Being a people pleaser is a major tenant of being a pickme. Men will only love the 50/50, sex supply, and maid service, not you as a person.

“In spite of everything, women are still more willing to look for humanity in the incels than they are in us.” Yup, much to women’s detriment.

Legitimate question: I see women (never men) on my social media commenting on this phenom, as if it’s brand new and very niche and they’re like “What is this thing?”, when I feel like I encounter it (even when I was partnered) all the time for decades now....how is this social dynamic slipping under the radar by them? Most of them aren’t exceptionally attractive, but do average women not get harassed on the street? Do they not understand that to strangers who are men, they are still largely viewed as a collection of parts that is either fuckable or not?

Granted, it is more apparent when you are single or just not next to a man 24:7, but surely partnered women (that’s most of my friends) are not shielded from this?

I guess my overarching question is, which women are moving through the world untouched by misogyny...and how?

[–]bombas-FDS Newbie 71 points72 points73 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think it’s possible to know and experience the kind of everyday sexism and misogyny perpetrated by successful-to-normal men: inappropriate bosses at work, sexist comments from frat boys in college, being treated like shit by fboys on dating apps, gross comments from douchebags in a bar, catcalling from losers on the street…

…without ever encountering the openly-horrific, ugly, pathetic hate that incels spew online. You mostly have to be online and aware of those spaces to see men openly admitting to opinions like “we should enslave and rape all women at 16.”

[–]discoveringlibertyFDS Newbie 44 points45 points46 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Agreed, I had no idea the extent of societal misogny until I found FDS and started seeing screenshots from the manosphere and doing my own research into things discussed here. It is kept out of mainstream media, because society doesn't care about violence against women and because society is always gaslighting women into thinking that they don't really have it that bad.

[–]VmchikFDS Disciple[S] 126 points127 points128 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wonder the same too and sometimes think a lot of women gaslight themselves into thinking they don’t see most misogyny. It’s very exhausting to be aware of how misogynistic the world is and you really need thick skin. I think they’d rather see these men as an individual case than a a cultural theme. I’m very aware of this ideology because I’m black and many nonblack and sometimes black men like to remind black women that we are undesired because of racist hierarchies. These hierarchies are identical to what incels use to categorize Beckys, Stacys and normies. I’ll never be seen as a Stacy in their eyes because whiteness is the ultimate power. Incelhood and white supremacy are very closely linked and are basically a circle in a Venn diagram.

PickMes feed into the confirmation bias that sexist men already hold: “I don’t know what SHE’S talking about… iiiiii don’t deal with sexism.” 🙄

Maybe I worded it unclearly. The women I know condemn it with an air of disgust, but they genuinely act as if they had 0 idea that this was a thing.

Meanwhile, I’m seeing it as even more than just this well-known-to-me one thing relegated to an easily isolated bunch...but more like an epicenter, and the misogyny radiating outward, at varying degrees.

I’ve thought this through more and have a theory (though I don’t know that I’m right!). Truth be told, middle aged women, unless they look young, or are outspoken, generally get left alone. Not that they aren’t still being objectified, but I think they just have a rep for tolerating less shit and are less worth the bother. But it still happens; I just recalled an attractive, 40ish friend of mine did mention being cat called recently and she just laughed it off...I think the prior commenter had it right: in the case of these women, they don’t deny misogyny and they do condemn it, but like to think that it doesn’t interfere with their carefully crafted bubbles too much, and that they aren’t constantly being perceived as things.

To recognize this, to have the curtain pulled back, to have so many interactions reframed where you thought you were being valued as a human, to have so much uncertainty as to what you can even do about the males that are already grown, that maybe the only reason men are in charge is because they can throw shit harder, that truly collectively tapping into our power (which we could do in the near future, with modern tech there to equalize men’s physical advantages) would cause an enormous backlash and loss, and the worst musing of all- “If my man wasn’t getting sex, is that what he’d become?”....it’s traumatizing.

If you deny the existence of misogyny, yes, total pick-me. But I can’t call someone that for being unable to fully comprehend the magnitude of the problem, and handle that load. I can barely handle it, having not found a therapist who can adequately address this issue. I’m grateful for this community, or I think I would’ve stuck my own head in the sand to a degree to numb the pain.

They ignore it, and have been trained to overlook it or rationalize it. The average woman, ignorant of feminist concepts, thinks there is no power imbalance

I wonder if incels actually value being able to get with a woman that'd open her legs to 5 billion other men because...well. She has no standards, so, she'd literally say yes to any man.

It's really bizarre seeing how they cannibalize themselves with their inability to acknowledge this or how they would prefer some sort of value or weight being there. I doubt all of them just want sex.

