Men aren't allowed to have feelings or opinions backed by facts. Feelsbadman 😕 Maybe a little humor will make us all feel better about it.

Men can't have feelings or opinions grounded in facts, it seems 😕. This whole silencing of men's voices is going too far.

It's the basically the concept of "benevolent sexism" were being chivalrous towards women and prioritizing their safety is consider sexism because you view them as the weaker sex.

The confusing thing is that when women are treated the same way men are treated,it's viewed as hostile sexism. So apparently when women get what they want, which is preferential treatment,it is still considered sexism against women, and women are actually the most affected. /s

[–]Rol9x 38 points39 points40 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

However, feminists constantly advocate for lenient sentences for women and for women not being drafted, as we have seen lately. It's just no point in arguing with feminists about that. We know what we want, we need to choose the politicians who want to do it for us.

[–]GodBirb 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep they’ll argue and say that men are being sexist by being the majority of army soldiers due to the draft, and then say that they don’t want to be part of the draft.

[–]Createdtopostthisnow 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

you are starting to get it. It boils down to the fact that a lot of women, not all, but a lot, feel an almost surreal sense of jealousy and competition, especially towards each other. There is this profound feminist front of unity, bc they collectively know that right behind the scenes they are ripping each other to shreds.

Have you ever stopped and watched how women bully each other? Its Satanic. But even mentioning that, even from a psychological standpoint, will get you fired and perhaps jailed.

A lot of people will do anything to get what they want, even if its a profoundly unrealistic fairy tale, a fever dream of how their perfect life should be, even if it means destroying other people. Its common, honestly across all walks of life.

[–]Buddhalove11 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Look the only people claiming chivalry and being decent and a gentlemen towards women is “considered sexism because you view them as the weaker sex,” are women and specifically the radicalized type and the manipulated, hypnotized males that support it. Facts and Truth. Thats all I care about. The truth and facts dont care about feelings, emotions or opinions they stand up by themselves. Nor do they require ANYONE to “believe” them.

[–]EnvironmentalWar4627 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Perhaps women are a mixed group that all want different things. It's possible that they all aren't one entity that thinks and acts together.

That would explain why some women want one thing and others want another.

[–]ImplodedPotatoSalad 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So? If they give us group treatment - and they do - its just eaual to respond in kind. No matter how much it hurts them.

[–]EricAllonde 52 points53 points54 points 4 years ago (40 children) | Copy Link

Feminists are the most privileged, and also the most self-centered, human beings who've ever lived. They literally cannot stand to hear a conversation about a person other than them. That's why they are compelled to immediately redirect every conversation to be about them, even if doing so requires some extreme mental gymnastics.

Since feminists are a group that subscribes to Victimhood Culture, their particular form of self-centeredness involves always making themselves the biggest, if not the only, victim in any situation. Sometimes this makes them sound utterly absurd.

E.g.:

Normal person: "During WW1, the Vietnam war and others, only men were drafted then forced to fight & die."

Feminist: "Yeah, but women were not ALLOWED to join the army if they wanted to! And that's much worse!"

Any time you bring up a men's issue, feminists will do the same thing: diminish & dismiss the issue you raised, then pick some objectively less serious women's issue and pretend it is the bigger problem. E.g.:

Normal person: "Men commit suicide at a rate 4 times higher than women do."

Feminist: "Yeah, but women ATTEMPT suicide more often! That's the real issue here!" [This claim is false, BTW.]

There's not much you can do about this. Feminists are not rational, their arguments are all based on emotion. No amount of facts or logic can get through to them.

If you find yourself in a debate with a feminist, remember that the objective is not to convince her you're correct. That's impossible, she's too deeply indoctrinated and isn't thinking rationally at all. Your objective is to discredit her and her feminist arguments in front of the audience who is watching. Over time that will erode public support for feminism and innoculate people against becoming feminists. And that's how we achieve gender equality.

[–]KnowerJay[S] 15 points16 points17 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

First of all, great comment. Couldn't agree more. I salute that last paragraph.

I'm honestly so grateful for this community. I've known about it for a while but never got directly involved with it, but now the flood gates are open for me.

