The number one sign of a true beta, for me, has always been a man who predominantly wants someone else to lead. This quickly becomes apparent in the small things, like having little ambition in his profession or letting his friends and family push him around. In a relationship, this manifests in expecting his girlfriend/wife to make all of the decisions, about what they do with their time, where they live, how they decorate, whose friends and family they see the most, how they spend their money, how they raise their children. That doesn't mean a HVM won't expect his girlfriend/wife to contribute, but that he won't expect her to do everything. Your exhausted friend who feels like she's responsible for everything, from paying the bills to disciplining the kids to doing everything around the house is married to a beta.

It's important to remember that you want some beta traits and you probably don't want someone who is aware of the Red Pill or striving to be the ultimate alpha. I don't think anyone who has ever met my husband would call him beta, but he slept in that horrible recliner in the ICU ward every night when I almost died after childbirth and that's a beta trait by Red Pill teachings. Things like taking care of you when you're sick, helping with the babies in the middle of the night, comforting you when you're upset, will often be referred to as beta attributes, but that doesn't necessarily make a man beta, according to most of the women here. A HVM has these sorts of beta traits, while still being a strong leader.

Edited to add: I wouldn't suggest testing a man to see if he's "beta." If he's not, he'll see through it and likely lose interest. Just pay attention. Most men tell you exactly who they are. It's on you to listen.

There's no such thing as a full on beta, even women have plenty of masculine alpha traits, but there is certainly "too beta for me".

E.g., Hermione Granger could never date Neville Longbottom, but Hannah Abbott would (if you don't read Harry Potter - Hermione is very firey and outspoken, and Hannah and Neville are both prone to crying/hiding). So it's not about how beta he is but how alpha you are and what you need in a man. Then there is of course the separate question, of how much competition a very alpha man is willing to tolerate from a woman, but that's for another day.

Self knowledge, as always, is key.

So I'll ask you, how alpha are you? What are your best traits? Does he meet your virtues?

As for "testing" whether he is beta - this is called "shit testing" in the RP world and I strongly advise against it. It really pisses men off and is probably the reason why they think women are unhinged and irrational. If he's your boyfriend you already know everything you need to know about him, you just haven't sorted through it yet.

I agree with all of the advice to observe rather than test. Behavior doesn’t always match who they are inside. For example some men who are very assertive are confident HVM. But other assertive men are actually insecure. Some men who are very unthreatening / super nice can be beta and pushover. Or they are extremely secure but easygoing and don’t need to assert themselves unless necessary.

I personally really value inner confidence in a man and it’s not always obvious!! A couple of examples of what I like to look for: How do they deal with small disagreements? Or small challenges / setbacks? In my mind a confident man isn’t discouraged or threatened by these things, but has the courage to overcome them!

Lacks convictions, or may be has it and is too scared to stand by them. Isn't very principled. Lacks empathy and can't pick up on hints (due to an emaciated intellect usually).

For me, I don’t really believe in testing partners but I look at how they interact with other people in their lives - at work, parents, friends, even service workers when we go out. I’ve always felt like it’s pretty clear to me very quickly based on what I see and feel though, I haven’t had to try hard to figure it out.

Hmm. Not sure it really works like that. Look for leadership qualities, wait, be receptive. Create a vacuum. If he doesn’t fill it with his ideas, decisions, etc then you’ll know more about his “alpha” vs “beta” tendencies. This is a gross oversimplification.

That alpha/beta dichotomy is mostly bullshit imo. You can’t classify a man like that, it will make things more complicated.

For example: an alpha male will make all decisions and the betas will follow. Does it mean that a man can’t let someone else decide or he will be automatically a beta? Usually a good leader knows when he doesn’t knows better and allow those who do to lead.

IMHO one of the most important things to look on a man is his take on responsibility.

Maybe just think about what you want on a man and on your relationship and observe if they show those traits you want.

Honestly, whats wrong with a beta? I've read a few times that alphas are more likely to cheat.... I mean as long as he's still moral and has some conservative beliefs... coming from a purple pill/centrist. I think betas are more willing to compromise, too. All of this is just a roleplay in my opinion, I mean somebody could act in a certain way be a jerk or physically imposing and still be a coward, the same goes for woman. I personally think almost similar criteria aplly to men and women, braveness, strenght, honesty etc. Woman who want those traits in a men but dont posses them are maybe similar to incels who want a Supermodel.

Im so beta that at this point im an omega lmao. Im a dude just lurking here. What I will say is tha if your into the "alpha" just look to see if he follows his friends or they follow him. Im not a follower per say, I just really dont play into any of the social norms. I dont do this naturally. It took a lot of work and time to be as comfortable with myself as I am. Also the military helped.
