Shouldn't men be celebrating this? Could you guys imagine this scenario reversed? Really handsome, good natured dude is captured by an ugly hag woman-beast. Guy falls for ugly hag beast. Realistically, would this movie ever be made by Disney or Hollywood?

I'm not trying to incite any anger, just generally curious what your opinions are.

I laugh so hard when people make these kind of statements about this movie. The "beast" is fucking good looking in the movie. They could have made him look ugly, but guess what, no one, especially girls, would like the movie if he was.

A few weeks ago I finally cut my long hair and it's now at a normal length and I can tell you that the looks I've gotten have changed. So I used to have long bleach-blond hair and walking through the halls at high school I didn't get a lot of smiles and looks. Now all I have to do is look someone in the face/eyes and they'll smile at me. Or the worst was being called a girl. There's nothing wrong with women but being called something you aren't isn't something anyone likes. And the worst part was the clothes I wore are obviously men type clothes. I've very skinny so you can always see that my shirts are flat. I once was given the excuse that it was because some girls have smaller breasts. I know a few girls with smaller breasts and side-by-side you can tell that they have something there.

...I seem to recall there was a study done on OkCupid that found their female users rated 80% of men as "below average" in looks (which if nothing else is a statistical impossibility.) So, if that's the case, it tells me it's not men who care more about looks.

In my experience, this has always been the complete opposite. Any women, no matter how unattractive she is, still has an easier time to find men to date or just have sex with. Not only that but it would also be a lot easier for an "unattractive woman" to gain the attributes that are socially considered to be attractive. Overweight women can certainly lose the weight if they just make an effort to. Women with no curves or small breasts can find plenty of ways to hide that or deceive others. Women with bad skin/traits can wear makeup, style or accessorize. Worse comes to worse, there is an entire industry devoted to the more extreme surgeries(not something that I endorse but they certainly have that option). Women with bad hygiene can fall back on perfumes and toiletries. When it comes to everything else or personality, people are far more lenient of women's behaviors and will excuse just about everything(especially in a romantic setting).

Men, on the other hand, have it much harder when it comes to either finding sexual partners or love(even if they are average or good looking). Men are not only judged by their appearances but will be judged with extreme prejudice(women tend to be a lot harsher with their judging of men than the other way around). Men who fail to meet these social expectations of masculinity often will find themselves being ridiculed, vilified(creep shaming), dehumanized(often having their sexuality dismissed entirely) and/or taken advantage of. Becoming attractive for men physically is also significantly harder. Not tall enough? nothing you can do about that. Not muscular enough? Gaining muscle tone is significantly harder/intensive and more expensive than losing weight. Not attractive? Make up isn't really an option. Not confident? Good luck ever being taken seriously.

Look at any dating site, the data doesn't lie. Not only do women have it significantly easier than men but they are far more critical of men(both of their appearances and of their approaches). And, as far as beauty and the beast in concerned, that beast was far from being "unattractive". As far as non-human creatures go, he was still depicted as a tall, fierce, beautiful and strong "monster". He was also a "prince" and "rich" and the fact that he was really a physically beautiful man(who happened to be cursed) was never really in doubt. Realistically, if that man had turned back to a human form that was "unattractive", the story probably would not have ever ended on a happy note(she would have gone back to find Gaston). If anything, really, this movie encourages that sense of entitlement to a prince charming and those unrealistic expectations that are put on men(not just in the fact that women should never settle for anything less than a rich, powerful, confident, tall, dark and handsome prince charming but that he should also drop everything to take care of them and provide for their every single whim) or that women should be entitled to being shallow/superficial, simply because they are women.

Also I see so many versions of this, that I don't think anybody knows what the point to that movie was - if it had one. I'm not so sure myself anymore. All the disney princesses are really skewed when you think about it though.

From the Jean Cocteau film to the television show with Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman; the beast has always been portrayed as a handsome and noble creature.

The beast looks pretty healthy though. A woman with a great body, but a little mangled face is still a pretty good looking woman. There are some points deducted, but still pretty good.

A member of a particular forum I was on conducted a study in which he created a fake POF profile with the pictures of a VERY physically unattractive woman. I mean... VERY VERY VERY physically unattractive. Immediately after creating his account he received a couple messages from men (and not only unattractive men). He played around and asked them all sorts of questions involving inserting objects into their anus/giving her money/etc and many of these men agreed to these acts in an attempt to have sex with her. It was appauling and really showcased how stupid these feminists are for pretending like women need to have 'good looks' to attain most things now. The only requirement it seems is having a vagina for these privileges.
