to his blog before his got more famous. I like his writing, but you've got to understand that he's not saying anything that hasn't been said before by hundreds of wiser men. He's just done a good job of putting in his own words in a way the new generation can relate to. I read Models once, it had a overall positive impact, but nothing life altering. That's fine with me. Good read.
[–]CountFocus 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If it did not work for you, it did not work for you.
For me, it did some good, so I will give it subjectively 3 stars :)
[–]outsidecan8 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
because he realised after using mysterymethod and stuff himself that you can't MAKE girls attracted to you. If you're just not her type, it's game over. next. YOu can't 'convince' a girl. Would be like a fat ugly women convincing you that you desperately wanna bang her by using 'dhv stories' and stuff lol. It's a numbers game. Show intent. Find out if she likes you that way or not
[–]j__bay 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If that's what you got out of that book, I suspect you missed a whole lotta points.
It's a book about how to be a "man" (or person but it IS mainly targeted at males) in today's ever-changing societal structure without definite rules or role models. As someone with a very loving, yet not always present, socially not well-adapted father, that book has been immensely helpful for my personal growth.
Although considered somewhat controversial (though after going through tens of hours of his materials, I believe there is nothing substantially controversial in what he is saying, but it is very easy and convenient to paint him in a negative way), you may want to give Jordan Peterson a look/read, to get a sense of what Manson tried to adapt as dating advice, in a more general context; as a way of looking at and dealing with life and hardships thereof.
[–]maracay1999 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
The entire advice is basically "talk to women that are attracted to you"
I feel like it's only possible to have this view if you skipped entire chapters of the book. Isn't the main point of the book focusing on internal game (i.e. confidence, hobbies, dressing well, charisma, social groups, working out, making yourself into a person you're 'proud' of selling to a girl) and how to be more attractive in general?
I feel like this was 50% of the book, the other 50% was on the importance of polarization and how to do it well.
[–]Complete-Function704 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
What's polarization?
[–]norwegiandoggo 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link
To act and be in a way people are likely to have an opinion about (good or bad). For example, if you escalate with a girl it forces her to make an opinion (i like that he touches me or I don't like it). If you don't escalate, then she doesn't have to make an opinion about your behavior so then you are in that case not acting in a polarizing manner. Makes sense? Donald Trump is polarizing. He has his personality. And you either love it or hate it. The opposite of polarizing is a person with a pleasing wall-flower personality. No-one has an opinion about him. He's just bland and boring. No personality to speak of. He's just trying to fit in / blend in. He's a "nobody".
[–]BluePsychosisDude2 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Donald Trump is polarizing. He has his personality. And you either love it or hate it.
I think the key is that any kind of success or difference is polarizing.
All political leaders are polarizing by their nature: Obama, Biden, Hillary, George Bush, Trudeau, Macron, Boris Johnson, etc. To lead and stand out is to polarize people, because you have their attention. Even genuinely great people you think everyone would love like Mr. Rogers can be polarizing. Stepping out of the crowd at any point makes you polarizing, because it makes you a target, but it also gets peoples attention.
[–]Complete-Function704 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Thank you ! Also what does the "pull and push" and "escalating" stuff mean ?
[–]norwegiandoggo 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Push = show interest. Pull = show disinterest.
Escalating = gradually going from friendly touching to romantic touching

It's completely possible you didn't actually read the book. And by this I mean you went into reading it constantly thinking its overrated so you did everything you can to justify those expectations.
[–]gillmanblacklagooner 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No way. The basic advice is: Honest Living + Honest Communication + Honest Action...
Look, there’s no “magic joke”, “the best pickup line, “how to get all the girls” and the book says it in it’s first pages. It’s a book about how you can/need to invest in yourself and set your own goals.
This is a very good book.
[–]SithLordJediMaster 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
One of the best books I've ever read in terms of "attracting? women
[–]cannibalstreudel 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The point of the book is that it's not your job to attract women, and you'd be wasting time and energy trying. If you try, and then the woman's attracted to you - it probably wasn't your trying that attracted her. She'd still have slept with you if you didn't try.
Sure always self improve and make yourself more attractive (diet, workout, fashion, money etc.) but aside from that, why do you have to "attract a girl?" Are you not good enough as you are?
[–]mrpthrowa 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
At the core of it, the ultimate game is that you can't "make" women attracted to you. You simply have such hight value that you naturally attract the right women.

[–]mrpthrowa 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
they are not good enough. It's harsh but it's the reality.
I like Mark Manson and from personal experience his book Models is one of the most balanced and has actually pratical advice and maybe the one I recommend the most.
[–]5_7pickup 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The overall concepts and ideas are good. Just barely any actionable and practical advice.
He’s not a pickup coach, he’s a writer at the end of the day. If you want real actionable and practice advice then you need to do pickup.
I read models and thought that’s all I needed but I was wrong. Learning pickup for the past 6 weeks has been 1000% more beneficial than the book models.

I mean I love Mark Manson I think he’s a super cool dude but yeah I haven’t bothered with that book. It doesn’t apply to the situation for a lot of guys here so I’m not sure why it gets recommended so much

[–]Exmerus 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think the "vulnerability" advice is trash and it's just an elaborated thing to try to be revolutionary. Overall, I think it's a good book, it has some other very useful points. But I agree, is very overvalued by the community.
[–]Nofapdeity 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah most of those books are completely trash just approach women and read the sub for real field reports
[–]burncushlikewood 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I believe the best pua/manosphere author is vin dicarlo, I sound like a broken record pushing his material all the time, but it doesn't get a lot of attention but transformed my game immensely. Read the attraction code, then buy Pandora's box and read it all the way, it'll will help you understand what you need to do to pick up girls. Best game material ever no doubt in my opinion, it's tough to understand and implement but if you do you'll be pulling hotties in no time
