Absolutely no one should say "I don't know how to cook" in 2023.
Any recipe you could ever make is right at your fingertips.
If you know how to read, you know how to cook.
[–]imivaniRed Pill Man 9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link
Cooking isn’t even hard. Just literally follow a recipe like you said. How are people unable to boil pasta and add a jar of spaghetti sauce at the minimum? Lol
[–]RocinanteCoffee 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link
Pasta I make is almost always undercooked or overcooked. Don't ask me why. Practice often but doesn't always make perfect.
All the men and women in my family can cook beautifully, I just don't have that ability and after more than a decade of working on it I'm fine moving on to other things.
[–]SliptheLust, Thrust, Bust and Dust 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Step one - boil water
Step two - set a timer
[–]RocinanteCoffee 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I watch it like a hawk and do all these things. Always ends up too tender or too firm.
I'll eat it myself under duress but it's not something I would foist upon others.
[–]Cavendishelous 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
How much variation can there really be when you set a timer for the same amount each time?
If I were a complete autist I could conduct an experiment on this myself, but I am still 99% sure that the variance of the data set would be very low.
I think you’re making some kind of mistake. I mean honestly how do you have the audacity to assume that physics and thermodynamics have a specific vendetta against you?

I’m so confused how this is possible
It’s pasta
Not soufflé
[–]RocinanteCoffee 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Heh my sisters and father and mother were also confused.
[–]JosieSandiePurple Pill Woman 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Literally just stand over it and test the texture every 30 seconds
[–]OpeningInner483 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Its better to be too firm since you can boil it in the pasta sauce again after draining it till it becomes al dente, with the sauce soaked in.
Also, if its too soft, you can stir fry the noodles to save it.
[–]rootsnyder 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Wrong
[–]platinirismsBlackpill 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Buy pasta
Boil water
Once water is boiled, add pasta
Set timer on your phone to ring after the time it says on the back of the pasta packaging.
Once timer goes off, drain pasta
It’s literally that simple.
[–]RocinanteCoffee 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link
For a lot of people yes. Most women my age can make pasta regardless of the Twitter memes.
I am someone for whom pasta turns out shitty basically every time.
Again I've studied this for many years with both paid professionals and the very skilled amateur chefs in my entire family. It didn't take.
Some things aren't just meant to be. I'm not going to continue putting time and money into something for no reason.
I eat nutritious healthy foods and have great reverence for talented chefs whether professional or amateur. I don't have and am not going to have children (not that having children would mean that I would be the only person responsible for feeding them anyway) and no man or other person who I would date or otherwise share meals with would expect me to cook for him.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I genuinely don’t know what you mean when you say you can’t make pasta.
Boil. Add pasta. Timer. Drain.
[–]RocinanteCoffee 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah again I've done it. Practiced for years both with professionals and skilled amateurs. It still turned out bad every time (too over done/too underdone).
It's okay though. I have other skills and I still eat very well.

I don’t believe you
[–]platinirismsBlackpill 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sounds like weaponised incompetence to me.
For those who don’t know, it’s when you purposely fail at a task so other people never let you attempt that task again under the guise that he just ‘can’t do it’. “Oopsy, my pasta is over cooked again, doink, I can’t ever understand this cooking thing”, then his wife cooks all his meals while he watches football.
[–]Obvious-Beautiful89 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Take one pasta. Cool it under water. Taste it. If you dont want to taste it. Throw it at wall. If it sticks. It is perect. After some times cooking pasta. You learn when pasta is ready when you mix it with fork when boiling. Its not rocket science
[–]RocinanteCoffee 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
I mean I am still pretty young and I suck at it. Everyone in my family can cook except for me. I studied and practiced since I was eleven years old and for the most part didn't get better at it. I've had professional classes as well. It didn't help.
The definition of insanity is trying the same thing again and again and expecting different results.
That being said, I have never, ever met anyone like me in this respect. Most people can cook.
I don't have expensive hobbies and I rarely drink so I spend my money on letting professional chefs do the work for me/meal prep services that deliver, and meals that don't require a lot of stovetop or oven chemistry.
Also a higher percentage of men have tattoos compared to women and half of everyone in the (US) under 40 are tattooed.
One of the advantages of technology and modernity is that arduous or boring tasks can sometimes be automated or outsourced. My monthly food budget is barely more than many people who make a lot less than I do so it's not impractical to do it the way I do.
That being said a lot of my fellow zoomers and millennials do a LOT of cooking and experimenting. But a person's value is not in whether they can cook or not as long as they can still eat and properly feed those they are responsible to.

