I think the main problem is how people think of bullying. Most people think of bullying as someone taking the other kids lunch money, giving swirlies, giving wedgies, name calling, etc. Most people wouldn't think of "covert" bullying as actualy bullying.

Totally not surprised, my experience growing up boys would get into fights and that would be the end of it or if it wasen't it would easily be seen by teachers and be broken up.

Girls how ever would hold grudges, spread mean rumours and could totally wreck another students life with out ever being seen to be doing anything.

This is all pretty well known. Almost every study on school bullying has shown similar sex differences in bullying.

The most interesting thing was:

Kids living with a single mother reported the highest rates of bullying – 68 per cent – compared to the 57 per cent of children living with both parents.

No mention of single father families (that would be interesting to compare), but here's clear evidence that children in single mother homes are less well adjusted. I highly doubt they are being bullied for being in a single mother home, but rather they are being bullied because they aren't able to fit in with the other students very well.

The same study also says boys excel at violent bullying and physical abuse.

The study just says what we already know: boys bully other kids with their fists and girls bully other kids with their words (generally anyhoo).

I don't see what is so surprising here (or what it has to do with Men's Rights :/)

I think both genders excel at finding ways to humiliate others.

For me personally though, it wasn't the kids throwing skittles at my face or calling me names that hurt the most. It was the girls who made fun of my tattered shoes, or just giggled along with the boys who kicked bottles at me.

The report does seem to make the statistics seem more different than they really are. 17% of girls were victims of 'note writing' but "only" 12% of boys... yeah, huge gap (end sarcasm).

That said, the study proves something important - much of the gender difference is window dressing. Boys may bully more openly and physically and girls may bully more manipulatively and quietly but the basic mechanisms, the pack-mentality and in-group behavior, are the same (with the exception that girls who are the Alpha Bitch aren't seen as "better women" than their female victims... whereas with men, the bully-hierarchy is gendered and the struggle is for REAL MANHOOD GAAAAARRR... this may actually explain the overt nature of bullying between men, since there are more social status rewards on offer in the male context and also the methods of bullying matter significantly for attaining these rewards).

Men and women aren't as different 'deep down' as some people claim.

Unfortunately, and this is me being cynical here, I'm sure some people will see this article and think its TRAGIC how mean and petty girls are being, but not bat an eyelid over bullying between young males because "boys will be boys."

I had a female bully at school. She wasn't the worst, but it often felt that way. When confronted with a boy saying a girl did something to him, and a girl crying saying the boy pushed her over, guess who is getting the blame.

Teachers (at least in my experience) know this only too well.

Boys will fight, steal each others stuff, ruin each others games, hit each other and then be friends at the end of the day. Girls will act all nicey nicey (avoiding the gaze of the teacher who is trying to manage 30+ other kids) and employ tactics such as "Do this or no one will be friends with you". It's much more sinister and much harder to detect.

Sweeping generality I must add. There are boys that are master manipulators and girls that are rough and violent too, but this is the general trend I see.

Well yeah, it's common knowledge that a lot of middle school aged girls are cruel. Doesn't everyone know this? I'm a girl and though I didn't do this, I was the victim many a time and my mom would just tell me "girls are mean at this age," because it's true, there are weird hormones and jealousy and gossip going around and it's just a very hard time to be a kid.

Don't blame the gender though, if I may ask that much. It is certain people who do this, not girls.

We don't need studies to tell us this. Even if you look at children, little girls are usually more devious than little boys. Louis CK did a bit on this. Boys will mess shit up and break shit, and you'll know they did it. They're upfront, simple. "I don't like you so I'm going to punch you." Girls don't leave a print. They're like supervillains. They're complex. They know exactly how to get inside someone's head and cause the maximum amount of pain without ever being caught.

So girls use socialization to bully and men use their fists. Wowee. Women have different tactics for bullying because they are physically weaker, and their brains are far more developed emotionally. So the games they play are definitely gonna be different. Men's Rights is getting dumber by the day. This is not a Men's Rights issue because they mainly do it to other girls...