Many feminists, especially the radical kind, will constantly gaslight men and always make everything about them. They'll make sweeping generalizations about men and then use that justify censoring them. So many feminists complain about oppression and the patriarchy, but ironically enough they act oppressively themselves. It's like Orwell's Big Brother, but feminized.

Big Sister is watching us, gentlemen.

[–]ignatztempotypo 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

They've also gained immense ground through social media lately, due to "sisterhood". While they are prone to plenty of vicious backstabbing of other females, they will still immediately close ranks and stand united against men. Men have an innate basis of "lone wolf" psychology. We will stand together eventually if there is a major threat i.e. war, but rarely against females. The almighty drive to "get the girl" wins almost every time.

[–]Effective-Walrus1157 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That "lone wolf" psychology is probably part of the reason more men kill themselves.

Women are incredibly supportive of each other and tend to have bigger social networks than men do, which helps mental health.

The weird part is that the woman in the misunderstood post here was saying that part of the reason more men commit suicide is sexism - men are expected to be able to take care of themselves. They're seen as stronger than women, which means they aren't given or don't know how to ask for the help they need.

And that's tragic. Yet pointing it out gets men like you doubling down on the idea that it's great men have lone wolf psychology, even though it hurts a lot of men, and mocking "sisterhood," which is just women helping each other out.

...

[–]ignatztempotypo 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nowhere did I say great men. The lone wolf psychology is not a bonus. You misread me. I also do not mock sisterhood. Where are you getting these ideas from? We as men need to feel brotherhood with each other. The old saying "United we stand, divided we fall" is as true now as it ever was.

Don't turn my words against me. Read what I actually said again.

[–]tenchineuro 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Feminist: "Yeah, but women were not ALLOWED to join the army if they wanted to! And that's much worse!"

Actually, they could join, and some few women did.

What they say is that not being drafted is somehow discrimination against women, even though they are violently opposed to women being drafted. During the two instances where adding women to the draft was an issue, they also opposed the draft, but otherwise they don't care and it's a non-issue with them.

[–]GodBirb 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Just reading and article about this now.

feminist critique has often regarded the military as a hierarchical, male-dominated institution promoting destructive forms of power

Just a bunch of meaningless waffle to dodge the draft and still pretend to be on the side of equality lol

Where would we be if we decided the military was too much of a ‘male dominated institution promoting destructive forms of power’ and scrapped it in 1939?

Or if they do believe that the draft is unfair on everyone, which is totally fair enough (It’s the opinion I hold honestly), then why weren’t they interested in taking it down until they were suggested for the draft themselves? Almost like feminism means equality for women but not for men, despite how egalitarian some of them will claim it is.

[–]Schadrach 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or if they do believe that the draft is unfair on everyone, which is totally fair enough (It’s the opinion I hold honestly), then why weren’t they interested in taking it down until they were suggested for the draft themselves?

It's like the ERA, in theory they support it but it's sufficiently on the back burner to not really do anything about it or even bring it up unless directly asked.

[–]Effective-Walrus1157 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Do you have a source for claiming women attempting suicide more often is false? Would appreciate it, thanks.

this is so true it was hard to read. watching this world fall apart, watching the working class disintegrate, all while watching a litany of women say "Wow, thats me! Wow, me! Me!" Its revolting. We worship aggression and control in America, out of an intense fear of mortality and a demonic envy created by Bernaysian marketing and social media.

imagine the mind behind listening to the profound suffering so many men are facing, and just doing everything you can to immediately refute it, in the most moronic and self serving way possible, and not even take the 5 seconds it would take to pretend you have empathy.

[–]Huffers1010 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Try being in a country that isn't the USA, in a culture (let's call it western culture) dominated by the USA.

The gender thing is more consistent over the whole western world, but the race thing you guys do legitimately have somewhat worse than other places because of the history. Watch activists import American culture wars into, say, the UK.

The result is that BLM protesters chanted "don't shoot" at unarmed British police.

[–]Createdtopostthisnow 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

thats absolutely insane. the whole thing is insane. the result of an unjust and racially motivated drug war, which they lost control of, and inner cities are so eye wateringly violent it almost defies belief.

The cops ramp up to the vicious gangs, instead of trying to unwind it, and the last thing they would ever do is give up funding. The whole thing is failed, was racist from the beginning, and in reality is America doing to its own people what it does to people overseas as well. The US government is more than willing to make a paycheck out of your suffering.

