It's being provided to adolescents and adults who are capable of making the decision, they can do what they want with their bodies.

The Gates Foundation is one of the most effective charities in the world, largely because do an immense amount of research into what problems to focus on, and research the most effective ways to solve those problems, rather than just throwing money at them in order to feel warm and fuzzy inside.

I have an immense amount of confidence that they have some evidence-based reason for going ahead with this plan, i would just like to see what it is exactly that they are going on.

Voluntary being the key aspect of this approach.

Besides what research says whether or not it reduces the chance of catching or spreading HIV. The way I see it is, the lack of proper hygiene and easily accessible water means that it will save a lot of these men and adolescent boys trouble with infections.

The studies [...] claiming to show a benefit of circumcision in reducing female-to-male heterosexual transmission of HIV, are a lot less bulletproof than their proponents make out; and any real-world roll-out of their procedures would be very difficult to achieve safely and effectively. One possible outcome is that HIV infections would actually increase—both through the circumcision surgeries themselves performed in unsanitary conditions, and through the mechanism of risk compensation and other complicating factors of real life. The “circumcision solution” is no solution at all. It is a misdirection of resources and may be a threat to public health.

I feel it would just be cheaper to spend the fifty million on condoms or sex education programs. Instead, we get this pity-the-black-people sentiment and offer a largely useless and harmful procedure to a largely uninformed culture. While we're at it, why not donate millions to help these African countries import some narcotics for the people there to voluntarily consume. Never mind that they're unaware of the risks associated, they're doing it voluntarily.

Does it seriously cost $76.92 to circumcise someone in Africa?

How many minutes does a circumcision take and what tools does it need that it costs $77 freakin dollars?

This is just racist. On any other continent, men would be given instruction on how to keep themselves and their partners safe from HIV and other STDs. Only in Africa do they say these men are so stupid we have to cut pieces off them.

Remember, that Bill Gates is almost 90% certain to have been genitaly mutilated by his parents, as when he was born, some 90% male babies suffered MGM.

Not only does it push the male circumcision will prevent HIV agenda; but it also pushes male circumcision as:

A rite of passage: eg. boys need to be sexually mutilated to become "men".

Marker of religious identity: eg. it's OK to sexually mutilate your little boy to forever brand him as a member of a given religion.

Personal health and hygiene: eg. black african men are dirty and don't wash.

And of course these black african men are never told about the multiple functions of the foreskin.

Are they given a choice or are the forced?

I'm circumcised and although I wk t make my kids do it, I'm glad I was. Doesn't it lower risk of HPV transfer?
