Yet another hypocritical and nonsensical feminist article. No great surprise there.

She complains people watching the trial are making judgements before a verdict is rendered. Viewers are watching evidence by both sides presented fairly in a court of law. Of course viewers will form opinions based on such evidence. Forming an opinion based on evidence isn’t the same as actively trying to ruin her as the author claims, ironic given MeToo BelieveWomen are all about ruining someone, and those without evidence.

Whether Depp wins or loses, feminists want women to always be believed without evidence, and face no consequences for making unsupported claims. This case threatens to put a dent in that.

[–]tenchineuro 33 points34 points35 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Of course viewers will form opinions based on such evidence.

That's the jury's job as well. The only difference is that the jury is not supposed to have any other influences like TV news and blog posts.

[–]63daddy 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep. I respect they are hearing the evidence in more detail with less outside biases than I, so I’ll respect their verdict whichever way it goes.

[–]ultimate_smash[S] 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It is surprising that how big newspapers and news groups are supporting feminist articles which are literally unreasonable

[–]63daddy 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, then again media typically supports feminism.

[–]rocker12341234 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

simple answer.... herds pr team... are we forgetting she literally fired her pr team half way through the trial and hired a new one cause they werent making sure there was enough positive press about her... and almost instantly after she did all the websites and outlets turned from quoting depp and standing with him to licking her ass and finding any thin straw they could to pull at to twist articles in her favour

[–]MooreanShiftingUrArg 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think if people on social media post about how the news is spinning this, this might accelerate the decline of feminist narratives on domestic violence by (rightfully) discrediting the credibility on this issue.

While I've seen alot of popular support for Depp and Memeing Amber Heard (#MePoo 😂😂😂) on social media, I haven't seen a lot of exposing of mainstream media.

[–]dcs577 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Every opinion piece I’ve seen so far from a major news outlet seems to take this type of position…one where Amber is not believed because she isn’t a “perfect victim” or that this shows misogyny and how we haven’t changed as much as we thought in the wake of #metoo…all the while ignoring the fact that men can be and are victims (plus it sounds like women in Amber’s life have been her victims as well). Amber and these reporters are doing the real disservice to victims.

[–]63daddy 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think the imperfect victim concept is nonsense. Whether someone committed or is a victim of a crime is a matter of criminal code. If it’s unclear if that criminal code has been violated, it’s up to a jury of judge to review the facts and decide.

Also, this case isn’t directly about her victimization. It’s about whether she defamed his character and whether the owes him losses he suffered as a result.

If she wants to file criminal charges against him she’s free to do so, but that’s not what this case is.

[–]Angryasfk 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. Apparently an “imperfect victim” is an abuser if it’s a woman. I not his substance abuse issues make Depp an abuser rather than an imperfect victim. Yet more double standards.

The trouble is that Depp doesn’t have a history of this (previous gf’s have said the opposite) whilst Turd does. And he’s got better evidence of his abuse at her hands. Oh dear!

[–]AtikGuide 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

One thing I realized, when arguing with certain individuals: It isn't about the evidence, or veracity, of the charge. It's about the severity of the charge, & how it makes those individuals feel. It's as if evidence doesn't matter. Note: to a great many men, evidence matters, as does veracity.

[–]63daddy 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Good point. I’ve seen media articles and news clips empathize with women convicted of crimes simply because being found guilty was traumatic to the woman. They are putting the person’s emotions over the act they perpetrated.

I suspect this is part of why courts tend to be more lenient on women.

[–]Appropriate_Strain_3 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wonder what she'd be saying if the majority of fan support was towards Amber Heard lol.

[–]Coomergen 155 points156 points157 points 4 years ago* (67 children) | Copy Link

They’re really coping and seething. What I find funny is that they’re making it out like everyone supporting Depp is a bunch of drunken frat bros when the overwhelming majority of people I’ve seen defending Depp are actually women.

[–]sgt_oddball_17 76 points77 points78 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I've never liked Depp. Something about him annoys me, but I have no doubt that he's telling the truth about Heard abusing him.

[–]tenchineuro 76 points77 points78 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

At first I thought Depp did a great job portraying a drunk pirate.