Black people, White people, the cops, everyone is so fucking full of shit, and anyone with a brain knows it. Its just a marketing based proxy war for social control.

[–]ImplodedPotatoSalad 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dont deal drugs, and you dont die. Its easy.

[–]jadedlonewolf89 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

“Don’t shoot.” That would require your police to have sidearms.
Last I knew they didn’t.

[–]Huffers1010 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Exactly.

Look, I get that they're just using a popular slogan, I get that they've inherited it from elsewhere, but these people are just so staggeringly obedient that they'll say stuff they know they'll be torn apart for in the right-wing press. And they were.

[–]Createdtopostthisnow 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

thats actually frightening.

Most countries have no idea how violent America was in the cities, truly, like killing fields, and much of it slowly got better, until the most policed areas look like Disney....while pockets of intense violence remains in areas that are totally controlled by drugs and street gangs. They would never say that openly, but it is absolutely true. The cops are scared to death, and wont go in to certain areas without a platoon of backup.

[–]Extra-Strike2276 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

There was an area like that where I grew up. I worked for the cable company and had to go in there sometimes to fix cables with bullets in them. Every time cops would stop me and warm me not to go in because I was on my own. No one fucks with the cable guy fixing their cable and internet though, so never had any problems. The cops refused to go in after dark, it was completely unpatrolled. That was about 15 years ago, so no idea if things have changed

[–]Createdtopostthisnow 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

its the same. if you get jumped, the female cops will blame you. what are you doing here? Why did they jump you? and then try and intimidate you with some bulshit charge. they just want to cash those checks, no one is walking in to a warzone. and these, my friends, are literal war zones, don't believe what the media sells you.

I got a motorcycle helmet stolen after getting jumped, a female cop showed up, and she just kept glaring at me saying what are you doing here?' over and over. the dude was standing across the street, holding a 400 dollar Shoei. This is clown world.

[–]Extra-Strike2276 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

They assume if you're white, you must be buying drugs so you deserved it. It's something I've always found interesting when there is a big fuss over a black person getting harassed in a white neighborhood. They never mention what happens in the reverse. There were tons of white people killed in that neighbor I mentioned earlier, and they never made the news. My junior high school was in there and my black friends refused to let me walk home alone. They would walk with me to the end of the neighborhood, and watch for a bit. They made me promise not to ever go in on my own because I'd be beaten, or even killed. I wasn't rich or anything, I was just white and didn't blend in. My grandfather used to put new roofs on some of the houses out there for people he knew, and they would kick us out before sunset. Even while just doing volunteer work, you don't want to be there after dark.

[–]Createdtopostthisnow 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

thats just reality.

remember when all the German tourists were getting killed in Miami?

Its bc nice German people would get turned around, and then pull up to the wrong hood in Miami, and say Ello friends, can you help us find our way? and they would yank them out of their cars and kill them.

Welcome to America.

[–]Extra-Strike22762 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Actually no I don't lol. Maybe before my time or just missed it in all the chatter. I used to live about a 100 miles away too. Miami used to be great, but the last time I went down there it was a shit show. You have a very small area of very rich, and the area around looks like a slum with people trying to sell stuff on every corner. Gun shots at night and some of the murders out there are cartel type stuff, very brutal. My friend got harassed out there and tried walking away, but got tackled by a cop (cop heard the yelling and assumed it was at him). Got locked up over a multitool in his pocket. He was put in general population for the weekend, and the stories he told from that were reason enough to never go back.

[–]Createdtopostthisnow2 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Miami Dade jail is an absolute nightmare. LA County, New Orleans, apparently people say big city jails now are worse than prison.

I just Googled it, it was 1993. Look how many died, the article I saw said the 8th one. Imagine how many just got stomped. Late crack epidemic.

[–]ImplodedPotatoSalad 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Female cop, nuff said. Most are worthless. Where I live, I had displeasure of witnessing female cop ASKING a crim to please stop beating her partner. No other reaction, and bitch had literal long firearm with her.

Worthless little scared girl.

[–]GodBirb 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I agree with most of what you have to say, but that fact that women are more likely to attempt suicide/have suicidal thoughts and actions is true and is backed up by studies.

