It's crazy. There are teens and children who have eating disorders, but they just suffer through them until they get better on their own, simply because people are not informed at all about boys' eating disorders.

As a boy who’s suffered with body image issues from age 9 (currently 16), I can say it’s ignored. My body image issues are nowhere near that bad. It very rarely impacts me now but it used to. I used to obsess over my low weight and BMI. When I had severe depression in the 5th grade I had a voice in my head tell me that I was ugly and that no girl would ever love me (even though I had a girlfriend at the time). The voice told me that I looked like a cartoon character or a monkey (not having to do with race, only because all of my lower ribs stuck out). At the time I was around 4’8” and 64 pounds, and by the way I was 10 1/2.

I also obsessed over whether my bathing suit fit right and if girls would hate my body in gym swim. I walked in and looked better than most of the other boys, which made me happy and boosted my confidence a ton. I was 15 at the time.

"Manorexia" is real. I personally know someone who's going through this right now and it's sad because he doesn't believe he has it at all. In the past three months that I've known him, he lost an unhealthy amount of weight. He's no longer lean, he's thin, and he has significantly lost strength.

Kent sound different with their “eating disorders” I used to have a group of friends with very unhealthy eating regimens focused around the conversations of looking fat and bloated in concert photos (we were in a pretty hard punk-rock n roll band) and our image was key for our confidence, attraction abilities cuz we were a walking billboard and our image was our money maker

Hell yeah. I was anorexic through my teens. Ended up with a BMI of 14. Added bulimia on top of that. Fucked up my heart forever.

Connected strongly to my serious gynocentrism and feminism at the time. I was disgusted by "masculine" imagery and afraid of becoming anything like that, while idolizing "feminine" beauty as essentially the only one, that both sexes should strive for. I got attention from girls for being short, thin, and feminine, reinforcing the whole thing. An aesthetic that attracts girls and allows me to live a comfortable leisurely life instead of miserably beating my body into "shape"? Great, what more could I ask for?

Yeah. Seems good until you start having panic attacks over eating a cracker, and aging out of "cute little waif boy" into "likely schizophrenic meth head".

Men are people, we have people problems just like everyone else. Women need to stop minimizing them to make themselves feel more important. Just because more women are anorexic doesn't mean men don't need love, help and support too. We should all be proud of this guy and send him our love instead of insulting his success because of his gender.

Well it's so hard to get a gf these days. Men have been demonised so much that in a girls eyes every guy she talks to is a rapist or a threat. So some men go to extreme lengths. My mindset is that I have to be attractive in every way just to get a girls attention. I'll probably end up anorexic. Oh well.......

I've had some problems with body-image and eating myself. I used to be overweight when I was a young teen, and prescription drugs given to me by doctors made me gain a ton of weight.

I eventually quit those drugs and developed an unhealthy adversity to eating, which allowed me to lose weight but not in a very healthy way. I've always had a high body-fat percentage but even when I heard on plenty separate occasions people ask why I was getting so skinny(family and friends) I didn't really believe it, thought it was hyperbole. I've been fixing that in the past few months through some exercise, better eating, and by quitting weed.

I wouldn't compare myself to this guy too much, but I definitely think this is a thing that plenty of men must deal with, and it gets talked about way less for men than women.

Well, the only guy I know with anorexia is gay. But that's neither here nor there. Anorexia isn't something I have a lot of empathy for. I know people with serious, actual illnesses, a few who've died.