Then I learned that he was not acting, he was drunk on the set.

Now I know why he was drunk on the set and it's more understandable.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I got upset at first when I learned he was drunk all the time during the set. But now, knowing the reasons, I can't blame him.

[–]rocker12341234 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i mean... atleast he took the role as serious as one could lol. best way to act out a drunk pirate convincingly is to be a drunk pirate

[–]Duchat 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You’re right to feel that way. His interviews are uncomfortably candid. He talked about Winona Ryder’s boobs. He shares a lot of very personal information about others. He’s also dumb enough to fall for her allure. He’s not pragmatic.

[–]Old-Acanthaceae6226 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Artists, amirite?

[–]Angryasfk 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think that’s the issue. There’s “something about him” that at lot of women are greatly attracted to.

The point is that this has helped him get a hearing, plus his wealth, and his desire to clear his name. The wider importance is that it will damage the “believe all women” and “Metoo” movements for their promotion of the idea that all women are innocent victims and never perpetrators or using claims for malicious reasons. And will force the acknowledgment that a significant proportion of DV victims are men at the hands of women.

The man haters are clearly feeling threatened. Otherwise they wouldn’t be so worried about yet another celeb bust up saga. They’re running scared. And it shows in their articles and op Ed’s!

some feminists don't know where and when to stop, it's making feminism look bad itself

[–]tenchineuro 58 points59 points60 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Feminism is what makes feminism look bad.

[–]Angryasfk 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Since people like her seem to define the movement, definitely!

[–]LELO_TV 35 points36 points37 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

The MeToo movement is already fucked up at the expense of those women who have actually been assaulted.

Women are the biggest enemy of feminism, change my mind

[–]terminalisolation 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why do you accept their premise thst metoo was ever about anything other than being listened and believed so they could attack men?

Remember the Sopranos actrsss was bragging about fucking Weinstein in texts the next day. She didn’t get the parts so she turned on him. Is he a scumbag? Sure. Is he a rapist? Doubtful. Anyone would say “stop embarrassing me” if a little tart was freaking out in the hallway.

These women know what going back to his hotel room meant. They just didn’t like he was dangling a carrot he couldn’t always deliver. He did try though, we know from testimony from casting directors.

He was convicted based on testimony from women who were allowed to testify because of the similarities between their accounts and the sopranos actress. The jury didn’t find the sopranos actress credible and Harvey was not found guilty on the charges stemming from her accusations.

The media is lying to us, and throwing men under the bus for having a dick. Harvey went to bat for this women trying to sleep their way to success. They made bad investments. They need to learn to deal with that.

Support all men, or you are not helping. Look at how they will and are supporting all women. We cannot leave ourselves at a disadvantage.

Women are the biggest enemy of feminism, change my mind

I'd rather see you prove it.

About the only women you'll hear object to feminism are the Honey Badgers.

[–]LELO_TV 20 points21 points22 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Actually i think you're right.

Now that Amber got exposed as the liar she is, less and less people are going to believe in what a woman says just because she says so, which might be the most equal outcome it could happen.

However, real victims will be affected from this lack of trust, which is what i was talking about.

[–]banmebanmenot 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Good. Crimes need to be proven before a man’s life is ruined

[–]terminalisolation 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Due process is important, especially when it’s a life altering circumstance, such as your fucking college education.

They come for us, deny us our rights, mutilate our bodies tben pretend they are the victims cause some old guy smiled at them and said “smile!” Absolutely pathetic. Men need to wake up and recognize that being stoic and manning up isn’t what we need right now. We need to fight for our rights. No one else will.

[–]banmebanmenot 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I’m fighting for custody of my son, believe me when I tell you I face all types of discrimination.

[–]djb1983CanBoy 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I basically gave up after thr judge said “but shes the mother” and my first lawyer (female) dropped me very unethically. It wasnt worth it to spend another 100k. To fight bullshit just so that the mother will take her revenge for the rest of his childhood. Women act so entitled these days.