It’s up to you what you do with that information though. It could be argued both ways that women struggle more than men, or men struggle more than women to be honest.

[–]EricAllonde 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

that fact that women are more likely to attempt suicide/have suicidal thoughts and actions is true and is backed up by studies.

[–]ImplodedPotatoSalad 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

hey man, this was really hard to read. i think you’re trying to victimize yourself in saying that ALL feminists are like this and like to prey on men whenever they want to speak their minds. I advise you to do some research on what feminism really is before posting a whole spiel on reddit including calling all women ‘satanic’. REAL feminism is wanting equality. What you have described is white feminism and does not represent all feminists at all. Have a good day!

[–]EricAllonde 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

before posting a whole spiel on reddit including calling all women ‘satanic’.

Pro tip: when you blatantly lie about something that's that's easy to disprove by reading the comment right above it, that tends to discredit your arguments. I realize you are a feminist and that lying comes as naturally as breathing to feminists, but you try to refrain from it in forums like this one where your lies can be pointed out because the forum is not censored by feminists.

I advise you to do some research on what feminism really is

does not represent all feminists at all.

Translation: "You should just read the PR spin for what feminism is about and blindly believe it".

Nope. It's far too late for that. Subscribers in this sub know the reality of feminism from observing the ideology and feminist behavior over a long period of time. In my experience, we know much more about feminism than the feminists who know visit this sub do, or at least more than you lot are willing to admit.

[+]bullshit_police6 -6 points-5 points-4 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

alright! to each their own! i hope you open up your mind sometime in life :) have a good day!

[–]EricAllonde 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Rather than saying, "I hope you blindly accept our women-first hate cult sometime", you would be better off working to change feminism so that it lives up to the ideals that its glossy PR spin promotes.

Because until then, we are all going to work tirelessly to end that cancer of society, in order to achieve gender equality.

[–]bullshit_police6 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I did not say to blindly follow anything! Just to read up on the subject 👍🏼 hopefully then you won’t be as threatened by the idea!! GOOD DAYYYYYYYYYYYYY

[–]lodakraz 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How is reading up on what "real feminism" is, change the fact that he is complaining about all the shitty bad feminism? He does generallize, which is wrong, but how do you not shit on the movement when even though it's supposed to be a different thing, the practical effects in relation to men can get pretty sketchy? No one os threatened by reading on what good feminism should be like, it's just kinda irrelevant to his rant, good feminism is a non issue, the problem is both that and radical cringey types is all under the same umbrella

[–]EricAllonde 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He does generallize, which is wrong

You've got a point. The insane, lunatic, man-hating feminists do give the other 5% a bad name.

[–]ImplodedPotatoSalad 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Does not matter what the "idea" is. What matters is if its profitable for US, and beneficial for US. If you think we are a team, you are mistaken. That team ceased to exist due to feminists saying we are evil.

[–]bullshit_police6 -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

ALSO what makes it cancerous?? Like just an example of something you don’t like about it

[–]ImplodedPotatoSalad 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Glorification of ones like Dvorkin and Solanas. Does not matter how much, how often, or anything. You have exrremists in your midst, and you enable them instead of culling them. Good name is not given freely, its easily lost, and recovery of it is not possible.

[–]ImplodedPotatoSalad 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you dont want your extremists to represent you, deal with them. If gou dont, you are enabler at best, and aame ilk at worst. So why should I trust you, "good feminist"? When its easier, safer, and more efficient to just distance myself and never ever support you?

Because you whaaaant?

[–]Kindly-Town 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The comment writes some but it's only addressing child custody.

[–]KnowerJay[S] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Hm. I don't see how any of them are the fault of men by default, though.

In the case of child custody, this is something that inherently benefits women. Women could fight against this but they don't. Not any that I've seen anyway.

As for something like drafting men, I don't see women voting for the right to be equally drafted any time soon lmao.

[–]sorebum405 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hm. I don't see how any of them are the fault of men by default, though. In the case of child custody, this is something that inherently benefits women. Women could fight against this but they don't. Not any that I've seen anyway.

