You know, I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't see having sex with consenting teenagers as a serious problem.

The bigotry is not that women aren't punished harshly enough when they do it, it's that men are punished too harshly.

Now, if someone is actually having sex with children, or blackmailing or forcing teenagers to have sex, that's a different story. That ain't so cool.

Now, obviously, this person is mentally unstable, fails to show good judgement, and needs to be fired for that consideration alone. A slap on the wrist and some treatment probably wouldn't go amiss, either. But I don't see how throwing away the key would really help men any.

"But ", you might ask, " what about the teenage boys she harmed?".

Well, I'm not sure she harmed them. And before you accuse me of having a double standard, I would say the same thing about some consenting teenage girls. Again, I hate double standards, but I disagree about what the single standard needs to be.

I know that men receive about 3.14 years more prison time on average for equivalent crimes when taking all crimes into account, but does anyone know the average difference in jail time for men and women convicted of sex crimes against children?

Also, does anyone know if this woman has been placed on a sex offenders register?

Just because feminists are hypocritical opportunists, that doesn't mean we should do the same. Seriously, ask yourself and answer honestly: If you were a 15-year old teenager, would you mind being blown by your (sufficiently attractive) female teacher? I certainly wouldn't. They didn't even have to stick it in. Just... free BJs. That's a dream come true.

Then again, I also think if a girl of that age has an affair with her teacher, she usually knows exactly what she's doing and she might very well be genuinely attracted to the teacher. Happens.

Either way, of course it's unprofessional behavior on the teacher's side because sex doesn't belong in their job, where they're supposed to treat the students neutrally. So it should be punished to a fair degree. But it shouldn't be automatically treated as "rape" or "abuse" as long as that isn't explicitly the case. The government shouldn't be some kind of "moral authority" that punishes you based on irrational understandings of right and wrong, even when nobody is actually harmed.

This kind of changes things. People that are bipolar can sometimes act without thinking. I still wonder that if she were a "Mr. Shepherd" would they have been just as lenient.

By my guess, on average, a male student engaging in sexual acts with an older female teacher is far less likely to result in:

shunning by peers
psychological trauma

Much more likely to have been:

a wholeheartedly consensual act, not requiring psychological coercion

To be honest, if I'm a juror able to decide punishment, these are the preconceived notions I start with. Unless I hear otherwise in testimony given on behalf of the victim, I'm probably going to go a little easier on the female teacher for "abusing" a teenage male student with blowjobs.

Use your brain she'll never be able to teach again.. Even if the prison sentence seems light its not like the courts haven't been against womyn for centuries. You complain about double standards, how do you think career womyn feel?
