Something I always found interesting about this case: Heard was arrested - not accused, arrested - for domestic violence in 2009, against her then partner Tasya van Ree - a woman, so it can't be brushed off in the way a woman attacking a male partner would.

Now, let me be clear: I'm not saying that being arrested for DV means that she can't be a victim of it herself, or that Depp is innocent without a shadow of a doubt. But in this era of public and professional figures losing careers or suffering damage to their image over, say, stupid jokes they may have said or posted online years ago, or unproven/outright fale accusations of various things, etc. etc. where were the petitions and #campaigns to have Heard stripped of her role in the DC movies? Like when Depp was cast in that Harry Potter film? Not a peep.

[–]EricAllonde[S] 29 points30 points31 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. Double standards abound.

[–]Sea-Bot 18 points19 points20 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There needs to be a #hertoo movement, making sure that women committing domestic violence, sexual assault, false accusations, child abuse Etc are all brought to public shame.

Women should be especially on board if the violence is against other women or girla, like in the case you mentioned.

Everyone is so careful to include all types of relationships into conversation and focus these days, except when it comes to being accused of anything. Then we forget that heterosexual males aren't a part of every relationship.

[–]rationalthought314 24 points25 points26 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Heard was arrested - not accused, arrested - for domestic violence in 2009, against her then partner Tasya van Ree - a woman, so it can't be brushed off in the way a woman attacking a male partner would.

Feminists tend to ignore the fact that lesbian couples have a significantly higher rate of domestic abuse - emotional and physical - than heterosexual and homosexual couples.

[–]saikon_1485 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

i wonder, is there a scientific explaination for why lesbians are more prone to dv than heterosexual couples...

[–]rationalthought314 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't know about scientific but from a societal perspective many women are raised being the center of attention or competing for it. We have a society where women's violence is either encouraged as sexy or laughed off. They are used to hitting guys and not getting hit back in return so you put two women raised in this environment of little repercussion for their violence together and they both wail away without restraint not understanding why the other person isn't just taking it.

[–]pvtshoebox 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Couple that with the idea that female proclamations of victimhood are positively reinforced. A minority of women across the whole LGBT spectrum do not appreciate their own capacity for violent harm. When those women are violent with frmale partners, though, it is conaidered by the partner and by society at large to be a bigger deal.

Do we know if lesbians are more violent, or is it simply that lesbian victims report at higher rates than hetero men due to social pressures and biases?

[–]sakura_drop 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm sure there was at least one study linked on the sub not too long ago. I've been unable to find it, unfortunately, but I do remember being surprised by the findings.

[–]purpleblossom 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Very true. Heard's only evidence that Depp was "violent" was video taken during an argument they were having where he was throwing things because he was so angry, and he is known for his outbursts, but he's also never before this been known to physically hurt anyone either. Should be noted that witnesses say the argument was started by Heard and that Depp kept trying to avoid it.

[–]antprince 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She may well be a lying bitch.

[–]purpleblossom 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh she very much is, she's been caught in countless lies regarding her first marriage and the false accusation of abuse she claimed on him, as well as Depp now.

[–]OnTheSlope 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I've seen that video, he doesn't throw anything, he slams some cupboards and he slams a wine glass on a counter, it may have been scary for her to experience but he didn't throw anything, he didn't touch her and he didn't even invade her personal space.

[–]YaBasicDudedas 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She was even egging him on. Like asking whats the matter... Oh come on if you didn't want to get yelled at or harassed you would back away. She even pointed out about how the wine was almost empty from him drinking so much. SHE WANTED TO GET HIT. SHE WANTED THAT TANTRUM.

[–]purpleblossom 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The video I was talking about was outside, not indoors, and at a party overlooking LA where he was several feet away from her. I've only heard of that footage but it was the second video released, and by then it was clear that she was lying so I never watched.

Didn’t Disney have the knee jerk reaction of taking him off the Pirates franchise before any sort of investigation was done?

[–]LateNightTestPattern 114 points115 points116 points 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

?Wasn't he in about 5 of those? I'd call it a win if Disney killed that franchise.