Yeah, when it comes to child custody issues the blame definitely can't be put on men alone. As a matter of fact If we're going to blame one sex women are probably more to blame then men.It was a woman who created the tender years doctrine, and women's groups like NOW have actively opposed shared parenting. So I think it's absurd for people to think it's all men's fault.

Lol so feminists are objectively wrong when they say it's men's fault? Caroline Norton is the name of the woman who proposed this doctrine, and she was a feminist lmao. You can't make this shit up. Thanks a lot for this info, it's good to be informed of the truth.

Even if a man had proposed it though, you'd still have to ask why feminists don't fight that kind of inequality. Because some inequality actually benefits them.

[–]Puscifer10 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The real reason women didn't go to war:

The physical to ensure you are able to handle being in a live firefight is fairly extreme. This is a test that women in the armed forces have failed to complete until recently. The requirements for the physical were lowered for women, as if the situation in a war zone will be somehow less intense for a woman.

In reality, women still aren't capable of passing the original test, due to physical differences in men and women's anatomy. This issue alone has caused massive debate and women claiming sexism forever.

To be honest with you all, I'm perfectly happy for this to be the case. We should be on the front lines, we should be in construction roles, we should be at risk. I don't even want a thank you from anyone, I don't want to be seen as superior because I can lift more without any practice, I just don't want to be attacked for it. The whole "women and children first" thing is natural. I would rather die than watch a woman or child die. Can they say the same about me?

[–]KnowerJay[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I just don't want to be attacked for it.

This basically sums it up for me as well. In the case of dating for example, I'm alright taking responsibility for the way I approach women and how I engage with them in general, but then expecting me to take on all that responsibility and also shaming me when I get rejected is just wrong.

The answer is that young people have been brainwashed by feminism so that everything is men's fault, and women are always victims. Period. That's how they think.

[–]DanteLivra 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

It's the classic "women are the primary victims of war" argument. Basically, the existence of discrimination towards women is the source of all discrimination and also the cause of every piece of civilization on the planet. Sexism towards women is everywhere and it permiates everything. Sounds a lot like a religion.

That being said, it's just mental gymnastics to justify the erasure of men's advocacy.

[–]KnowerJay[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. Thing is, you can both accept that women can be victims of certain circumstances, and also advocate for men's overall issues. It's not as though men aren't ever victims of anything, but a lot of women can't fathom what it's like to be a man and hold on to victim mentality. But the truth is that there are a lot of advantages that women take for granted that men don't ever experience, or rarely experience.

As someone who lives in a country (Singapore) where I was made to serve in the military for 2 years, point (3) really irks me. Or rather, the utter apathy and indifference that females, often as a result of feminist brainwashing exhibit towards service.

I can totally understand being drafted. I can accept that men are physically more suited for the military, or for that matter, most uniformed services, and I can concede that at some level, the military simply needs a certain level of "warm bodies" to get the job done (every country has its own unique circumstances though). I also believe that forcing women into "non-combat" roles e.g., nursing etc just to maintain an image of "equality" is pretty dumb--- I do not want women who are uninterested and sulky to be taking care of my elderly parents or the disabled. In short, I am OK with this being an unequal playing field, if its for the greater good of society.

That said, I am flabbergasted at the degree which women today take mens' service for granted. Sure, we're not doing actual tours or participating in kinetic combat like in the US. Our training isn't as tough as a few generations back, where my dad was trained by the Israelis . Still, training is pretty dangerous, with long term injuries and death being not-too-uncommon. I know of friends who lost fingers. I myself still suffer from chronic back pain. And don't even get me started on the opportunity cost; my female peers were earning more than 10 times my military allowance as an intern, while I was (figuratively) chewing barbed wire outfield.

In spite of this, feminists and females who buy into their ideology have overtly opposed even discussing the issue of relooking compensation to men. Apparently, it's dangerous to even discuss revising compensation for servicepeople. In fact, the trend today is to consider serving not as a liability, but a form of discrimination for women! In some feminist circles, the military is seen as a government funded, male-exclusive group for career networking. What the heck? Anecdotally, I find this trend particularly pronounced amongst younger females. My parents' generation still acknowledge our sacrifices. Women in their late 20s and 30s are simply adept at mental gymnastics.

