I'm by no means an expert, probably not even an advanced beginner, but it seems to me like you went for the # close too quickly. That might work with some girls if they are very attracted to you right off the bat, but you should allow a conversation to take place in order to give yourself a chance to build attraction. You only gave her a chance to judge you on your looks. Even if you're a sexy piece of man meat, an 18 year old HB9 has her pick of men. If you work on prolonging the conversation, you give her the chance to see you as the funny/witty/smart/successful/etc guy. Congrats on manning up and approaching though.

It was a shit test. You could have been like. "Oh wow, I thought you were 35 or something, my bad, kino well what do you think about this furniture? points to chair How come I haven't seen you around this town yet, do you live in this town or another one?" start a conversation and don't let her polite rejection effect your reality.

But honestly, she might be kind of right. 18 and 23 are worlds of difference in age. She's probably going through the whole "yay drinking parties are fun" phase meanwhile a 23 year old is typically getting out of that phase.

But still you shouldn't let her polite rejection effect your reality if you have raw attraction for the girl.

There is a WORLD of difference between someone who is 18 (just finishing up high school) and someone who is 23 (in real world). But honestly, I think she was letting you down easily and used age as an excuse.

If you were attracted to her and she was 18+ then that's not too young. Nobody would laugh at you if you were dating an 18 year old and you were 23. If you are 35 that's a different story, but in that case you would still feel raw attraction towards her, you just can't be with her because of what the public perception would think of you. Unless you're the type of person who doesn't care what other people think about you.

I think you went for the # close too quickly, I would just consider this a polite rejection. You did awesome by approaching her and getting rejected in the first place, that's way more than what 98% of men would do. Consider it a win on your part. If you try the same exact approach, it easily could work on the next girl, but I think a few minutes of polite discussion and rapport building can go a long way.

Just from a female perspective-she was absolutely letting you down, but trying to do it politely. The nice females will always give some kind of excuse why they won't give you a number-been there and done it. My job requires me to live that every day. You MAY have been able to number close if you had thrown more conversation in. Would have given you a few more minutes to see IOI's beyond just the smile anyway. Just gotta be careful of the girls you approach because some of us are pretty well educated on pua's. ;-).

If you shortened your opener, and just ended with "wanted to say hi" it would have left more an open vibe, and the conversation could have carried on.

When you tack on, "Could I grab your number" it becomes much more of a yes or no situation where she can only judge you based on your looks.

Just a minor detail, but I feel like it could make a big difference in future approaches. Great job on actually doing the direct approach though. Fuck, I've yet to do it myself.

On the approach, one of the most fundamental rules taught in The Game (yes it's well-known but that certainly doesn't mean it's not a good book) is to never approach from behind, try to come in from the front at an angle. That's hard to do in the situation you were in but that can easily contribute to it. Also more importantly, as anonymousthrowaway96 said, you probably went for the # close too quickly. Put yourself in her shoes for a second, would you give your number out to an older guy who introduces himself and asks for your number directly after? Even if you were attracted? Get some conversation in there. Regardless, good job on the fact you did a cold approach.

I'm 23 and just had a 18yo begging me to take her number on my metro ride downtown. It's all in the manner you present yourself. You essentially didn't present yourself at all. So she reverted to her initial reaction of older. You can't argue with her, you simply must show her that your presence is intoxicating to her teenage brain.

Definitely agree with the other posters saying you just went for it to early. You hadn't interacted with her at all, so you were still a complete stranger at the point you asked for the number and a future date. That's not a proposition most girls would take up. So she had to make up some reason to turn you down and the (pretty minor) age difference was the first thing that occurred to her.

Just try shooting the shit a bit before trying to number-close/instant date/whatever. Gotta show her you aren't scary before she'll commit to spending any time with you.
