I find that most pro-choice people aren't pro-choice but are pro-life. When I tell them just like women should be allowed to have abortion without the consent of the father, the father should be able to make a informed decision on opting out of supporting the kid before it is born. Their immediate response is "think about the child", "you had sex with her so you are equally responsible", "don't have sex if you can't support a baby" which are the same pro-life bullshit statements they hate.

What most people who are pretending to be pro-choice is best of both sides in which the mother can choose her priorities but a father can't that is pro-choice when a woman wants to choose and pro-life when a man wants to choose. That's not true pro-choice.

Really interested to watch the results. I believe most would choose 4 since only a month seems quite small amount. Some women might not even know they are pregnant first month.

Edit: I chose roughly 120 days , my deviation is 90 days ( the same as the law for sole descretion in my country)

A child isn't just a fertilised egg, there's infinitely more that goes in to creating a whole, complete person. Being legally forced in to creating a lifelong responsibility will never sit right with me.

Not as contraception method. Should be available to save mother's life or if fetus has some issues that will have serious consequences in the future, also available in case of rape (false rape accusation should be extremaly punished).

I'd accept no restrictions and leave the decision to women as long as it comes together with financial abortion for men.

I have an opinion that isn't on the menu, I want abortion to be accessible for everyone.

I know this isn't something that is cheered on here, but in my opinion it is the only way to go. It gives everyone the choice to become a parent or not AND it gives children the best possible start in life.

On the physical side of things, this could very well fall under bodily autonomy. Having sex isn't the same as consenting to the use of your sperm for procreation. Yes, I'm very well aware that pregnancy is a very natural result of having sex, but that is why we have invented abortions. It shouldn't be too much to ask of women to find willing partners to have children with.

Becoming a parent or not is one of the biggest decisions someone can make. This choice should never be made by someone other then you yourself. Being forced into parenthood tarnishes the lives of everyone involved, no one leaves unscathed. The child wont get the attention it deserves and the parents are miserable, there is no winning, everyone loses.

Of course there should be rules that govern the period of time of when an abortion is an option and when it isn't. But the general rule should be that everyone gets to choose.

I recall someone a while ago having some survey data (from more than a decade ago) of what reasons women gave for why they were getting the abortion. With the overwhelming majority of them being that they simply didn't want the child. Yes, there were some "Can't afford a kid/another kid" responses, and genuine "Raped/incest" responses. But the majority were unwilling to become a mother.

From this, I would be very interested to see/hear more updated/current survey data, with very explicit definitions of what rape/incest/etc. are (to avoid the whole "I regretted it a week later" kinds of "was raped").

And the big reason for that, is because if we're being equal here about reproductive autonomy, men have little if any. We have condoms and vasectomies. That's about it. If we get a woman pregnant, and we don't want the child, we're told "Well you shouldn't have had sex then!" - even if we do use condoms.

Women should be treated in-kind there - I don't see it as much as "I don't want the child." for those majority of survey responses, as much as we should (rightfully) tell them the same thing they tell men - "You shouldn't have had sex then!".

About the only reason I voted for the "up to 120 days, then restricted after" - is more down to how some amount of women will literally not know they are pregnant - or the 30 day thing might simply be chalked up to "My monthly cycle is late, but I trust it'll come." - I wish the poll had a 60-90 day option.

With the ultimate thing here being that, abortion for the actual cases of rape & incest are vanishingly few - not that they don't happen, but when the majority of them are being done out of "Don't want/can't afford", I have no sympathy for the women there; if we're being equal, I'd tell them the same things men are told: You shouldn't have had sex, then.

I don't think abortions should be use as just another form of birth control, they should be used only when it's utmost necesary like for medical reasons or for unfortunate events like grape or incest.

I've thought about this a lot and I'm a libertarian. So the question is who has the right to decide life, mother or fetus.
My conclusion is: If a pregnant woman is physically assaulted and fetus is harmed/killed, at what point in pregnancy would the perpetrator be charged with harming/killing fetus? That would be the line I would assume personhood and right to life for fetus.

