In all seriousness, out of the few who actually acknowledge that misandry is a real thing, feminists insist that "feminism helps men too" and men's issues are being worked on. They also insist that, in spite of the evidence to the contrary on television, in journalism circles and mainstream feminist organisations (such as NOW), feminists who don't support men's issues are a minority.

I'm sure there are some that do. It's not like the MRA movement isn't clean of misogynists.

But strangely, I hear a lot more dissent towards misogynists on the MRA side than misandrists on the feminist side.

This is a strawman argument.

Some feminists call out misandry within their own movement, and many let it slide.

Some MRAs call out misogyny in within their own movement, and many let it slide.

In all movements there are bigoted people, and other people with differing opinions on what constitutes bigotry.

So to answer your question, no, most feminists don't really hate men (but some do) - just as most MRAs don't really hate women (but, believe it, some do).

The basic idea in feminism is that the world is divided into two groups; namely, the oppressors and the oppressed. The object is to reverse the roles. Women will be the oppressors. If you understand this, misandry is a virtue. Feminism has never been about equality. It is about power.

Feminist defend and promote the misandrist in their movement. I'm starting to think these feminist claiming good intentions are really just interested in pacifying the opposition. The virulent hate throughout the movement is all too apparent. This isn't wilful ignorance, it's refusal to acknowledge reality. They talk about not seeing one's 'privilege' but they don't see their own hate. We might have to go from simply educating to a literal fight for our dignity as human beings with people who view male voices that don't echo their sentiments as inherently evil.

Feminism is all about hating men. Some are just more honest about it than others.

Name me one feminist "issue" that isn't all about attacking men. They even manage to do it with things that aren't about men at all like for instance with abortion by trying to characterize it as an issue of "men trying to control women's bodies" even though polls say that just as many women who are against it as men. Or what about when they say shit like "Homophobia is the fear that gay men will treat you the way you treat women." It's ridiculous how they can just find a way to turn anything into an attack on men.

Feminists hate men.

Hate movements aren't uniform though. Especially when they are popular they contain many people who don't think of themselves as involved with hate. The KKK was hailed as a good progressive christian group in it's heyday. "All the best people were in the Klan"

Similarly if Nazism had been limited to people who were monsters it would not have got very far in Germany.

For many rank and file members they just choose to not think too much about the prejudices of the movement but when you confront them they will be defensive of the movement, instead of apologetic for it's actions. if you ask a "nice" feminist about the anti-male hate they have a choice of reaction.

1 condemn the sexism and commit to eradicating it
2 defend or justify it or claim it is minimal

They all choose (2). Ultimately of course (1) is not something you can live with because if you really do try to oppose the prejudices of such a movement from the inside you'll quickly find yourself on the outside, either by expulsion, or choice or a bit of both.

I consider myself a feminist and I like men very much. I am not a particularly active or vocal feminist, so my way of expressing disapproval for misandry is to down vote, occasionally post a comment explaining why I disagree, or stop providing page views (good riddance Jezebel). As with any social movement, the extremists are likely to be the most vocal and receive the most attention. I classify myself as a feminist because it's a blanket term for equal rights. It isn't a great name for it, but it gets the point across. I do personally focus on issues of female inequality, mostly because I have 2 daughters. However, I also care deeply about men's rights issues, particularly divorce/custody injustices and the way boys are treated for "feminine" behaviors.

I think that in America, the "patriarchy" theory stems from the reality of who holds most of the power. It's a fact that men hold more positions of power than women, and have throughout history. So while there are a many legitimate policy issues related to men's rights, these problems were largely created by the men who create policy and enforce laws. The reason I currently feel most strongly about women's issues is because women still hold far less than half of the decision making power in America. To me, that is the most urgent issue. I think if the situation was reversed, it would be reasonable for men to feel the same way (imagine if a man had never been president, or was officially not allowed to be the pope). I happen to believe that as the power balances out, society as a whole will benefit, not just women. The issue I feel most strongly about is access to contraception, something that would be much less of an issue if women had always held equal power. "Keep your legs closed"-style arguments still being used as a legitimate political argument against birth control access is completely nuts, and I think stems from that "patriarchal" society more than any other issue.

Not sure how well I'm explaining myself. I know I'm babbling, but I do want to start being more involved in issues of gender inequality overall because it shouldn't just be the assholes who speak out. I don't believe women's rights and men's rights are opposing forces.

I think a lot of them just minimize that element within feminism.
There are also so many men haters with a public voice because it matches the feminist narrative and the mentality of their supporters.
A lot of them don't see themselves as men haters because they have male friends, regardless of what they say about them behind their backs.
Feminism revolves around men rather than women, specifically using the male as the default negative so they can be more of a victim in the public eye, which is a position of power for them. They manipulate males with "old world" mentalities and they demand their protection while at the same time demonising their way of life.
It's a movement whose majority is made up by middle class white girls in education, most of whom have never worked a day in their life other than to throw a cake sale where they charge people different prices based upon their gender and race.

I miss anything?

While I think you have a good point, being that the MRM is a common victim of generalizations, and just as a general rule for accusatory statements, it would be better to try to state this in a way which is not quite as much of a blanket statement.

There are certainly women who are feminists and yet do not ascribe to any of the misandry sometimes associated with it and indeed fight for the rights of men and against misandry.

That being said, you do have a good point, and it is a good question for further discussion, and one that I'm certainly not in a place to give an expert opinion on, but I'd love to hear any responses that others have.

To answer truthfully, I do not know why either group allows these individuals to act in the way that they do.

Most often, we do. Feminism isn't a club with elected leaders - we are people who believe that patriarchal values have damaged our society to the detriment of all (men AND women). Those who are active on the internet (and not just being crazy tumblr users) generally spend a lot of time challenging our own conceptions of things, as isolating and removing deeply seated beliefs based on a flawed culture is a long process.

A lot of ACTUAL feminists do. I know several feminists that are really cool people and call out misandry/SJW.
