yeah, but if you lift weights to get stronger and put on muscle that 2 becomes a 3
if you learn to eat right so you aren't a fat slob that 3 becomes a 4
If you learn to dress well that 4 becomes a 5
If you learn to groom and style your hair like an adult the 5 becomes a 6
if you learn how to interact socially with people in general, then women, the 6 becomes a 7
you see where I am going here.
its perfectly reasonable a 7 could land a 9.
If you tell yourself you can't , you will only prove yourself right.
[–]anonanomaly0 12 points13 points14 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Thanks man, now that you put it that way it makes sense. I never thought of it like that before..This makes it seem more achievable in chunks of progress towards the best version of myself.
[–]DisgruntledWolverine8 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
You should wake up every day and strive to be the best you that you can be.
You should feel confident every day that you are the best version of yourself and that being better day by day , the act of actively improving yourself, puts you ahead of 80% of fat slobs who won't get off the couch.
Seriously, making a plan and changing your life, and taking an active role in making it happen is what being a man is about.
Being a man means making a plan and taking action.
Women find this sexy as hell. Now go! make it happen!
[–]bilabrin 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I would agree and just add that if you have many positive social interactions in a day you can forget that maybe you don't look like a movie star and you will be happy and outgoing and genuine and it comes off as confident and charming.

Great post. This guy gets it.
[–]DisgruntledWolverine2 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Thanks,
I am short, I accept that I cannot change that, but I can change every single thing I listed.
and then you have confidence that changes the 7 to an 8 and shit... nothing is going to stop me...

Cause seven eight nine.
I'm sorry.
[–]Dr_Wily_MD 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is absolutely the best answer. I've seen very, very few people, men or women, who would still be a 2 after a decent haircut, some basic skincare, and a new outfit, let alone some diet changes and a workout. I'm a firm believer that our physical bodies, for the most part, are a direct reflection of our own self-image and self-love, with very few exceptions.
[–]jazz835 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Yeah lots of good looking guys have questionable faces. Look at Kilo Ren.
[–]DisgruntledWolverine 9 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link
Or Benedict Cumberbatch for example. Lots of women find those 2 guys sexy as hell, even though their faces are asymetric and busted as hell.
The french have a phrase "Jolie laide" that roughly translated means "Beautiful ugly"
Unconventionally beautiful essentially

Yep, that's pretty much what wolverine said above my comment. I couldn't agree more. I'm average looking at best, but when I had a six pack and a good shoulder to hip ratio, I was getting attention all the time.
Going to the gym after work!
[–]bobers654 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Good shoulder to hip ratio? Whats that like?
[–]DisgruntledWolverine1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

[–]anabolic92 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I do all of that and still invisible to woman, feelsbadman
[–]Squez360 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago* (9 children) | Copy Link
That's bs. It doesnt matter how fit you are, how well dress you are, or even how well you groom your hair if your face doesnt look good to women. A lot of women put on makeup so they spend some time to make their faces to look pretty. Therefore they do pay a lot attention to a person's face.
Also I'll add that the point/rating system doesnt apply well to men because lots of things are weighted heavily, women find different things attracted like there are even some women that dont know what they find attractive, and some days in a month women might find a guy more attractive.
Instead of points, explain it in terms of probability. 30% for looking good, plus 30% for having a good personality, and 30% for having a good job that makes good money. All these together you'll have a 90% chance to attract a girl. A guy who is hot AF could be at 50% and you can add miscellaneous things like knowing how to play guitar could add your chance up to 5% or more. The point is the rating attractiveness is useless on men because women are more complicated.
[–]DisgruntledWolverine 9 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
I mean if you want to take the self defeatist mentality you can, but it isn't very attractive.
If you build a better more attractive life for yourself, on a whole, you will be a better more attractive person.
I am not saying it doesn't matter at all. I am just saying the starting point is lower and there are a lot of other things you can do to work around it.
I am short. Like 5'3", and I do all these things.
I am not attractive to all women, but there are lots of women that are attracted to me.
I sleep with girls who are 5'7" routinely. Because I don't let my height limit me. My outlook is different. I refuse to accept defeat when there are other things I can do to improve myself.
Your percentage points may have merit, but the problem is between ages 18 and 28 women want something different than when they hit 28 and want to settle down.
The choice is yours bro...
[–]Squez360 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
It isnt i dont doubt you but what i personally learn is that women are becoming more shallow. Any average looking girl could easily hook up with a hot guy on tinder and a below average looking girl could look above average if they are pros at applying makeup. So why would any girl want a guy who looks average or less at this point?
[–]shouldofjust 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Have you ever heard of a little thing called frame control? You're right up there with all the dudes trying to impress her by flashing their Rolexes... this is the new paradigm, dude. Why WOULD a girl want you? That's a question you answer for yourself. Don't place your attractiveness in the hands of a random girl.
[–]anabolic92 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
This guy, even if we don't like it is saying the truth.
I go to the gym, tan, bursh my teeth x3 a day(white as fuck), groom x2 a week to my barber, spend a fair amount of cash in shoes, watches and expensive clothes, trim all my body hair but I'm bald.
Its a killer, bald is not attractive and all of the efforts named before become useless, I can tell you that If we rate the ammount of time I spend on being better version of myself as 80/100 I can't even get a glance of a girl who would spend, on the same scale, 5/100.
Balding, specially on a young age is a killer for your sexual life.
[–]ItsOvaNova 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Lol I'm genuinely curious what you look like. I feel like you're exaggerating all of your other features because there's no way being bald alone can hold someone back as much as you seem to think it does.
I can send pics tomorrow, but a few point:
I'm trying to grow a longer/thicke beard so my current one doesnt look so tidy, I can send pics from like two week ago.
I also started bulking a few weeks ago, pics sent will be also around 2-3 weeks ago.
For the selfie, as I have never take any in my entire life will have to be to the current features listed before (beard a little ¿dirtier?, eyebrows not done and sitting a little higher on bf). Also I never smile so I will probably look like a serial killer.
Yeah, I know girls who think bald can be sexy as hell.
Neil Strauss did alright after he decided to embrace it and shave it.
Jason Statham is hot by many women's standards even if he wasn't famous.
Here is a philosophical question. Would you rather be my height 5'3" with great hair, or whatever height you are and bald?
[–]anabolic92 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Your height.
And I'd give up my hair to be 6 foot tall... grass is always greener I suppose

