Depending on the source (assuming you count forced female envelopment), it's anywhere from about 50% to 60%. So men aren't anywhere close to being "the vast majority" of rapists.

You can actually cherry pick stats from the CDC to put it at 45%. I think 2012 had more female rapists than male rapists, for example.

My personal speculation is that most strangers in the bush type rapists are in fact men, it's just that type of rapist is incredibly rare to begin with. Most modern rape stats include things like date rape, coercive rape, and things like that. Which are legitimate forms of rape. It's just not where people's minds go to when you talk about rape. They assume you need a big strong man to force someone down and that's just not how 99% of rapes happen (in fact many men, around 30%, are forced using the threat of a false rape accusation... "have sex with me or I'll tell people you raped me"). So it's a lot easier to see how women can coerce, manipulate, and take advantage of men using social guile just like men can the other way around.

At least in the UK, yes by definition. Rape, as defined by the Sexual Offenses Act 2003, requires the following criteria to be met

(1)A person (A) commits an offence if—

(a)he intentionally penetrates the vagina, anus or mouth of another person (B) with his penis,

(b)B does not consent to the penetration, and

(c)A does not reasonably believe that B consents.

So, rape can only be committed by penetration with a penis, which applies exclusively to most men and some transwomen.

Women rape men at almost equal rate as men but to exclude this from statistics, definition of rape was made gendered so only women can be victims and men be the perpetrator.

This is why you see 99% of rapes are done by men. It's like saying 99% of car accidents are happen with red cars if you define car accidents only if it's a red car involved.

Yes and no. Since our criminality data comes from what is reported to the police. It is safe to assume that 1. A good proportion of crimes are not reported and 2. Some demographics may report more than others.

When we see how the laws regarding rape are written, it is safe to assume that women report way more than men.

There's another way of gathering data on crimes : asking people if they committed or were victims of a crime or a situation that could be considered as such (reported or not).

A lot of studies asked men and women questions structured like this : Did you go through a situation were you felt like your consent was overlooked by the other person in the last year. Either because you clearly stated that you were not interested or were forced by some means to comply (drugs, manipulation, physical force).

All studies who use gender neutral terms like what I have written arrive at the same results. Men and women both gets their consent broken at more or less the same rate.

So no, despite what feminists will say, men are not inherently more prone to rape than women. There's also an argument to be made about how violence, and sexual violence, is way more tolerated when women are the perpetrators.

In that case it would be a semantic discussion without practical relevance though, unless you consider forced sex on men to be somehow more acceptable, regardless of the term used to describe it. If you are talking about unconsensual sex or sex equivalents, then no.

Using the cdc source it is only given lifelong data, which has proven itself inaccurate in describing current day victinization vs. 12 month prevalence numbers, and reports about 80% female perps for rape+mtp on men. Assuming equal victimization and the aforementioned perpetrator percentages we would see 41% of perps being women - and that's without a proper made to penetrate definition, without factoring in men's higher usage of denial as a coping method and higher reluctance to disclose genital aspects of assaults and without proper current-day perp numbers.

This is a totally valid question to ask, so feel free to ignore my comment if it seems a bit apropos of nothing. But does anyone else feel like we shouldn't be focusing on proving that not all rapes are done by men? 100% of rapes could be done by men but it would still be wrong to have misandrist attitudes because of that.

Vast majority? No, but majority, as far as we know yes. Though as we expand the definition of rape to include male victimization (made to penetrate) more and more female sexual aggression/assault is coming up to the forefront and it could be the case that women have always been assaulting men but we’ve ignored it.

There's no way to be sure based on the current stats. In all likelihood men account for the majority of rapists, but not by nearly as high a margin as people assume.

The reason the stats are messed up is because they essentially can go by two sources, police reports or anonymous polling, both of which result in underreporting of female perpetrators.

Police reports because in many countries female rapists are simply not considered rapists under law and in the countries where they are the vast majority of cases of female rapists (when they're even reported in the first place, which they're less likely to be) are thrown out because of court bias.

Anonymous polling is more accurate, but still not perfect. Mostly because the main target of female rapists, male victims, are taught from day 1 that they don't get to think of themselves as "real victims", and any sexual advance made by a woman must be accepted or they're not a "real man". So many male survivors will not think of themselves as rape victims. And female victims of female perpetrators deal with the same stigma to a lesser extent, so they'll likely underreport too.