[–]cy1999aek_maik61 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (9 children) | Copy Link

Well he was the face of the franchise wasn't he? I thought Jack Sparrow was the highlight of those movies

[–]LateNightTestPattern 16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yes. But I don't think they filmed one without him. If that's what you're saying.....

[–]amedeus 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No, but they're rebooting the franchise without him, now.

This article doesn't indicate whether these allegations are false or not, just that she made them.

It's in very poor taste that for appearance purposes she released the joint statement that the marriage was loving and passionate then comes out that he's abusive. Something there is a lie and she hasn't substantiated the claims of abuse (at least I didn't see any evidence in the article). Claiming that it's the patriarchy that's blocking you after making such a stupid statement is, in itself, just as stupid. For all I know they divorced because he couldn't be with someone that couldn't tell the difference between a Zimbabwe dollar and an American dollar. The point being that she says one thing and then slander him with no proof. Who the fuck wants to pay to hire her for the drama. You can hire another actress that doesn't come with that kind of baggage and stupidity. It's not that they're protecting men it's that they're protecting their money. You don't want her getting the lead male in a movie arrested mid-shoot.

Regarding the threats they go both ways. I'm sure he's getting them too from her fans but she just assumes it's the patriarchy and only women get death threats.

The other thing that bugs me is she's awarded $7M as a 32 year old professional when he's closer to the standard retirement age at 55 years old. Then she goes and donates part of that 7M she took.

I just wish I could see his face when he saw that announcement. "That bitch and her lawyer took me for 7M and argued she needed it to survive then gives the money away".

You can't make this stuff up.

Edit: I think this article tells the time line and story a bit better https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/aug/16/amber-heard-assault-allegations-johnny-depp-divorce

The question remains basically whether she and her friend lied to get more money or if her claims are true. We've seen videos of women on this sub hitting themselves with hammers so they can go to the cops. Of course the home is a private place where witnesses of abuse happening live is nearly impossible. Either way it seems he resolved it by paying her off whether it was true or not. Anecdotally my aunt is a gold digger who married for money. He paid her off and she still came back to try and get more. The divorce was also 100% her own fault which I hate to say about my own family.

[–]mountaingirl2254 points 7 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

I also think it was I interesting that Depp had no prior record of domestic violence, and two (iirc) ex wives came out in support of him and said it was simply not in character and he had never been anything close to abusive or violent. He’s 55 he’s been in relationships for over 30 years in the public eye and no one ever said anything? I know victims of abuse don’t speak out that much but the fact that the exes later came forward to defend him says a lot.

[–]amisamiamiam22 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Divorce court is a mudslinging fest and she slung mud first. That's the sad truth. Once those allegations are made they chase you for years, either professionally or mentally. Unfounded? Sorry guilty until proven dead. They never go away.

She's a little princess who confuses being unhappy and having a terrible marriage with abuse. Poor thing.

Didn't she come to court with a black eye (not swollen) but was seen the next day with clear skin?

[–]Ninja_Arena 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, was gonna say, were they false or just un-proovable? Something seemed up about her accusations especially that they seemed one sided and they were probably both guilty of the same stuff but no proof she lied, just didn't prove her case

[–]BittyMitty 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There is a tax avoidance scheme trough making donations.
So it wouldn't surprise me too much.

[–]RapidFireSlowMotion 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not really a scheme if the charity actually gets the money, it's a legitimate donation.

Still a little weird with the whole "agreed to donate" anyway

[+]GreyFox860 -13 points-12 points-11 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Serious question for those downvoting. Is it faster for you to ask me for a link of the video and then wait for me to reply with the said link whenever it’s convenient for me to do so. Or is just googling “Johnny Depp throws phone” faster?

[–]dronningmargrethe 25 points26 points27 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's faster to downvote you.

[–]GingerRazz 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It's faster for one person who mentioned it to link it than it is for everyone who ever sees this thread in the future to have to work to substantiate someone else's claim.

[–]GreyFox860 -5 points-4 points-3 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I mean, your on the internet already... just open up a 2nd tab.

[–]GingerRazz 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I mean, I get you. I agree it would be very easy for one person to look things up, but it's typically considered good internet etiquette to provide sources for claims you make rather than telling people to Google it.