You'd be better off googling for an answer, this topic gets covered weekly on PUA forums.
Looks are important, but not everything. Good looking guys with 0 game can struggle, average guys with amazing game can do well. Game is just extra value.
The PUAs say looks don't count because they sell game training, not plastic surgery.
[–]ZephirTheAwesome 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No, they don't matter for men much at all.
You always have this vocal segment of "no, it totally does matter and everything else is hopeless" commenters trying to shill this mindset every now and then, though.
[–]bilabrin 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
I don't know that they don't matter at all but I know fat guys with game and they take home good looking girls. They don't Date good looking girls probably because at some point the initial charm wears off and they realize they would be socially embarrassed but they do go home with them.
I think looks are part of 3 things: 1. Initial attraction and 2.Social status. 3. Sexual satisfaction.
You can overcome #1 by being charming and forward and pushing your way through. This helps alleviate #3 as well because women are less tied to physical attraction than men are. Their attraction has a much larger component of status involved. #2 is a bitch though because it can break the spell. Unless you are attractive or have status or just make a very deep and genuine connection it becomes difficult to do a committed relationship.
[–]shouldofjust 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Since when do looks affect social status? Be the connected fat guy, it's less tryhard even
[–]bilabrin 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Since when do looks affect social status?
A girl may not care what you look like but she will care what her friends and family think you look like.
If she gets a sense that her overall social standing will take a hit because of reasoning like "If that's the best she can do maybe there's something deeply wrong with her and she has to settle." Or maybe they don't think that per but just pressure her to do better based upon looks.
[–]Redpill1591 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Looks are the most important thing when picking up women. Tall, nice face and muscular: pick two. Being well groomed goes without saying.
If you're all three of those things, the women will come to you.
[–]shouldofjust 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
I'm all three of those things. You STILL need game.
Edit: I'm two and a half of them (not completely ripped yet). My friend is all three. It makes a difference but you STILL need game. Especially because hot guys are intimidating.
[–]Redpill1591 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You need some game, yeah. You need to smile a lot and be generally warm and welcoming or you'll get the "oh I thought you were stuck up" or "I thought you were an asshole before I met you" lines.
[–]tokyo72 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
I think 'looks' will always matter to a degree, especially if there's nothing else to judge you on (e.g. tinder game).
But I think confidence is king ... someone who is conventionally 'ugly' but confident (body language, stance, what they say, how they act etc) will be 'attractive'.
The problem usually occurs that the 'ugly' person thinks of themselves as 'ugly' and so naturally becomes un-confident about how they look - thus being less confident in general and giving off that vibe.
When they approach - they carry this lack of confidence into the way they act, stand, talk etc - this is unattractive and therefore defeats them.
If they can let go of the fact they think 'they are ugly' - and genuinely become confident (harder than it sounds) - then that will shine through when they approach and get definite attraction.
I think it goes even further than this - they end up being so confident - you don't even see them visually like you normally would - you almost look past the details of their face and just see 'them' as this confident person.
A great example would be someone like Casey Neistat.
The guy is the embodiment of confidence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7R5dTrG2xU
[–]yokhai 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Kinda. Looks matter to a degree, but nearly as much as everyone wants to believe.
You can be average looking and still pick up girls. But being attractive helps.
[–]Quintrell 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Looks absolutely matter, and to a large degree they are within your control.
There's a lot a man can do through diet and exercise to improve his physique. I wager just about any young-ish man can get a pretty rockin' bod if he puts in the time and effort. Beyond that, you just need to dress well (that doesn't necessarily mean buying expensive clothes) and find a hair and/or beard style that complements your facial features.