[–]terminalisolation 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What real victims? The real victims being harmed are men. They’re the ones ignored. The CDC reports that men report being forced to penetrate women at the same rates women report being forcibly penetrated by men. They just consider that rape, giggle-giggle.

It’s crazy peopel are still claiming victims aren’t believed when heard has multiple major media outlets going to bat for her despite her being caught in lie after lie. They never report that. The New Yorker, USA Today, Vice, vanity fair, Marie Claire, etc are all listening and believing.

When one side says “believe us don’t listen to the evidence” you should see that as a huge red flag. This ain’t about believing rala victims. It’s about victims like Tara Reade, Rolling Stones Jackie, Emma Sulkowicz, and the rest.

We know because they already went after men on college campuses. Remember they threatened to remove funding unless more men were found guilty. They didn’t say to address specific issues with the trials or investigations, they said the burden of proof needed to be lowered. Consider the implications.

I really hope you all wake up. They are literally our enemies. They attack us. Never accept their premises. Always run interference and muddy the waters. It’s what they do to real victims who are men. We can’t like these liars get protections becusse of some imagined real women victims.

Just look at them on social media, the munchaesen by internet is insane. They have a loose connection to objective reality. Feels before reals is genuinely how they process the world.

There have been several self-identification polls on r/justiceforjohnny that show them to be 2/3 women. Granted, people could be lying, so take that for what it’s worth

[–]spike4379 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What I'm fucking tired of is seeing them instantly slant it as conservative to support Depp or that mostly conservatives are supporting him, trying to split people along political disposition. It's so fucking stupid. Typic garbage of "if you support Johnny you're a misogynist."

Even in a situation like this, they still want to push 'believe all women'

Seriously how the fuck can people be so belligerently tiresome?

[–]TheSnesLord 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago* (43 children) | Copy Link

the overwhelming majority of people I’ve seen defending Depp are actually women.

Whilst on paper that sounds promising for men, there are two factors that people need to realise here:

  1. Many of the women are only defending him because it's handsome and famous Johnny. If this was instead some average man against some average woman in the same situation/case, the same women defending Johnny would be defending the average woman, or they wouldn't even care about the average man.
  2. Another reason on why many of the women are defending Johnny and are against Amber is because they hate and are jealous of Heard. Amber Heard may be a c**t, but when tarted up, she's pretty hot. Secretly, women despise sexy/hot actresses because of jealousy.

[–]rocker12341234 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

that and its the current trend to act like they give half a fuck about men when in reality they only hold up the ruse for a couple weeks

[–]dcs577 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Most women aren’t feminists.

[–]TheSnesLord 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

A woman does not have to label/call herself a feminist to have radical feminism values and beliefs.

[–]dcs577 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Most don’t.

[–]TheSnesLord 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Then you're very naive.

[–]dcs577 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are in a bubble. Half the country is conservative and most female conservatives - like all conservatives - don’t like wokeness.

Even more of the country is not politically or socially engaged in that way and couldn’t really describe anything about feminism let alone regurgitate stupid think pieces trending online. You really think working class people pay attention to half of this shit?

Ok. If women cared about the fame they would have also backed up Harvey Weinstein, Mel Gibson or I don’t know who else has been caught up in a scandal. But they didn’t, so it isn’t fame. Jonny Depp is not famous for being a particularly handsome man. You’ve seen Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise , you have to know Depp isn’t pretty, he’s just not ugly. He’s never been known for having a great body and he’s always been a bad dresser. So, not his looks. Nobody cares about an average couple in court, not just women.
As to women being jealous of Amber Heard? It’s ridiculous to believe that most women are jealous of pretty women. So jealous they would want to see an abused one vilified in public as a liar, just for the evil pleasure of seeing a pretty bitch go down. Grow up.

[–]Lanoir97 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Really not sure I want to engage with this, but here goes. I grew up with girls in my class swooning Johnny Depp. I’ve argued that he doesn’t have style but he can pull it off. I’d be mocked for years if someone got a picture of me in a cowboy hat and denim jacket. I can’t really judge who is or isn’t a good looking guy because it has no rhyme or reason to me. However, he’s got smooth looks and charm to boot. FWIW, I don’t think Brad Pitt has especially unique looks, along with any of the rest of the Hollywood Hotties.