"I wold love to serve, but... I'm too weak". What was it about women being just as strong as men? Also, I was physically unfit as well, but was whacked into shape during basic training. It's not impossibly tough, it's just uncomfortable and time consuming, and you know it. Heres a funny one "I think women will bitch too much, hence we're unsuitable for service". W-H-A-T? And then theres the classic, "What about me giving birth? Thats service, no? Also, who's gonna take care of households?" Giving birth is not mandatory service, its a choice. And how you split chores and duties with your husband is a private matter between you and him. It's not like men don't do housework these days. And... the usual finale: "Men were the one who made those laws", its toxic masculinity's fault!

I've recently been probing sources from South Korea and Taiwan, both of which have mandatory male-only military service (though Taiwan has dramatically shortened theirs). Based on what I can see, the exact same arguments (and counter arguments) are going on there. In Taiwan, these feminists are known as 女權自助餐, i.e., feminist buffet, since they pick and choose parts of "equality" serves them well. I don't understand Korean, but english media outlets and my personal Korean friends tell me feminism is not popular there at all, and is shaping up to be a significant battleground in their upcoming election. In a warped sense, it feels good to find that we're not be alone in this.

[–]KnowerJay[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for sharing your story. I feel your frustration. Many, if not all feminists will always try to discredit men's issues and struggles and try to make their issues out to be the only important ones. This is disgusting behavior and it has to stop. Men aren't sub-human, and they're not members of some patriarchal illuminati conglomerate. Women have to stop having this perpetual victim mentality and step up and take their own personal power, not take away others'.

Longer Sentences:

The courts respect men, they judge men harshly and view the actions of men as those of an individual who acts on his own accord. It’s unfair and it hurts men when extenuating circumstances are not often considered.

Similarly, the justice system system has little respect for women. It infantilizes them, and treats them as a product of society, NOT as respected individuals who act on their own accord. Women are viewed as weak of mind and action, viewed as lesser, and viewed as children that must be coddled and given soft lessons and second chances. It is sexism against women, it also happens to benefit them when it comes to sentencing.

Custody: Men are viewed as providers for women and children. It is our “purpose” in the sexist society we live in. Women are viewed as the weaker sex who cannot provide, but as better suited for domestic labor and child rearing. It’s sexist towards women, but it often benefits them regardless.

The draft: Women are weak. Men are strong. Men must protect us. It’s sexist, it hurts men, it directly benefits women but indirectly reinforces the notion of their weakness.

Suicide: For all the reasons mentioned above, men are less likely to receive the help and care they need in times of turmoil. This can cascade into a life that doesn’t seem worth living due to the pressures to provide, defend, and be held personally accountable for every action (and external forces upon us are often ignored or discarded, like abuse/schooling disadvantages/familial pressure/etc).

These are all reinforced by the patriarchy, they all hurt men, and the first three directly benefit women.

[–]KnowerJay[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Custody: Do you know who Caroline Norton is? I suggest you look her up as well as the 'tender years doctrine' and see if you still think this is the patriarchy's fault.

Drafting: Men are biologically stronger, there's no doubt about that. There are the Ronda Rousey's of the world, of course, so I'm not talking about outliers such as her. Another commenter here said that they have to lower the physical requirements for female army initiates because they're simply too extenuating otherwise. That said, if women wanted to vote to get drafted to level the playing field, I'd respect it. Though I don't agree with drafts in general.

Suicide: The 'patriarchy' isn't to blame for men ending their own lives. Society at large is, which is composed of both men and women. There is no male-only illuminati that's out to get everyone. I agree that there are groups of men that discourage emotional bonds, but there are also groups of women that do this too. I've seen this happen both ways in my own life. This whole thing is more of a global mental health crisis issue as opposed to 'men are at fault just because'. This mentality that the patriarchy is at fault for everything hurts men's mental health if anything, as it makes them feel like everything is their fault and they should feel bad about themselves for existing because there's something inherently wrong with them.

For thousands of years men made other men fight in wars and gave men longer prison sentences. Which discredits the idea that this problem developed based on discrimination against men since men were making the calls.

I think there's some nuance that you're missing.

Plus it doesn't have to be a competition.

For example it was the women's movement that pushed for and passed the laws around child custody, marriage, and divorce. You can yell and scream about male lawmakers all you want but that just shows how little you understand about the democratic process.