[–]OrangeCatsAreNiceFDS Newbie 25 points26 points27 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thats exactly it, they do not feel better after being with prostitutes. They actually have such an obsession with their virginity that they consider themselves virgins if they have slept with a sex worker, because it doesnt "count".

If you lurk in their spaces you quickly realize they actually believe other man are approached/have sex with no effort at all, just because they were born more attractive, wich obviously isnt true at all.

[–]Peak_TreeFDS Newbie 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No. In fact they hate prostitutes and I'm inclined to think they would be (already are?) extremely resentful and dangerous johns.

I think this article is a good example of why fds boundaries are so important and why liberal feminism is so damaging. I was reading through it thinking "I guess this is a decent if basic intro to incels, but why so much libfem ideology spilling out the seams?" Then I saw the author's name and it triggered a memory. There was a whole scandal where it turned out her parents were human traffickers and she just made excuses for them and lied about it. https://historicly.substack.com/p/trick-mirror-a-reflection-on-mass This is no reflection on you, OP, as I don't expect you to research the past of every person who writes a post you find useful... it's just more of a general thought exercise to me, how someone who buys so thoroughly into choice feminism and feel good clap-trap as Jia is not trustworthy and can't really attack misogyny, due to having bought so many lies before they even try to fight. I like how FDS challenges power structures so much more than liberal feminism ever has.

[–]VmchikFDS Disciple[S] 69 points70 points71 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh wow I didn’t know that about her and that’s terrible. And while I liked the article I did feel like her talking points were a bit watered down, especially towards the end when talking about subsidizing sex. But yeah FDS does bring about challenging conversations which makes it a good community.

[–]questionsaboutrel521FDS Apprentice 57 points58 points59 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No wonder she was advocating for legalizing sex work. She is profiting off of it.

[–]bombas-FDS Newbie 27 points28 points29 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As FDS women we know too well that hatred of women is a powerful force and that anyone who dares to be a feminist in public is going to get attacked.

So I genuinely believe it’s more complicated than that— and it’s well know that this scandal about her family was dug up and popularized by people who hate Jia for being a feminist (aka Reddit, Twitter.)

I’ve read both that blog post you linked and Jia’s side of the story (https://jia.blog/listen-i-wanted-quar-gossip-too) and I’ll never know how her parent’s company really operated or what their motivations were.

However I am sure that the person who wrote that really, really hates Jia. There are plenty of clues. I also am sure that Jia believes her own parents are innocent. Whether she’s right, I can’t say.

I passionately disagree with Jia about sex work & many of her other “lib fem” stances, but I also think it’s clear she’s a woman who’s been targeted for being pro-woman. I don’t like that, no matter who it happens to.

I can hate her positions on women’s issues without getting into her family background, basically.

[–]SeaNegotiation8FDS Apprentice 17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s annoying to read an article that contradicts itself so much on the topic of sex work.

Hateful, misogynistic men are not entitled to sex. Period. They’re not entitled to sex for free, and they’re not entitled to sex for money. Why is that so hard for LibFem journalists to understand?

It takes a hefty amount of classism for this author to think it’s acceptable to send these hateful monsters to a sex worker who will have to absorb their abuse just so more privileged women won’t have to.

Then there’s this little gem: “Women, and L.G.B.T.Q. people, are the activists trying to make sex work legal and safe, to establish alternative arrangements of power and exchange in the sexual market.”

Then, in the very next sentence: “We can’t redistribute women’s bodies as if they are a natural resource; they are the bodies we live in.”

But…sex work literally is treating women’s bodies like a natural resource. And the only way to keep them safe is to keep homicidal misogynists away from them.

Sex workers are humans, and no human should have the likes of Elliot Rodgers or his psychotic disciples foisted on them because no other woman will sleep with them.

Sorry. End rant. Incels should perish…in prison, not in the arms of a sex worker.

[–]SavvyPantherFDS Newbie 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Good article & good on her for drawing wider attention to the disgusting nature of the incel community. I do feel like there’s some cognitive dissonance between “you can’t redistribute sex because we aren’t objects” and “fight to legalize sex work and let men just pay for women’s bodies even though those women would never freely have sex with these men” tho

There’s also a podcast episode that you might like on incels (and why people seem so willing to forgive or relate to them) called “The End of Empathy” on Invisibilla by NPR

[–]Peak_TreeFDS Newbie 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

See how one of the articles she links is literally titled "the redistribution of sex"? Just a few days back I wrote a comment here on FDS saying that goverments will first try to assign us to incels than to admit the problem...and It seems I'm not the only one that thinks it is a potential future for us.

[–]RenrenchiFDS Newbie 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If that happens I'm gonna go full Rambo on the government.
