It's become a bit of a buzzword to avoid having to explain "overly aggressive political idealogues" over and over again. Inaccuracies in it actually being related to "social justice" happened similarly to how people use "literally" in every second sentence.

Why are LGBT considered SJWs?

They aren't. Forcing LGBT characters to be over-represented on screen is the SJW act, not an individual LGBT character in a show.

To me SJW isn’t about the beliefs they hold as much as the performative, self aggrandising way they go about expressing these beliefs, trying to draw attention to themselves rather than the cause or belief they are advocating for.

Most Transwomen on twitter wrongly assume that TERFs are misogynists, while TERFs are actually driven by misandry. Some transwomen even have misandry in common with TERFs.

Now SJW has always been a bad term if used to denote a negative thing. "Social justice warrior" just doesn't sound that much like a bad thing, and doesn't fit these anti-social, anti-rule-of-law types that "SJW" tend to be.

The reason why some shows might be called SJW because of LGBT, women or minority people in it has to do with the fact that many, many shows have had their character replaced or shoehorned into one of those category just to tick the right "representation" boxes while sacrificing the quality of the show to do so. It's the prioritizing of the ideology over quality that pissed people off. You now have the "female reboot" of pretty much everything, and often to desastrous results. SJWs can't tolerate people from those categories facing any form of hardship, which results in terrible plots, overpowered character facing no challenges, and basically boring stories where nothing of consequence happen, because for something of consequence to happen, there has to be some amount of risk and strife, which is forbidden. Alternatively, you have preachy moments, where you are being lectured on the right ideology to have in a patronizing way, or moments where the whole punchline is "straight white men are evil, right?".

And humans are flawed pattern recognition machines. Most of the public has now been trained to identify that if a show has one or more female, LGBT or minority ethnic main characters, then the show is going to be bad, and preaching SJW propaganda

And to be fair, very often, it can be confirmed, with a limited number of exceptions. Like very often, SJW shit result in the exact opposite of what they claim they want.

This is part of the reactionary right-wing pipeline that we need to watch out for whenever we criticize elements of the left. When people see you engaging with a topic that they disagree with, like social justice or feminism or anti-white bigotry (to the extent that it exists), people who are enemies of progressivism in general will be happy to talk to you about how they also have a problem with these things, but then slowly mix in their own right-wing ideas and expand the terms to include everything they disagree with. This is a very effective psychological tactic.

If I were to try to define what constitutes a 'social justice warrior', it would probably be 'someone who champions the ideology of social justice, that being that we need to treat people in a manner in opposition to their apparent privilege or oppression, and who champions that ideology in a very aggressive and uncompromising way.'

But it's in the interest of someone who dislikes progressivism to paint all progressivism as SJW, because SJW has an animus against it and it serves them to direct that animus at their other political enemies.

I think you're right in your definition of SJW.

My definition is those who force id politics into everything, and cannot separate an individual from their group. Additionally, I think they give or take extra weight from a statement based on the speaker/writers group, such as straight white male or gay POC female.

I think the SJW part of the walking dead and other shows is when statistically marginal communities are included in ever show, and extremized by the villain being white male and the hero being several minorities included together. Again, the extremized version is only really an issue when it happens over a vast majority of entertainment.

But to your point over transwomen and biological women, I think that comes from sports mostly, with a bit of victimhood comparison. Trans women that enter a sport almost always jump to the top of the leaderboard due the hormones they had before transitioning being the same performance enhancing drugs biological women cannot take. I agree there should be some changes in qualification sports to prevent this. But for the inclusion of trans women into women issues, idk, I'm not in either group.

I generally dislike id politics, but recognize there are issues I wouldn't know about first hand. My alternative to this is actually looking at things that more people could relate with, such as unionizing, health care, monopolies, etc, which literally like everyone (minus the corps/execs) would benefit from.

Most MRAs probably count as SJWs.

At least when it comes to the "dictionary definition". Meaning being concerned with social justice in society.

Men face many injustices in society so anyone who takes up for those issues is basically an SJW.

How much that matches up with reality is a different question (many SJWs are pretty racist and sexist). But I feel like we can try to reclaim that term for the men's movement.

A few years ago, SJWs made an effort to appropriate the phrase. Remember the memes about Social Justice Wizards, Social Justice Druids, etc.?

That was around when the term was first really being exposed to most Progressives. It had the affect of diluting the term a bit in the public sphere.

Ideally your definition is correct, I'm 100% with you on that.

But here's an idea I'm not sure about, so I'll throw it out and see what y'all think, kinda just brainstorming. It might be worth keeping in mind that the term "SJW" was probably coined in majority by people who are racist and/or sexist. It's a lot like how people who scream "misogyny!" all the time tend to be misandrist, the only difference being this former group of words is gendered.

Regardless, I prefer to avoid using umbrella terms as a response to umbrella terms, at least in discussions where both sides of an issue are involved.

Well, as you discovered yourself SJW is a word used by hate groups. It's definition is just "people who don't agree with my traditional views" without going into details what views that might be. And it's not like progressive side doesn't throw such heavy words around, like fascist for example. You will be much happier if you stop watching hate videos as entertainment.
