Okay, this might sound like an awkward question, but here's my situation:

I recently was dating a girl, I fell really hard for her and then she rejected me. I think one of the reasons why I fell so hard was the fact that I am essentially lonely, and I think the primary reason for my loneliness is that I don't have a good, solid group of friends that I hang out with on a consistent basis.

I live in New York, and I actually have made a lot of friends since I moved here a few years ago, but I don't really have a core group. At various points in my life I've had an awesome "crew" of people that I hang out with, check in with, that I go out drinking with on Friday night, etc.

How do you get something like that when you don't have it? It seems awkward to turn what are essentially acquaintances into deeper friendships, with men and women.