I also don’t think Amber Heard is an especially beautiful woman. She’s certainly an attractive lady, and I would not say she’s ugly or anything of the sort. However, she’s not so unimaginably beautiful that I would think a sizable amount of women would be jealous of her.

[–]TheSnesLord 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If women cared about the fame they would have also backed up Harvey Weinstein, Mel Gibson or I don’t know who else has been caught up in a scandal.

Weinstein and Gibson, especially the former, are not exactly Brad Pitt (I use "Brad Pitt" as the high standard in looks just to quickly make my point). Also, Weinstein is also not an actor, he is a movie producer and not handsome so he won't have any female fans to begin with anyway.

Jonny Depp is not famous for being a particularly handsome man. You’ve seen Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise , you have to know Depp isn’t pretty, he’s just not ugly. He’s never been known for having a great body and he’s always been a bad dresser. So, not his looks.

If you think the guys you mentioned aren't about their looks then you either have you head buried in the sand; or you're being disingenuous; or you're really young and don't know that those guys were the absolute top tier "swoon-worthy" male actors of the past for girls and women.

Even though they have gotten older and lost their looks to some degree, they still have their aura/reputation of once being handsome and famous men.

Nobody cares about an average couple in court, not just women.

lol, no s**t Sherlock.

My point was IF an average couple's Court case was made public and focused on. Nice deflection attempt though.

As to women being jealous of Amber Heard? It’s ridiculous to believe that most women are jealous of pretty women.

It is well known that women are generally in competition with each other when it comes to the dating game, and that jealousy towards prettier women is a major factor. Remember, I said many women, not all women.

That is why you get feminists and many women who are screeching "objectification", "sexualization", "sexism" and "misogyny" at every corner whenever a sexy/attractive female character (usually if she shows too much skin) is produced and shown in fiction, entertainment media and events, such as Video Games, TV, Artwork, FanArt, Advertising, Commercials, Comics, Movies, Booth Babes, Grid Girls, Boxing Ring Girls, etc. and even god damn board games. Feminists and women will say they are whining and complaining to "respect" women, but it's jealousy at the root.

So jealous they would want to see an abused one vilified in public as a liar, just for the evil pleasure of seeing a pretty bitch go down.

It's possible. Have you not seen how utterly sick people can be on Social Media such as Twitter? And especially a lot of feminists and women on TikTok who basically spew misandry such as how they want average men to get sent to war to die.

One example many years ago a famous and beautiful female pr0n star named August Ames committed suicide, and the feminists and some women cheered her death on social media.

The same goes for another female pr0n star who also died before that which I forget the name of.

Grow up.

Coming from the same person who tried to throw drive-by ad hominem via a link and run away without being able to make an argument, lol.

[–]Canadian-female -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

8:00 am. Sorry, I just woke up. A lot of famous people have been involved in court cases, not just Weinstein, and fame in and of itself does not make the public want them to go free. I know who Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise are. Both have been praised for being especially good looking. I used them as an example of what Jonny Depp is not. His attractiveness comes from his attitude and aura and he’s just not that great looking. The idea that women would like an abuser because he’s good looking is twisted thinking . Chads right? Amber Heard is not in competition for dates with millions of women out there. We’re not all worried she’s going to steal our boyfriends. The idea that women are all jealous of each other and in a constant competition for men is a stereotypical idea of women . Yeah, some women are the jealous type but, I mean, she might as well live on another planet, it’s not like she’s ever going to be sitting in the same room with any of us and our boyfriends, so what’s the threat? Your anecdotes about feminists being happy a porn star died are just that, anecdotes. The discussion about an average couple in court is meaningless. It’s not happening and we don’t know how people would react. That’s just what you think would happen.

[–]Angryasfk 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

What are you raving on about?

There’s something about Johnny Depp that large numbers of women find massively attractive. Don’t ask me what it is. I’ve no idea. But it’s real. A lot seems to stem from his role on 21 Jump Street. But it goes further than that. I don’t really get it. But it’s real. Why pretend it isn’t?

[–]Canadian-female 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think it must be his coolness and the fact that he is a great actor. I’ve never thought he had a nice face. Fandom isn’t why women are backing him up, though, like a poster here suggested.

[–]Angryasfk 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think it has a lot to do with it.

There are legions of Johnny fans out there. Including 2 of my gf’s and probably my sister! As I mentioned elsewhere, he’s been a lust object for women for decades now, at least since 21 Jump Street. These women didn’t want to believe he really was a wife beater, this monster that Amber Heard claimed he was. And so they were ready to listen when he released his recordings of her screaming abuse and admitting to hitting him.

I agree that it’s the evidence that’s pushing much of this, but would so many women be willing to listen to the evidence if it weren’t Johnny Depp? Probably not.

Perhaps as a result of this, more women will be. We can but hope.

Body positivity?? What the….I……Where did that come from?

[–]Starmind0 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Literally what's so hard to get? You barked "neckbeard" and used it as an insult as if men having hair is bad or disgusting. We don't do that here hon

[–]Canadian-female-5 points 4 years ago [recovered] (17 children) | Copy Link

Have you never heard of neckbeards, baby cakes? Open the link. I was responding to his statement. It’s a neckbeardish statement because it sounds like he thinks women will like an abuser if he’s good looking or famous. That’s not true.

[–]Starmind0 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

I don't give a micro peep about your argument honey. I'm talking specifically about using "neckbeard" as an insult. I don't care if your little groups use it since it's clearly the new buzzword, but it's not an insult dear.

[–]Canadian-female-3 points 4 years ago [recovered] (15 children) | Copy Link

I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings, honeypie. It’s not a bad look! But…..you’ll just have to accept that if the letter and symbol r/ are before the word neckbeard , it’s an insult. It’s been a buzzword for a while and there’s nothing we can do about it now. Sorry you had to find out this way, swee’pea.

[–]Starmind0 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Has nothing to do with my feelings, but your ignorance and hypocrisy. I know you used it as an insult, oaf, but I'm saying it's not one to use it as one. Just because the other misandrists are blathering with their new buzzword it doesn't mean you should too, little thingling.

[–]djb1983CanBoy 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Youre a condescending sexist prick. Should i have put an r/ and that would have made it not an insult? Sugartits.

[–]terminalisolation 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Angryasfk 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That’s true. But something has to start the ball rolling. And a lust object for huge numbers of women, especially one who taped his abuser and false accuser incriminating herself is the best chance we’re likely to get, especially given the massive publicity and live viewing this case uniquely has.

Whatever else you can say about him, Depp has done men in general a great service by pursuing this, and not letting himself be slandered the way Vanity Fair and the rest claimed he should have.

[–]ultimate_smash[S] 31 points32 points33 points 4 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

lol, some people don't get the troll, this post highlights how feminists are hell-bent on supporting amber, even after she actively promotes violence against men while being the abuser all the time. Someone reposted this on r/DeppDelusion, how does these subs even exist? lol

Edit: that isn't a repost but even so this is ridiculous, how feminists think it is the truth XD

[–]GnomeChompy 29 points30 points31 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Whats ironic is that Amber is a woman beater too.

That's right. Feminists will literally defend women beaters, so long as they are publically aligned with feminist ideology. That's how much they hate men.

The press on unsubstantiated #MeToo allegations (by women): Believe all women. Presumption of innocence? Never heard of it! Witch trials? These men deserve it!

The press when men fight back: Hurting #MeToo. No one will just believe women without evidence anymore and that's bad! Whatever happened to the presumption of innocence? How dare men use the weapons of #MeToo (society) against women? As always, women are subject to witch trials. They have it so much worse than men!

”Being wrongly accused of rape is astonishingly rare. In fact, it rarely ever happens. The majority of sexual assault is not reported most of the time. But the ongoing mythology around false accusations prevents a lot of survivors from getting justice. Innocent men rarely get accused of abuse, but the Depp case could give the public more reasons to believe the opposite.”

They say that false rape accusations are vanishingly rare and reference this:

Other studies have figures in the same range. The FBI has put the number of "unfounded" rapes - those determined to be false after investigation - at 8%.

I got an even better one for you.

Let's say that there are no more false rape allegations, ALL allegations are true, BUT 8% of the time that a woman reports a rape, she is subsequently murdered by the person she reported. WOULD anyone call that event "RARE"? No, it would be declared a national emergency.

[–]ultimate_smash[S] 19 points20 points21 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

when you ask them which studies, exactly? look at them fumble, because there is no source other than their minds..

[–]MehowSri 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I haven't read the article but usually feminists quote the FBI figure here. However, this figure is the percentage of false accusations proven and in a similar range to convictions in rape charges. The 80 percent or so remainder could theoretically be both, but are always counted by feminists as unconvicted rapists.

[–]OnePieceFanBoi1 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Guess im part of the 8%

[–]TAPriceCTR 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If 8 percent proven false means false accusations are rare, then 5%proven true means rape is more rare than false accusations.

[–]skellious 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the author doesn't seem to even entertain the idea that she could be lying.

I think most people who claim to be victims aren't lying. but there will always be some who are lying, or exaggerating. they do exist and they ruin lives. the author seems to struggle with the idea that it's good to recognise that.

This article is incredible. How can you still stand with her

[–]anonymousmatt 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

TL:DR: I'm super long-winded, sorry. The author is correct that America will lose no matter what the jury decides. Their concern seemed to be that we should have a bias against those accused of committing DV and SA even where the weight of the evidence is in their favor. The author missed a great opportunity to reduce the negative impacts of this case by informing and educating her readership to seek justice through the courts rather than public opinion.

When I read the article, I was expecting the 'America loses no matter what the jury decides' to be referencing a totally different set of issues.

If JD wins, it will have a chilling effect on real victims coming forward with their story. Nearly everyone believes a true DV victim should be empowered to come forward with their truth - their story - and seek justice for how they've been wronged. However, watching a proclaimed DV victim be completely discounted as the aggressor and pathological liar would certainly make victims think twice about speaking up. If victims' become hesitant to seek justice, America loses.

The flip side of the coin is if the jury decides AH was the victim. In that case, a jury would have confirmed that if a woman accuses a man of DV or SA it is accepted as absolute fact no matter what evidence is provided to the contrary. Because of the publicity in this trial, it would cause the greater public to assume the cupability/guilt of a man with nothing more than the accusation of DV or SA. In other words, the jury may unintentionally destroy what is left of the idea, "innocent until proven guilty," so long as the accusation is grotesque and the accused is a man. (Note: The general public is poorly informed on civil vs statutory law and the difference in burden of proof for each. Technically, because JD brought the suit against AH it is his burden to prove his own innocence in court by a "preponderance of the evidence" (more likely than not he is right). What I'm speaking of is the ideology and values of public opinion.)

Imagine my disappointment to find the article is criticizing the disproportionate support for JD over AH. The article actually implies that we should assume JD is guilty and ignore the obvious indications that AH is likely being untruthful about everything. Victims (implying women claiming DV or SA) may be prevented from making public accusations that could financially or socially, devastate the accused without supporting evidence.

The author fails to share the knowledge that could spare her readership from losing with the rest of America.

1) The cost of making public statements about someone else's actions or character is the potential liability for the damages those statements have caused if you cannot prove the statements were true.

2) If you believe someone has harmed you (by criminal action or not), seek justice through the court system, not society. (Note: If you file suit for damages, make claims that you honestly to believe true, and the court determines there is insuffient evidence, the case will just be dismissed. No harm no foul.)

3) Those who accept accusation as fact without impartial consideration of contradicting evidence can do irreparable harm to an innocent party.

If the author were truly concerned about the damage this case will do to our society, they would have provided information or guidance to minimize that harm rather than attempt to shift the weight if it from one group to another. We should strive to eliminate prejudice and bias if we want everyone to have access to justice.

Liz Plank (author of the article) has raped and abused me.

Now go investigate my claim with the same standards of rape/abuse, she wants Amber Heard's claims to be investigated and believed.

Criminal standards can't differ based on sex-gender. If it is abuse when a man does it, it is equally abuse when a woman does it.

