The majority of men in the USA work longer hours, take high risk jobs, take less sick/vacation leave. He can't say that men and women have always been equal though, think of the Greeks, who basically trapped women at home (and they could never get out) or Romans, who were a liiittle bit less oppressive, or history up until the 1700, when women could basically be sold as wives to form alliances. Or even now, in a lot of families still remains the idea of the woman being the submissive element of the family, the one that stays home making meals, cleaning and taking care of children. This does not happen to men. Many things happen to men and women alike, but these don't.

Men do have many other issues, like the horrible double standard in cases of rape, where a woman is instantly believed while a man is often thought of as a liar. Or like the problems of the LGBT+ community, which affect both men and women. But the existence of feminism should not mean that men can't fight for change too.

I came to say that HAH fuck no, I know a good deal of men who have been sexually assaulted, but they don't report it because the women around them laugh at them along with the guys or the women say "but did you REALLY? was it really so bad? are you SURE you didn't like it? While I am feminist (ie ACTUAL feminism, I hit a man he can hit me back, man-spreading exists because of sweaty balls so leave them alone or better yet feel free to do it too his knee isn't going to rape you, I mean I do it to the extent I'm in a comfortable position, all the other guys are knee to knee on the bus, stop whining and uncross your legs. If a woman wants to do a "mans" job she must do equal work, (IE a firefighter, she HAS to be able to pass the mens fitness test, I mean for fucks sake I don't want some 150lb woman trying to kick down my dead-bolted house door if I'm cooking alive) I have no idea how many "feminists" I've worked with that think taking out the trash is a mans job because "whaa it's heavy" even though they're perfectly capable, My own boss refused to plow the 20 space parking lot when all of our morning customers were senior citizens "because it's a MANS job, the guy coming in, in 3 hours can do it" so I went out there and shoveled it BY HAND (I couldn't drive) so the 8 inches of snow didn't kill our frail 90 year old early birds. If I, a woman, could shovel it by hand she could have driven the fucking truck for 5 minutes)

Women in the past were held as property and while that sucks, there was an AWFUL lot more rape back then, an awful lot more murder, assaults etc, a woman alone was in a TON of danger, I've met MAYBE 4 women in my LIFE who could take me in a fight and i'm not that strong I just sparred some for a few years with my BFF (a dude) and he still ALWAYS had to go easy on me. While socially that morphed into women not being allowed to leave the house without an escort (rome) or really having any rights because there wasn't a structure in place where a woman could proform the same sort of work required by men in positions of power (IE most presidents were in the military, many had assassination attempts, Roosevelt gave a campaign speech minutes after being SHOT) it also meant they were kept safe and alive. Their lack of ability to preform in war (I mean i'm not confident I could fight a war and I'm taller than like 80% of women) was a major reason they weren't given any power. And yeah women tended the house and kids, why? Because it makes more sense for the one that bleeds every month and is in pain to not travel as much with wild animals around before pads existed. For the only ones that can feed babies to tend to them, and the one with better senses of sight and smell to prepare the questionably harvested and stored food.

Modern society has removed these barriers thanks to modern food, medicine, childcare products etc, and while there is a biased in stations of power such as presidency, that's due to women in general being more passive, maybe it was due to the thousands of years of our various stations in life but women need to evolve mentally more than guys do to suit modern society in my opinion. The reason teenage boys get hurt and do stupid shit more is the same reason they often become CEO'S; They have the will and the "fuck it" attitude to jump in and prove themselves, they aren't shy or passive they don't sit quietly in a corner office for 40 years WAITING for someone to notice their good work, they go to the boss and sit him down to SHOW him then demand a raise/promotion etc, and men who don't do that, surprisingly don't get the promotions, raises or power either.

Women can do that too they just don't, which is why the wage gap exists, less women show interest in the stem fields and more interest in psychology, nursing and teaching, I mean in college every-single-girl in my first math class was in psych or nursing, ALL of them, I was the only STEM female and even I changed my field into animal conservation because while I don't like kids I do love animals and I just knew I wouldn't enjoy engineering I not going to get rich doing it, I'm going to get maimed, envenomated and mauled but not rich. Women aren't less capable they're more passive in many situations which leads to lack of faith when there is a guy spouting a plan even if it isn't as good as the shy girls quietly stated "well maybe we could...". That's why a lot of old time guys are uncomfortable around AOC, she's competent, confident and as headstrong as any man in the room which is shocking to a lot of guys and to be honest, I don't even blame them, women need to step up, stop being afraid of screwing up and dive in. AOC is a strong woman not just because she's well educated but (In part) because she worked in a bar where she was forced to develop a strong and powerful personality. Every female bartender i've met has been a badass that had all the men in town afraid and it's because they have to lay down the law to drunks.