I guess you have to decide if you blame the people asking politicians for laws or the politicians that pass them.

As we have seen huge increases in female politicians, we have also seen huge increases in the number of shared custody orders. It kind of seems like increases in female politicians and judges have been helpful.

[–]Oncefa2 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

No but you come across as trying to downplay and whitewash the issue, regardless of your actual intentions.

It's just as sexist to say that "men need to support women and children so they're forced to work a job" as it is to say "women need to take care of men and their children so they should stay at home and do the cleaning".

And in actuality the former was worse than staying home anyway. Not that it should be important, but it becomes relevant when people try to whitewash it. It's stupid to act like being protected and provided for is fundamentally "oppressive", especially compared to the male role. If anything it's just privilege backfiring.

I think the point that a lot of people are trying to make is that men get painted as oppressors and not as equal victims.

I mean that's basically the point of the OP and you're coming in here repeating the same mistake.

[–]EnvironmentalWar4627 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Men aren't oppressors just because attitudes towards women are one of the reasons for their problems.

That's a jump that doesn't make sense.

If attitudes towards women are giving women advantages in certain areas, men are not the cause. All of society is the cause equally.

[–]Oncefa2 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You're ignoring attitudes towards men.

It's not just that women are perceived as needing help.

It's that men are perceived as being worth less than women. The happiness and safety of a man is less important than the happiness and safety of a woman. Not just because women are perceived to be weaker but because women are held in higher regard than men.

Trying to spin everything around to be rooted in sexism against women is itself incredibly sexist against men.

You are engaging in traditional gender norm enforcement right now by refusing to see this. Making you a part of the social structure that creates oppression and discrimination in society. Both against men and against women.

[–]EnvironmentalWar46271 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

But isn't this a chicken and egg situation? Whether the root cause is attitudes towards women or men the results are the same. I certainly don't think anyone can possibly empirically prove which attitudes started this problem. Just where it ended up.

[–]Oncefa25 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That's why I'm taking a middle position and criticizing you for only looking at things one way.

And as a practical matter, some of the perceptions against men are relevant when it comes to deconstructing these problems, again both for women and for men.

[–]EnvironmentalWar46271 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That's fair. But its obviously tough to determine if society favours women or disfavours men.

An easy way to frame that debate is whether men should be punished less or women should be punished more. But this depends on your stance on mass incarceration as much as gender.

Society is a hell of a thing.

since men were making the calls.

If Hitler was Jewish, would his actions during WW2 be less antisemitic? Yes or no.

You could argue rich and powerful men don't see men as being worthy of empathy

I'd say rich and powerful people don't see anyone as being worthy of empathy. Though I'm sure they see that losing men doesn't affect next generations as much as losing women, because of how our reproduction works.

And that's why they want women to stay safe at home with children, and they want men to do all the unhealthy and dangerous (sometimes rewarding) things.

Also, I don't always see men as equally worthy in comparison to women, and I obviously don't have any objective reason for it. It could as well be natural, an instinct, I think some other animals are known to protect their females by sacrificing males too.

Both options seem much more based than a secret society that sees men as disposable because it hates women.

These women want conditional feminism. When it comes to high-powered jobs they want gender parity but when it comes to fixing roofs in the summer, repairing clogged sewers, working on a sanitation truck, repairing a flat tire or being evacuated first from a sinking ship they don’t mind gender inequality. We need to start calling feminists’ bluff and, when they complain about the gender wage gap, tell them that there are plenty of good paying jobs available at the sanitation department and hand them a job application.

And, have you ever noticed that when a woman does do work with a street crew they’re very satisfied with just standing around holding a sign and directing traffic instead of doing the physical labor? There’s never a complaint about equity then.

Men are given less social support because it's assumed and expected men can take care of themselves.

Women get custody more (although I've read data that suggests this isn't really true, most custody decisions are made by the parents, not in court) because women are seen as nurturers.

Men are given longer jail sentences because women are seen as less harmful than men.

The idea is that sexist assumptions about men and women hurt both men and women. Women are seen as weaker, which ends up helping them in some ways even as it hurts them.

Men are seen as stronger, which means they don't get the help they need and are automatically seen as predators by people and get drafted into war.