They all believe in equal rights until they have to share their kids 50/50, pay child support, pay alimony, or pay for opposing councils legal fees.

[–]tenchineuro 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Where is this feminist who believes in equal rights? It's not the author of this article.

  • Heard’s every gesture has been analyzed and scrutinized. Depp’s odd behavior? Not so much. The actor smiled, grinned and snacked on candy throughout the trial. Depp is either an abuser, or a victim of abuse. But his body language throughout this excruciating ordeal has remained casual, even cheerful. It would be hard to imagine Heard getting away with similar (even seeming) nonchalance.

  • Ultimately the jury will decide whom they believe is telling the truth. But I’m less interested in whether Heard is a liar and more interested in why so many people are gleefully invested in the idea that she might be. Millions of people seem suddenly interested in domestic violence — but only because there’s a chance a scorned and vengeful woman might be lying about it.

  • Being wrongly accused of rape is astonishingly rare. In fact, it rarely ever happens. The majority of sexual assault is not reported most of the time. But the ongoing mythology around false accusations prevents a lot of survivors from getting justice. Innocent men rarely get accused of abuse, but the Depp case could give the public more reasons to believe the opposite.

And where are the other feminists who believe in equal rights?

[–]neveragoodtime 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’d be smiling and eating candy if all the evidence in my trial was going as well as it is for him.

[–]Huffers1010 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have very little interest in the Heard/Depp trial, but on the subject of fake rape accusations:

The author refers to the very small numbers of rape accusations which are shown to be false, which the BBC article she links describes in terms such as "false rape accusations very rarely lead to convictions or wrongful jail time."

The issue here is that a man doesn't need to be convicted or jailed to have his life utterly destroyed by a well-publicised rape claim.

The overwhelming majority of rape claims are barely investigated and never go to trial simply because the most of them are impossible to prosecute. These will not show up in those statistics. That's true no matter how seriously we take someone's claim that she or (in some jurisdictions) he has been raped, and nobody has to like that reality for it to be true. I don't like the fact that rape is very hard to prosecute. I'm sure most of the people reading this don't. I'm sure we'd all be willing to work hard to support any initiative that had a realistic chance of improving the situation within the framework of reasonable jurisprduence.

But there's a difference between the number of rape claims made which are never shown to be true, and the number of rape claims made which are definitively shown to be false, which is not the same thing.

IIt is So funny to read all the hate towards this woman who stood up for herself in such a horrible situation how angry you all are when all she did was try to stand up for herself and instead of getting support she gets all this Johnny Depp tried to sue multiple people for ruining his career before her she's the third person he has sued maybe 4th actually for ruining his career as he says However he's never actually tried to do Disney who is the one who took him out of the franchise lol. But I love it thank you guys for making me laugh as a male who respects women it's kind of crazy to see what you go off of based on here say and what you think people seem like in their testimony lol you don't know these people I don't know these people there's no way for you or I just say what happened other than to watch it in the videos that Amber filmed of Mr Deb being himself period but I hope you guys feel better it seems like you're just angry at life and I feel bad for you. It will get better if you want it to you just got to try a little bit and focus on your life rather than other people's lives he don't even know. All I know is Johnny Depp was an asshole and I met him so I don't know I mean I only hung out with him a few times but still I wouldn't make assumptions based off of those few times maybe he had a bad day or was still in character or something so I can't really judge either way but I love how you guys call people feminist as if that's a name like an asshole or something a feminist is just someone who once equal rights for women I don't understand why that's so upsetting to you? For the first time ever we just got equal rights for pay for women in soccer Does that make sense to you that it wasn't equal before? Why should women be treated with less respect then men question mark This is coming from a heterosexual male with a fiance so I'm curious what can get someone so upset to this point.

There's a science to the intelligence of a collective. If you've ever watched who wants to be a millionaire, you'll notice that whenever the crowd is pooled for the answer the vast majority are correct. So when you're talking about pooling the internet collective opinion on an incredibly well documented, heavily syndicated court case it's probably pretty safe to assume that we either all got the same feeling, or we are all a bunch of sexists.

Will let this lady decide
