Yes, I mean even in those marriages that ended in divorce I'm sure a good portion of the loved each other or maybe even still do at one point in time.

Just because you're willing to walk away from somebody doesn't mean that you don't love them. If my wife ever fucked another guy, substance abuse, had some of other transformation where she became hyper-religious or a feminist to the point of incompatibility, or just some crazy shit that I'm not thinking of , it doesn't mean that I don't still love her/vice versa or that the love was never there, it just means that our time together as a couple is just finished.

Now my marriage is not a legal one , and I would never advocate for a guy to get legally married , just too much risk involved, outside of having children I don't think there is and good enough reason to get legally married, especially if you're a guy who has his shit together.

It exists when you marry someone you love who loves you back. I know many people like to say oh it’s temporary, it will get ruined, blah blah. In the same way we are born, we eventually die. Does that mean we were never alive? Does that mean life doesn’t exist? No. It just means nothing lasts forever and we should grow to appreciate what we have while we have it and accept the impermanence of life and love.

It's not only the divorce rates you need to worry about.

Far worse, is the misery, loneliness and mental and emotional strain of being in a situation that makes you less happy than you could be: an unsatisfying relationship.

The overwhelming majority of marriages end in divorce or an unhappy relationship. Very, very few allow men to develop themselves emotionally, intellectually and spiritually more than they could without getting married.

Of course. Most of the people in my life are that way. The number of divorces I know I can count on one hand and and even then almost all of them got remarried. I was at a lovely wedding the other just the other weekend. Fall weddings are beautiful.

Divorce rates are lower for education and employed people, but if you aren't comfortable with taking the risks, you shouldn't.

Looking at the American divorce rate and normalization of infidelity,unstable relationships,number of single mothers & deadbeat fathers,commitment phobia;it definitely doesn't exist in America.

Most other countries don't have this high rate of divorce and infidelity.

If your idea of "love" is that it's supposed to be unconditional, then love only exists from parent to child.

I suppose it is a question of semantics.

I'm fine with using the word "love" in the romantic sense, but it's important to then keep in mind that it's the kind of love that is rife with conditions.

The men here who worry about being divorced rape etc do so because they know that they don't have what it takes to be able to build a life with another person.

If the only reason you can see why you should get married is for sex, you should not consider marriage. Any marriage based on what you get as an individual instead of what you gain as a couple will not succeed.

I personally wonder if marriage should exist, but I do think love can and does, it's obviously quite possible to love the same person until death and beyond.

I simply don't believe that it's possible to legislate affection or honour and wonder if it's desirable to attempt to.

Yes. I saw a video on tik tok about of someone asking a couple who has been happily married for 50 years what it takes to sustain a happy marriage and the woman is, “You have to be a little deaf, a little blind and a little dumb.” And I think that sums it up perfectly. At some point in a marriage (I would say year 7) people reach a cross roads were they find out holding stupid grudges against your spouse and expecting them to be perfect is kinda dumb some people never get over it and that can turn into divorce, infidelity, constant fighting etc.

Even if your spouse is faithful and loving they’re still going to do shit that pisses you off you can let those things build up and turn into resentment or you let them roll off your back. You can’t let marriage be something that happens to you, you have to an active participant in making it work.

*This is all assuming you vetted for compatibly before you married this person. If not, yea, your marriage won’t work no matter what.