In fact you probably could have put up the link yourself in a fraction of the time you've spent saying things since then.

Edit:. Look at it this way, if 100 people see this thread, it's far easier to have the link here than to expect everyone who sees it to Google your claim.

[–]GreyFox860 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed, I even only commented on here to drop what I though was common knowledge. Typically I would drop a link if I was more invested. Maybe it just rubbed me the wrong way. Someone asking for a link for multiple news articles that can be found by a quick google search just felt like the ultimate millennial moment. We have the vast ocean of the internet at our fingertips but we’re too lazy to put the effort in looking for relevant information. We just absorb what our news feeds cram down our throats on a daily basis.

[–]Rufert 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In the time you spent arguing, you could have googled the phrase yourself and backed up your claim.

But sure, continue to argue.

[–]Nergaal 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's a video of her secretly filming him with a phone that's sitting on a kitchen worktop (you see her adjusting it, she's not holding it) while winding him up. At no point in the footage I've seen does the phone capture an incoming Heard head.

It's in very poor taste that for appearance purposes she released the joint statement that the marriage was loving and passionate then comes out that he's abusive.

She still maintains that he abused her and Depp's attorney never backed up the statement her attorney released after their divorce, just kept calling it a joint statement anywhere.

Explaining that she rarely left her apartment for fear of being hounded, she added: 'I felt as though I was on trial in the court of public opinion - and my life and livelihood depended on myriad judgments far beyond my control.'

Welcome to the world #metoo created.

I suspect that she's exaggerating the career effects though, apparently it's OK for female actresses to sexually assault or assault their husbands/BFs.

[–]EricAllonde[S] 90 points91 points92 points 7 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Yes. The only reason it was even in the "court of public opinion" is because she made her accusation public. What's happening is exactly what she planned, she just wanted and expected it to happen to Depp instead of her, but it backfired on her.

LMAO. You know what never fails to crack me up? how both men and women assume you're an incel hating on women when you bash someone (well, a woman. A woman bashing a male would never be called an incel- how is that?). Number 1- Not everybody is an incel- you can be a woman-hater AND be fucking polygamous at one and the same time. You need to try and shake off your stereotypical view of the world- not everybody can be pigeonholed into sharply defined categories -White supremacist, Incel etc- when their views tend to be more extreme or run against the grain. Number 2- and Here's the twist- I'm actually a woman. And yes, she's a thot.

What does commenting “THOT” do for this conversation. And I’ll bash anyone that tries to use a gender-based insult. You call a man a dirty pig? I’ll tell you to shut the fuck up. No you shut the fuck up, this isn't a safe space. The same thing saying that this isn't an Incel women hating subreddit does: nothing. And yet you still said it. How is calling a man a dirty pig a gender based insult? Can women not be dirty pigs? Are you saying that's exclusively a male insult? Kinda sexist yo. I doubt you're 15. Prove it.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

of Course you highly doubt it since there's no proof. How do you want me to prove it? A picture? That wouldn't prove anything. besides, I try to maintain maximum anonymity on the internet, so I wouldn't just hand over the kind of personal information that would prove I'm a woman. But you're right- even though I absolutely think Amber Heard is a 'thot', just dropping insults doesn't lead to anything productive. I take it back.

Yes. As time goes by it stands to reason more will. Maybe a lesson will be learned. But I'm only hopeful. Not convinced.

Feminists don't learn lessons. They manipulate and cry until they get their way.

And even when they don't, they double down on the stupid and blame men anyways.

Well you know what? That's exactly how falsely accused men feel and that's exactly what she was trying to do to Johnny. She's just pissed the outcome was against her and is too stupid to understand that she won't win against a guy like that without lots of evidence.

In the absence of substantiating evidence, contradictory reports from the accuser, and insistence on making a public display of the accusation by the accuser I can only assume she's lying.

It will never be proven false because the police will never investigate it that way. VAWA training and the Duluth Model both put protocols in place forbidding the police from enforcing the law in these situations.

[–]Rogdozz 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

I can only assume she’s lying.

Isn’t that the same as when people assume someone is a rapist just because he’s being accused, and without him having been persecuted by a court yet?

Innocent until proven guilty? Ever heard of it?

[–]dejour 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In the absence of evidence, we should give both of them the benefit of the doubt.

Depp shouldn't be assumed to be an abuser.

Heard shouldn't be assumed to be a liar.

Admittedly, they can't both be true. However, it is the only fair way to treat people.

[–]Shity_Balls 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That applies to being innocent of making a false rape accusation as well. The claims are supposed to be considered unsubstantiated allegations, not false allegations. If you start saying that she is lying, now you have to provide evidence to prove it. You don’t assume anything is false, you categorize it as unsubstantiated until evidence is produced proving or disproving the claim. This Is all in regard to how our court of law is supposed to operate.

[–]Rogdozz -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Yes. So why should we assume that she’s guilty of lying?

[–]NinjasInMyBasement12 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (9 children) | Copy Link

We have two conflicting ideas:

  1. He abused her
  2. She is lying (or stretching the truth)

The burden of proof is on the accuser, and because of this, this is a binary outcome. Until she can prove he did anything, he is innocent, and she lied (ir stretched the truth)

This is the post MeToo world we live in. The court of public opinion rules all. The damage is done. Because in a perfect world, you are right. BOTH parties should be given the benefit of the doubt, however we put our society in a place where we publicize every court case ever so that the average citizen can be their own judge, which is a poor idea due to the fact that we don’t get to see the evidence.

Besides, what do you like will do more damage?

Assuming he is a wife beater? Or assuming a known “diva” lied.

Being known to lie, you can still find work elsewhere.

Being known as a wife beater, not so much.

[–]Rogdozz 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

There are more than 2 options. We can also just say “we don’t know if he’s guilty, and we don’t know if she lied”. If a judge assumed she was lying he would throw her in jail

This has nothing to do with metoo, it’s just common sense. Metoo is about rape victims coming out, not about the justice system

[–]tenchineuro 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Are you really that delusional? People get jailed for falsely reporting crimes all the time.

It's very rare for a woman to be tried, it does not happen all the time.

Regarding Mary...

  • Mary Zolkowski, 21, was sentenced to 45 days in jail after pleading guilty to fabricating a story about being sexually assaulted in a parking lot at Delta College in Bay County, MLive.com reported.

  • Judge Joseph Sheeran, who also ordered the woman receive a mental health assessment, did not give Zolwolski credit for previous time served.

  • Sheeran deferred the woman to an additional 220 days in jail, which she'll only have to serve if she violates probation, according to the news outlet. She will be on probation for two years after her jail term. Zolwolski will also have to be tested for drugs and alcohol and partake in substance abuse counseling.

It does not appear that she accused a man here, but her sentence is unusually long (45 days) and she will also probably get mental heath counseling. As I said previously, most of the few women who are tried get suspended sentences. The men they (usually) accuse face decades in prison.

She brought an unfalsifiable accusation to the court of public opinion prior to bringing it to an actual court and only gave the police an account of what happened after being pressured by the public she had tried to manipulate(it was manipulation regardless of the accuracy of the claims). She has no substantiating evidence and has acted the same way liars do when they try to incite uninformed mobs to rally around their story.

The point I was making is that I cannot in good conscience believe her accusation is anything other than a lie since she was the one that brought this into the court of public opinion.

[–]Rogdozz 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That’s okay. But then it’s also okay to assume someone is a rapist if it clearly looks like he is, even if it hasn’t been verified by any court yet

Depp is a deranged alcoholic who was spending more money than he was earning in his peak years.

Why anyone is willing to give the benefit of the doubt to a man who's run out on his family, had epic, alcohol induced meltdowns on various sets, and who we know has a massive ego problem is beyond me.

Every single piece of the puzzle points to the fact that he probably is abusive and she just doesn't have proof.

Anyone spending $30k per month on wine is immediately untrustworthy. He tried to sue his managers for defrauding him out of money he spent himself on shit he didn't need and couldn't even remember buying.

The rumor is that Disney wanted to fire him because of his on set behavior (Alcoholism) and this was just a convenient excuse. They were reading him his lines through an earpiece for most of the Pirates franchise because he was too drunk to remember them.

[–]PangKun 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Based on the statement of his ex wife he wasn't abusive at all. She said quite the opposite. Him drinking wine doesn't mean he beats his wife? A court case is based on evidence which there was a lack of. "Probably" doesn't cut it.

[–]nisaaru 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

360k a year for his assumed income should be peanuts. Probably got into the habit while living in France where consuming it daily is pretty common. With the price range of wines I wouldn't make the assumption of him drinking him into stupidity just by his wine bill.

I've only read about this very lightly, is there proof that her allegations are indeed false? I know about their joint statement of the relationship being "passionate and at times volatile, but always driven by love", but aside from him denying that he's ever abused her, that's all I can find.

Was it ever confirmed whether or not Depp abused her at all, verbally or physically?

Edit: I am not saying that I think it's up to Depp to prove to anyone that he did not abuse Heard. OP claims that Heard's allegations are false. I am asking if there is hard evidence anywhere that her allegations are, in fact, false, or if is there is any proof that her allegations are, without question, true.

/u/j3utton is correct: If there is no evidence proving that the allegations are either undoubtedly true or undoubtedly false, one cannot make the claim that "Heard has falsely accused Depp of abusing her" , nor can they claim that "Depp has abused Heard".

I was simply asking if there had been evidence found to back up OP's claim that the allegations are false.

[–][deleted] 51 points52 points53 points 7 years ago (60 children) | Copy Link

Yeah you got it backwards. The burden of proof is on her.

[–]j3utton 39 points40 points41 points 7 years ago* (54 children) | Copy Link

Yes, the burden of proof is on the accuser, but the absence of proof does not mean the allegations are false. Sometimes there just isn't proof, one way or the other, and we're left with he said/she said. In that situation those allegations are just allegations and they're going to stay allegations absent new information.

However, when someone qualifies those allegations as false, they are now making a new allegation about the initial allegations. The burden of proof - of proving the allegations are actually false - is on them.

Edit: Unsubstantiated Allegations are very different from False Allegations.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Are there enough facts to convict on either end should be the only thing that matters.

But even when there is plenty of evidence that the accusation was false (look at what's happening in the UK), prosecutors rarely take the woman to court. Further, he is facing a felony and her crime against the state is usually a misdemeanor or at worst some class C felony with a 1 year max sentence, which is usually suspended.

The current system is screwed because too much emphasis is placed on accusation.

I think the emphasis should be on protecting the innocent party, but apparently that makes one a misogynist.

Are there enough facts to convict on either end should be the only thing that matters.

While I agree in principle, when the woman's bare unsupported word is enough to put a man in prison for 20 years, and all that matters is that she tell a convincing story, the facts of the matter are irrelevant.

You are accusing her of a crime: false police report

A false rape report is not a crime, and it is not a crime against the man accused.

When you do that the burden of proof is on you.

Only the prosecutor can do this and the man has no standing as he is not the victim when a false rape accusation is made, the state is the victim.

How are you so stupid that you can't see the difference between "insufficient evidence" and "she's lying"?

Even if it could be proven that she lied she has not committed a crime against the man.

Dude stop being dense. You are accusing her of a crime: false police report, perjury, whatever. When you do that the burden of proof is on you.

If he says he's innocent, he has not accused anybody of a crime. And making a false rape accusation is not even a crime per se.

A man cannot accuse a woman of making a false rape accusation as making rape accusations is not illegal. And the man is not legally even the victim of a false rape accusation, he has no standing as a victim of a crime. Only the prosecutor can try the woman, and that for a crime against the state.

How are you so stupid that you can't see the difference between "insufficient evidence" and "she's lying"?

All allegations are unsubstantiated until proven true or false. You aren't guilty unless the allegations are proven true. But we also don't know the allegations are false unless they are proven false. There are situations where people are guilty, yet they go free because the burden off proof could not be met.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. You do know this, correct?

[–]tenchineuro -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Theoretically, an absence of evidence should be a bar to a jury trial I would think. But in the case of a rape accusation a woman's totally unsupported word is enough to put a man in prison for 20 years. And women often make false DV accusations in divorce proceedings, the man gets thrown out of the house and the woman gets the house, custody and maintenance.

So in a legal sense, I think this is dangerous thinking, at lease for men.

Also, was not Johnny Depp in the process of a divorce?

However, when someone qualifies those allegations as false, they are now making a new allegation about the initial allegations. The burden of proof - of proving the allegations are actually false, is now on them.

I'm discussing how our criminal justice system is "supposed" to work and the philosophy behind it.

No, you are not, it is never the legal responsibility of the accused to prove their innocence.

And claiming one's innocence does not create a burden of proving it.

What you are saying is basically feminist jurisprudence.

[–]j3utton 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

It is never the legal responsibility of the accused to prove their innocence.

I never claimed it was. You need to work on your reading comprehension. You can read some other replies to comments here for more context if you need it.

Yes, you did. And I quoted the text where you did.

You can use words like these after you start reading the text you are responding to.

You seem to be misinterpreting what was written.

There are two separate issues being discussed here. You want to focus on the burden of proof of proving the allegations true. That's not what I'm discussing. I'm discussing the burden of proof of proving the allegations false. They are not the same thing yet you seem to be falsely conflating the two. This is where reading comprehension would come in handy.

To the first issue - no one, including myself, is claiming the accused needs to prove they are innocent by proving the allegations against them are false. They are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The burden of proof is on the accuser. However, if the burden of proof is not met, that does not necessarily mean the allegations are false, it just means they couldn't be proven true.

Now, on to the second point, which is the point I've been trying to discuss. Making a false allegation is itself a crime. If you're going to accuse someone of making a false allegation you need to prove the allegation they made is false, because the person you are accusing is also innocent until proven guilty.

Hopefully that cleared things up for you.

[–]scyth3s 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

That was a clear and concise explanation, so there's approximately zero chance it cleared anything up for him.

There is no such burden.

They are not the same thing yet you seem to be falsely conflating the two.

One is real, the other is not.

To the first issue - no one, including myself, is claiming the accused needs to prove they are innocent by proving the allegations against them are false.

I disagree, we see words like these...

  • "Yes, the burden of proof is on the accuser, but the absence of proof does not mean the allegations are false."

By this login Kavenaugh should not have been confirmed, as the possibility that he might be innocent is thrown out the window, with prejudice.

The burden of proof is on the accuser.

Since the man cannot accuse a woman of making a false rape accusation (as it is not even against the law), what burden of proof do you assert he bears?

Making a false allegation is itself a crime.

It is not a crime against the man accused, even if he spends 20 years in prison, he has no legal standing to raise a criminal case against the women. Only the prosecutor can, and that as a crime against the state.

If you're going to accuse someone of making a false allegation you need to prove the allegation they made is false

Victims of false rape accusations have no standing to make a criminal accusation against the woman.

because the person you are accusing is also innocent until proven guilty.

Even women who are tried for perjury (US) or 'wasting police time' or 'perverting the course of justice' (UK) usually get suspended sentences at worse. Both the US and UK governments would rather put innocent men in prison than guilty women, so they almost never try women, even when their is clear evidence that they were not raped. Just ask Liam Allan.

Hopefully that cleared things up for you.

You seem to think there is some equality between the positions of men and women in these things. There is none.

[–]keyjunkrock 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What the hell are you getting on with? Hes talking about law, and you're getting all offended.

What the hell does inquiring about the legality of it has to do with him being a feminist lol. That's absurd and you should know better.

A lack of education and hatred of woman make your assumptions so simple.

The burden of proof is on the person making an assertion. The person who posted this to Reddit made the assertion that the accusations were false (as opposed to unproven). The poster has therefore accepted a burden of proof.

Where is the proof?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The person who posted this to Reddit made the assertion that the accusations were false (as opposed to unproven).

Incorrect. Heard claimed they were true. Dep claimed they were false. Poster regurgitated Dep's statement (admittedly without evidence being shown). Burden of proof, imo, is still on Heard as the initial accuser. Anything before she does that is needless social churn.

[–]Smallpaul 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Poster regurgitated Dep’s statement as if it were true as opposed to just a statement.

It would be wrong to post that Dep is a proven abuser. It is equally wrong to post that Heard is a proven liar. Neither assertion has much evidence behind it.

[–]tothecatmobile 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Innocent until proven guilty goes both ways, that's why courts don't determine if a person is innocent or not, they just see if the evidence is there to prove their guilt.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Of course it does. Note I never said who I believed much less made any categorical assertion as to who was right. I said that the burden of proof is on the accuser. And it is.

As far as

Innocent until proven guilty goes both ways

goes, only one (Heard vs Dep) of them was making accusations. So this is a needless non-sequitur.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Glad her and Elon Musk are over now, Amber Heard isn't a healthy influence

[–]mr2jay 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How do you think it's effecting him?

Probably like Harvey who was getting verbally abused and physically confronted when he went out in public.

If you make the claims be prepared for them as it will effect both lives greatly imo

Read the article. She promised to give the $7 million to charity but only ended up giving “part of” the money to charity.

[–]miroku000 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, according to the article, she accused him of domestic abuse but then said that there was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. So I guess there it was accidental domestic abuse?

Could be it was mate.

[–]tenchineuro -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, I was not wild about the character, but I has assumed it was written that way with Jack Sparrow as an always drunk pirate. Perhaps then he's not that great an actor, but apparently he plays this part well.

[–]omegaphallic 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She built her career on being hot and she is getting older, it's not like she is known for being a brilliant actress, so she is likely confusing being traded in for younger, hopefully more talented actresses for retaliatiation.

[–]jerkass 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Amber Heard was physically and verbally abusive to me. Why is she still acting?

[–]girlnamedmartin -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To save what’s left of her reputation and “appear” to be standing up for women

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's such a bummer that someone like her gets involved in a franchise and gets a big character like Mera, specially with a director who's doing things good for the DCEU and gets the characters so right. Now she's getting all the spotlight, praise and shit.

The worst part has been seeing all the men fanboys acting like none of this false accusation happened, just because she's hot and dressed up in a tight onesie showing boobs.

[–]Kodiak01 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, so "blacklisted" she appeared in Justice League, Aquaman, London Fields and Gully in the past two years alone...

[–]ILOVEASIANCUNTS 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She hit the wall hard.

[–]girlnamedmartin 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

My question is if all she was after was money wouldn’t she have been better off to simply divorce him... she’d get the same amount right?

[–]EricAllonde[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Lying about DV is a tactic that women often use to get a more favorable divorce settlement.

[–]girlnamedmartin 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Was her over all intent to actually have him sent to jail? Because the ethics of this girl are messed up if that’s the case

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I haven't been following this much. Were the accusations determined to be false?

[–]gdan95 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Where in the article does it prove the allegations were false?

[–]Mythandros 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If these allegations are false, she deserves whatever social justice she gets. I would have absolutely no empathy for her.

And even if they are true (I doubt it), airing your dirty laundry on social media is inappropriate at BEST.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not Mera 😭 I developed a huge crush in on her after aquaman 😂

[–]monoveloso 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Revealing that it not only impacted her personal life but her professional one, too she claimed she was 'blacklisted' by Hollywood, revealing: 'I had the rare vantage point of seeing, in real time, how institutions protect men accused of abuse.'

But guys, it is shameful the way these baseless accusations that she made impacted her life in so many negative ways, institutions should protect women who make false accusations.

Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender.

Guys, she should be considered innocent of making false claims of abuse just to draw blood in a failed relationship until she has been proven guilty, until her accusations have been PROVEN false.

*adding: i think i may have have accidentally Poed in the above, i was attempting to be sarcastic

Kevin spacey was cancelled immediately after accusations. Just accusations. Same with other male actors. She got a taste of it i guess. Apparently she was a diva on sets so that doesn't help.

Tmz posted a vid couple years ago, he was drunk off his ass, didn't hit her but you can tell there is some type of abuse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbDIj4w75Sg

[–]Lethn 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So what? This kind of shit happens all the time, you're crafting a narrative here and it's obvious I'd say that about a wife as well by the way. If you think this sort of thing is 'abuse' you need your head examined. You linked me the same video I found so yeah I think you're talking out of your arse a man raising his voice and getting angry is not 'abuse', if anything I feel sorry for the cabinet and the fridge he was hitting.

[–]girlnamedmartin 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But in the past he has never harmed anyone in doing so, not even his ex wife before amber