Modern feminism seems to be demanding guys make changes to make room for us when we are the ones who need to act more like leaders and MAKE space like any man would, like any LEADER would. Until a lot of the women around them are strong and confident we can't expect men to be anything BUT surprised or call confident women "bossy" when they're in a position of power. If 99% of the women you meet are meek and passive of COURSE the one that stands out will be labeled as a demanding bitch because it's not -normal- having a confident woman calling the shots like a man, it should be normal, but it isn't and as women have only really had 100 years or so of gaining rights to begin with it's NOT surprising that they aren't running the show in general. Men aren't obligated to roll out a red carpet with pats on the back and praise the entire way for women to do so, if they did, the women who walked it wouldn't have to face the fire and gain the same self confidence and experience men have to when competing with each other in the same way. Weak ceo's, presidents and leaders all stem from entitled boys being handed things (I'm looking at you trump) and their incompetence SHOWS.

Character is built through experience, men have to fight like hell to get noticed in jobs and friend groups, even to get women, EVERYONE loves confidence because it's a sign that you have experience and good sense. Where is the confidence gained by handing something to someone? That isn't confidence it's entitlement.

And yes, sexism exists, but even I've had good luck all around. I've been harassed, cat called and sexually assaulted when I was a shy, passive and frightened girl.

But I've I had a whole town of good old boys treating me as an equal. I tricked a creep into crawling down a cliff face when he spent 40 minutes trying to get me to go somewhere private with him when I was alone and ditched him. Many of the macho men came to me for guidance and assistance, once I had learned to defend myself I could make men back down and I broke up fist fights other men were afraid to get in between and YES I did get hurt from it but I was the only one with the balls to do it and that made the idiots involved listen to me. My fiances conservative father actually has respect for me which personally I didn't think I would get. He doesn't have a ton of respect for women and likes meek passive one's he can tell what to do and how to do things, I see him as the standard for most "privileged white men" which isn't a bad thing, he's a nice guy. He likes and respects me because I'm competent, willing to get dirty (like carpentry instead of hiding inside to drink wine with the girls) I'm straight forward and I not only know what I'm talking about when he starts talking about science (global warming, earth science, things I excel at better than any other subject. Last time we saw him I had to explain why volcanoes were definitely not causing global warming, at least not at this point in earth history) and he not only took in what I had to say, he trusted what I said, when he doesn't even trust his girlfriend to nail in a board correctly. I can explain it in understandable terms and I state what I know with confidence BUT I'm also easy to get along with in general, I don't take being confident as being bitchy, or bossy which IS a mistake I see a lot of women make, they try to capture the aura of a confident man and miss the mark by a mile in the same way a lot of douche bag guys do. (although with the rarity of strong women, there are a lot of women in power who are called bossy and bitchy that aren't, one of my managers was kind of scary and everyone said she was bitchy but she was my favorite boss, she was just a gruff woman)

But I digress that example was one of MANY I have where I, as a woman am taken seriously and have made a place for myself at the "boys" table so to speak and given in many cases even more weight than men because I have a LOT of life experience and they know that from how I handle myself. I see all around me women who aren't taken seriously because they aren't even taking themselves seriously and then whining to me about why no one listens and why men don't go out of their way to stop their discussion so they can say "oh, well i was thinking we could possibly do this idea" over the guys already dividing up the work to get something done. They didn't make room for each other, someone just stepped up. so women as a whole need to step up or fall in line that's literally how society formed.

1:48 - "the basis of our society is competence"?

No.

Earlier he calls out that it's a tiny percentage of society (predominantly men) that is in power. What he doesn't call out is that tiny proportion are in power because of wealth. Wealth =/= competence. And competence is frequently over thrown by varying degrees of unearned, unjustified power in our society. He's implying we're a merit based society and that's largely bullshit. Or at least, it's not a sensible merit system; ie - family connections, club connections, wealth, race, gender (etc) are meritorious? Because they sure as hell are frequently the determining factor in who gets ahead.

He's making an unsubstantiated claim there.

He's also ignoring that our society exists as levels of strata, and in each strata, it is predominantly dominated by men. If you don't want to call it patriarchy i'm fine with that, but to imply that the dominance by men at the varying levels of strata of our society is due to competency is complete and utter horseshit and flies in the face of fact.

He also (off the top of my head) makes a claim about the majority of prisoners are men. This one always pisses me off. The majority of prisoners are BLACK and HISPANIC men. They make up about 35% of the population but they account for more than half of the prison population. After that it's a close race between white men and black/ Hispanic women.

Ugh. This guy is like the Depak Chopra of the men's rights world.