Shit sucks.

One could rephraded the other way around "women's issues stem from sexist ideologies thag discriminate against men". What I hate the most about these people is that one can tell that they bring these things only to discredite men's issues and not to add anything meaningful to the conversation.

If you can't view women as powerful, independent people, and only as passive objects that the world pushes around then everything looks like external forces acting on women.

Just like if you see a rock rolling down a mountain you must conclude that some external force acted on it, rather than it making itself roll down the mountain.

Edit: Viewing women as weaker, does not result in better treatment for women. It's only because we value women that the get better treatment. For example, if you have two hammers and one is weaker than the other, you'll throw out the weaker one because a weak hammer is not valuable. You might keep the hammer if it is valuable to you in some way. Like it belonged to your grandfather and has sentimental value.

I can explain it to you:

Back in the slavery days, racism against white people caused everyone to think that they were too weak to handle plantation work.

Especially that tiny minority of white people who were rich and actually owned plantations- they were so undervalued and discriminated against that people thought all they were capable of was sitting in the shade of mansions drinking fine brandy.

So this ended with bad results for black people, who were enslaved because of this anti white racism.

I think she’s advocating not for shorter prison sentences for men, but longer sentences for women? Like the equality shouldn’t make men’s lives better, it should make women’s lives worse, because women are stronger than we give them credit for?

[–]biff64gc -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's implying that women don't get drafted and get shorter sentences because they are viewed as too weak and fragile, which is a sexist view. So our sexist view of women leads us to be less harsh on them.

That's how you see things like a feminist. You take a fact and figure out how it's either a negative for women or being caused by sexism against women.

  • Men dying in combat? Women are treated as fragile and don't get to fight (sexism) or women are left as single mothers (hurts women).
  • Men dying on worksite? Women aren't allowed to do dangerous work (sexism) and women don't make as much/are left as single mothers again (hurts women).
  • Men not graduating college? Women get more scholarships because they are seen as not as smart (sexism). Also this means fewer good choices for partners for women (hurts women).
  • Men homeless? Women get more help because seen as weak and unable to care for themselves (sexism) and less support and resources spent on women that aren't homeless (hurts women)

It takes some mental gymnastics, but you can make it work for pretty much anything as long as you don't over analyze it. It's what happens when your worldview starts with conclusion before you know facts and can be applied to pretty much any ideology or conspiracy.

It’s quite simple really.

Men made the system. Men portrayed women as less than. They werent allowed to have a bank acct, or own property among other things. Women have never been privileged. They’re favored in custody cases etc, but they’re not privileged. & mens sexism and misogyny directly correlate to their idea of manhood/manliness. Their comment is correct.

Men made me the system. Any “disadvantages” men have is due to other men. Not women.

True. We men made the system. With our work. For OURSELVES to profit from. And giving feminists what they wanted shouldnt happen that much. Women quite literally weren’t allowed to do anything bc of men…. Women HAVE made plenty of things. A woman made windshield wipers, a woman discovered Kevlar, a woman invented diapers. A black woman invented home security systems. A woman made life rafts. A woman invented the circular saw. Beulah Henry invented over 100 things and obtained 49 patents on her inventions. A woman invented the laserphaco probe (drs use these to dissolve cataracts). A woman invented coffee filters, to make brewing coffee easier. A WOMANS work paved the way for wifi, gps, and Bluetooth. There’s thousands more but I think you get the point. Women have, and continue to help create and improve life changing inventions.

Men made the government/legal system which only benefited white men. No one else. Now women wanna complain about the system ? Seems to me y’all are just mad that other people have rights now lmao The system is still set up to benefit men, especially white men, the most. The idea that men are lacking privilege or are at any disadvantage in life is laughable.

& I promise most women wouldnt have an issue if y’all had just given them their own island 🤣 Y’all would have perished without women anyways

Men made the government/legal system which only benefited white men

Women didnt really do much to build that system, early on, tho. Entitlement is real here. "& I any women would have an issue if y’all had just given them theirown island 🤣 Y’all would have perished without women anyways" meanwhile, feminists tend to throw a fit when men both give them attention, and NOT give it ;)

And artificial uterus is being worked on, and by more than one team. So. We'd probably be ok...
