TLDR: the title. I’ve always know how to stay silent and hold my tongue to my mother and those topics, but it still bothers me and kinda hurts to keep it down, so how do I just not let it affect me at all?

So today I got into an argument with my mother who is a feminist. The argument actually started when she brought up a response I said to a few weeks ago when she said “men are dangerous, raise your boys” in a conversation with a relative. I said that women should raise both their daughters and sons, and that people ignore male victims and dangerous women. She said that I shouldn’t be offended and she brought up that it’s common for men to harm women, and that I should look up statistics. She told me off during that small encounter, but she brought up the topic again today, and during that conversation, we obviously disagreed about some things such as patriarchy and how men cause xyz, and how men don’t care about other male victims, how sexism can’t happen to men and that feminist can’t be sexist, etc, and we progressively shouted at each other, and she said that I was centering myself, but in the end, we left off on good terms I guess and I apologized for if I did invalidate her (but I still feel shitty and that’ll just have to keep holding in my tongue. I don’t even think I got my point across) and she apologized back for the same, but added that I shouldn’t disagree with facts or invalidate others. The thing is that I’m always silent about any topic of feminism or racism with my mom when she speaks of it, like when my mother watches feminist TikToks on speaker while we are in the car, even if they say stuff like “men ain’t shit, y’all trash”.

No matter if I disagree I always just held my tongue and ignored it because I was afraid to argue irl and potentially end on bad terms. I would usually just put on my headphones and listen to music to ignore it, but this was the first I’ve ever argued with her like that, hell, that first short encounter I mentioned earlier was the first time I ever directly defied my mother, but otherwise I just never speak. I don’t think I’ll ever agree with feminism’s beliefs or how feminist may treat men, or agree with my mother on certain topics and beliefs, but I need to know how to go on without feeling the need to always hold my tongue with these topics when facing live people, including my mother, because in the end I know that I’ll just go right back to holding my tongue even after I apologized, so Instead I ask, how do I not let it affect me? I don’t want this to happen again.