[–]Quithi 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well those that get into pickup are going to work on themselves and look better by working out, dressing better and styling themselves. Even if they don't do that, their confidence shines through and makes them a more attractive figure.
All of that said, you should work on your looks for yourself. Being attractive is known to positively impact your life socially, so why not work on it even if it doesn't bring you girls?
[–]exgodfather 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Looks dont matter if you act like it matter.
[–]fourpawz 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I would like to say looks don't matter, I personally would rather judge a guy by his personality first.. But it seems like in general in society they do matter to some extent which sucks but I see some pretty unattractive ppl in relationships and stuff so I have mixed feelings about it all
[–]Jaereth 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Your can pull girls without the looks, no doubt. But i gets a hell of a lot easier exponentially the better looking you are.
Looking good is part of game imo. 2 isn't going to land a 9 but what makes someone a fucking 2? I don't even think there's a 2 in my office right now for women. 90% of appearance can be mitigated through work. Lift, eat right, dress well. Personal Hygiene should be impeccable. I would say it's not even worth it trying to do PUA stuff until you actually look acceptable.
But it all goes back to the same thing, work with what you got. If when you are all polished up and everything is perfect you are still a 7, well yeah, it's going to be a bit harder for you than a guy who is a natural 10, but it's nothing you can't overcome (i'm living proof lol)
[–]V4refugee 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah it matters but unless you're hideously deformed then it shouldn't stop you from having at least some level of success.
[–]tractorinballs 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Looks are more about presentation than anything else. I've seen/been with a fair amount of women that look completely different when showered, dressed, hair done. It's the same for guys, you should go out and look at the average guy you see on the street and then try to not be that guy.
Edit: just saw the picture you posted- you have plenty of potential. I would find a nice beard trim that works for you better, or shave completely, the scruff look doesn't work for you. Clean up your eyebrows a little, even out your skin, dress to impress and boom you got this. Make sure to put in the personality work too.
[–]BFoskett 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
What is this?
[–]aldenso 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's whatever you believe it to be.
If you want to use it as an excuse to not talk to girls out of your league, or blame it for your failed opener - ya, looks matter.
If you want to up your game, take control of your life, and take what you deserve - no, they don't.
This topic comes up weekly, and it's always got the ugly guys on one side saying they matter, and the uglies on the other saying it doesn't.
The difference between the two is that the successful ones didn't give up on all areas of self improvement and made themselves into better more attractive (in numerous aspects of their lives - grooming, style, fitness etc) and the unsuccessful ones needed an excuse for their failures. They needed an easy excuse as to why they can't succeed in pickup, and that excuse is that they're conventionally ugly. But if you find yourself ugly and have no confidence that not only makes you physically ugly, but an ugly person internally, who has self worth issues, and you'll be ugly on so many more levels than your face.
[–]Spaceman7Spiff 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
In my experience, looks matter to both genders about the same with guys putting just a tad more importance on it. I've been with all kinds of girls (skinny, fat, pretty, ugly, smart, dumb...) and what I find attractive is a woman that knows how to "wield" her sexuality. For example, I dated a thin, beautiful, but shy and kinda dumb girl for a couple years. The sex was just awful. She didn't know how to wield the power she posessed.
I am currently seeing a girl that would be considered unattractive by most guys' standards. But she is not shy and is 'congruent' with who she is inside. Because of this, she is able to properly 'wield' her sexuality and the sex is probably the best I've ever had.
To continue to beat a dead horse... being a car guy, I think of it like this: a professional driver in a Prius could probably turn better lap times than your grandmother could in a brand new Corvette.
So, yes, looks matter but it's not the be-all, end-all of attraction.
