Simple.. when they use the word MEN then point out that Men is the plural form of Man (Just as Women is the plural to woman) and that if the use the word men in their phrase then they are by default referring to ALL men as a whole unless they use a quantifier like <Some> <Many> <A lot> etc

They are trying to deny having made the generalization to save face. It’s virtue signalling doublespeak.

If someone punched you in the face and then says “I didn’t hit you, I pushed you.” They are only trying to confuse the way you see it.

When someone says “men are pigs, but not all men.” It’s the exact same trick. They get away with the broad stroking generalization of what they want to assert, by denying that their assertion contains negative qualities.

You can’t claim or believe in “all men” behavioural stereotypes. They don’t actually EXIST in the first place. But people try to claim such things with doublespeaking and virtue signalling to make themselves appear acceptable while presenting an unacceptable claim.

Stop hanging out with that person if you can.

If you work with them and are hireable, just shot a polite email to HR about how it made you feel uncomfortable and their response made it worse (only do this if you can afford to look for a new job if it blows back on you).

Don't play the game of saying the same type of thing about women. I guarantee it won't go well for you, despite how unfair that is.

Best option is to cut them out of your life if practical. I found being around anyone that said things like “men are pigs” to be draining and not worth having in my life. If you can’t cut them out make a boundary you can enforce such as when they start saying stereotypes, you’re leaving.

Once you find a given person isn’t interested in a fair debate (they make emotional attacks for example), take that as your lesson to not ever bother debating with them in the future. It takes two to argue.

Being sexist against men is not stigmatized in society the way being racist or being sexist against women is.

So all the various minor ways of being racist or sexist against women are well known to the social consciousness and condemned.

If you're dealing with someone that actually wants to do better, you can explain it to them by comparing whatever they said to racism and combining that with how that makes you feel.

If you feel this tactic wouldn't work with that person, then that person is most likely misandrist and there's nothing you can do. Only overwhelming social pressure could change their mind and you just don't have that.

If you're faced with a misandrist, just let them know what you think of misandry and try to limit that person's influence in your life as much as you can.

Men = all men, it's that simple. The "all" is implied. If it were not, they would clear it up with "some" or at the very least not argue about the corrections.

If I say "cats have 4 legs" the word "cats" means ALL cats, less the exception to the rule, but those are just that, exceptions.

What feminism is pretending they are saying is "cats have 3 legs" when they say "men...." They are blanketing the exception to the rule.

A stereotype doesn't mean that all the people of that group conform to the stereotype. A stereotype is a preconceived idea that a trait is typical or common or a fair representation, of the group.

Perhaps you can ask them if they think whatever they said is typical or common among men.

You do that because you genuinely feel solidarity with the group called “men”. The thing is, for me personally, I have way too many experiences with incredibly embarrassing men to ever think that something they say is describing all men or even me.

When any of my friends say something of the form and the thing they describe men doing is something genuinely embarrassing or unnerving, I take that time to reflect on whether it’s actually cringe or comes off that way. Then I take the time to wonder about whether I do it.

Believe me, I feel so fucking cool knowing that I’m legitimately better than guys who feel the need to ‘speak up for all men’.