Having a girlfriend these days means you’ll either be eating out or enjoying some nice homemade chef boyardee. What is her value? Don’t let the sex bot be a can opener too because it’s about to surpass alot of modern women.

So having a girlfriend means you forget how to cook?
Don’t let the sex bot be a can opener too because it’s about to surpass alot of modern women.
So if a woman opens cans for you, then you can cook?
[–]RocinanteCoffee 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Lmao, you're acting like the onus of cooking should be on the woman and it has anything to do with her value.
My mother and sisters are talented gardeners and chefs, but their boyfriends and spouses are also good at it too. They share the load.
[–]Preme2 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That’s nice that your mother and sisters can cook and garden. A lot of modern women can’t do either. Serving up hot cardboard. Bon appetit.
That’s nice that your mother and sisters can cook and garden.
And it's also nice that my father and my sisters' boyfriend/husband can too!
A lot of modern women can’t do either.
Plenty do. And happily it's likely a much higher percentage of young men have learned to cook in younger generations compared to their fathers and grandfathers.
[–]windowsfrozenshut 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think a lot more modern women know how to cook than we think, they just refuse to ever cook for a man.

Oh man PPD white people moment detected.
No, reading a recipe and completing it doesn't mean you know how to cook. It means you know how to read a recipe and complete it.
Cooking is done by methods not instructions.

I don't know anyone under thirty who can't cook. I do however know a man who got divorced in his 40s and allegedly could not make beans on toast. (By his own omission)
When my mother and father broke up my dad struggled to make decent food, but he could at least stick something in the oven.

Now we’re getting somewhere. Any stats on cooking in this generations? One thing I’ve realized is that many of our grandparents were actually part of the TV dinner generation and the internet has reintroduced millennials to cooking from scratch.
[–]RocinanteCoffee 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

In another point fast food workers should be paid more. Food establishments should be about feeding people, not about profit.

Food and water production and processing is literally the most important part of the economy and society. Without food and water no one survives and everything else fails. If you don't work in these fields then you're of lesser importance than them.

There is no boss without workers, no lords without serfs, no kings without subjects. You've been brainwashed by society into believing people who are dependant on others are on top, and deserve to be in charge even though they produce nothing themselves.

This is one thing which really blew my mind when I was dating in 30's
I can cook, all of my male friends can cook. Some of us are even great at cooking.
Majority of women which I was dating only knew how to microwave food... some didn't knew how to scramble an egg O.o
[–]CommodoreFalcon 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yep, I'm in my 20s and have noticed this too. All my male friends can cook, as can I. But the women I know in this age bracket, I'd say the majority can't cook and live off microwave meals and takeaways.
No wonder there's so many fat women in the under 30 bracket if they're living off takeaways and microwave meals...

[–]ApprehensiveFig97331 points 3 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]Alert_Iron_6744 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Fake news. A good mile time is just better than your old one, or for many, running the whole mile is already better than their previous time. Two twenty minute runs would show improvement; that’s similar in time to your first tattoo.

While I'm a liberal and not a tradcon and thus can't speak for the latter, I'd point out that the idea that only tradcons would have a distaste for tattoos is very far from the truth.
Now don't get me wrong, I think everybody is and should be free to do what they want with their own body (independently of my preferences or whether I think it's a shitty idea or not to do it), but that doesn't change the fact that In my view:
