A police team landed up at the lounge, Bombay Brute, in the wee hours of Sunday.Sixty-five male patrons were arrested besides a manager and three waiters. Photos circulating on messaging apps indicated that the partying crowd included a police officer from the western suburbs, dressed in civvies. He featured in some photographs shot by onlookers at the lounge. But he wasn't among those arrested as he "was not present at the establishment when cops raided the place".Officials of Oshiwara police station acted on a tip-off that the lounge was violating lockdown guidelines. "Around 3.30 am, our team entered the premises. Some of the patrons were found dancing in an obscene manner. So, we have slapped charges of obscenity as well under the Indian Penal Code," said a senior officer. Patrons found smoking hookah illegally were booked.

Some of the patrons told the police that they had received invites on WhatsApp about the lounge keeping its doors open throughout the night. The police will make inquiries with the owner of the establishment. "Patrons had come from all over the city. The crowd consisted of businessmen, professionals and students. There are at least a dozen gender biased laws in India.

Section 375- rape law (men cannot be victims, and woman cannot be rapist, not even milder sections of law, there is no law at all)

Section 498a - dowry harassment (only husband and his relatives can be booked, but not wife)

Section 304b- dowry death (any unnatural death of wife within 7 yrs of marriage is treated as dowry death and husband and family can be arrested, but no action if husband dies, even by suicide)

Domestic Violence act- only husband or male relative can be booked

Sexual harassment and anti stalking law - only men can be booked

Workplace harassment prevention act

No woman can be arrested by police after 6pm, and no woman can be arrested by male policemen anyways. (No such protection to men) --- that is the reason why they were probably left.

There is Women and family welfare ministry, national commission for women, even Animal Welfare board, but no men's welfare commission

Marriage and divorce laws-

Only woman can receive alimony, husband is not, even if physically disabled

Child custody goes go mother, by law, husband only allowed visitation (if he contests)

Child maintenance(indian term for child support) is paid only by husband.

There are social biases like ladies only seats in public transport, women only coaches in trains, girl only scholarship. Hiring quotas, 33% women reservation in politics.

Plus there is perennial problem of false accusations (98% cases under 498a and 50% under 375 are false). Zero punishment to false accusers.

I don't complain about social biases. But legal biases is a big problem. Nearly 40-50% on MRA activists are women, including it's national vice president.

Well, before that the had been attacking boarding schools, where they killed the boys sometimes burning them alive, while letting the girls go free. But that never got any traction.

Burning young boys alive is ignored, while kidnapping girls will get you acknowledged by the first lady of USA.

On a personal level I do think a movement for gender equality is needed in 3rd world countries but such a movement cannot be allowed to be headed by Feminism.

Directed at the title: That doesn't mean that suddenly "woman aren't being oppressed". You woudn't stand for that comment if the roles where reversed. There is injustice on both sides of the spectrum.

If you truly care about men's rights, stop sowing devision and hurting the cause. Start listning to eachother instead of trying to show 'you're right' by trying to put 'the other side' down. Men's rights activists need woman on their side, Feminists need men on their side. Based on your post, I realize this will be difficult for you to understand, but both things can be and are true.

Domestic violence and sexual assault is a major problem in India. To such an extent that before the "a toilet in every home" campaign, women in many places couldn't even go take a shit by themselves for fear of getting raped.

There really are areas where women are seen as objects and rape is a part of life. A woman is an extension of the male of the household, and is not liable for her actions in some people's eyes.