I picked medical harm one but want to point out that "medical harm" definition can be quite broad.I live in poland and we had to revise our laws because it became common for doctors to allow abortion on basis of "weakening teeth" or "lower immunity for diseases". Those are true but are also there in all pregnancies and are not unusual.

I would much more prefer option of allowing abortion when "higher probability of mother death in comparison to infant chances of healthy development". It is more liberal than current laws in poland but fits narrative of saving as much people as possible and is in at least one way consistent.

I would also carefully discuss matter of pregnancies that are effect of rape. It is obviously outrageous to force female to risk her well-being after such incident. At the same time we face a risk of false accusations used as a tool to deal with consequences of own's irresponsibility.

I am in principle against abortion. Obviously, there are some medical situations such as ectopic pregnancies where the developing embryo must be removed.

While being against abortion I do not want to judge those who do it. If God forbid, my wife became pregnant with a SEVERELY disabled embryo (I am speaking of a baby that will be born without limbs or something equally horrific) I don't know how I would feel about abortion.

Nobody has the right to interfere with your body. Not the husband, not the federal government, and not the state government.

Anything inside the uterus is property of the person that owns the uterus. Things that grow on or inside you are yours, like fingernails or hair.

Abortion up till birth should be legal, and essentially is legal for those that can afford it.

Making it illegal or setting strict limits will only hurt poor people who can’t afford an abortion.

A couple of interesting things here,

Firstly, I noticed that you also posted in /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates. Given the mods response to this,

it would be quite interesting to know if this sentiment is actually shared by most of the users over there and if that would have an effect on the results given that the userbase here seems to be far more divided on the topic.

(Also, notice the framing of "anti-choice", quite a strong bias there)

Second, the results are interesting, the fairly linear trend of "more restrictions, less supported" is broken by option #2 "only for reasons of medical harm to the becoming mother". (refreshed the poll before submitting, #2 was 35% when I voted, now 30%; #4 "less than 120 days" has gone from 18% to 25%, others remain fairly similar, wouldn't be surprised if #4 rises to the top in time)

The divisions or 30 days and 120 days are also somewhat arbitrary, it would be interesting to see the division on "medical" vs "surgical" abortions.

on the topic of rape
The UK legislation does not specifically allow for abortions in the case of rape, but rather mentions "injury to the physical or mental health of the pregnant woman" which would presumably cover the emotional trauma of a carrying a rape induced pregnancy.

This sidesteps the complications of requiring "just an accusation" vs "an actual conviction", along with the idea that women might make a false accusation in order to secure an abortion. It's a decent solution imo, and I'm not sure I could think of a better one at the moment.

on the topic of contraception
A significantly reduced risk of pregnancy (hormones+condoms has a roughly 1 in 16,666 chance of failure when used properly, which isn't difficult) is still a risk of pregnancy. I think if you willingly engage in an activity that carries risk, then you should accept responsibility for the consequences of your actions. Probably not a popular opinion, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Unrelated aside: I really dislike the new reddit layout; They did the lazy thing and just force the mobile interface upon desktop users so they don't have to put in the effort to do it properly. I have a 1920 pixel wide screen, why must I be limited to an 800 pixel column? That's less that half of the screen, and they don't even wrap the text in the poll options! (I'm just assuming that option 3 and 4 end with "only for reasons of medical harm to the becoming mother after X days", but who know! Thanks Reddit! smh

abortion is a truly difficult situation. I will start by saying my personal belief is no abortions should be legal. I came to this conclusion in my thirties. if you asked me during my high school and college years I would have been 100% pro abortion because I would have wanted someone I theoretically got pregnant to have one an abortion for my own selfish reasons. after getting married and deliberately trying to conceive my wife did and then had a miscarriage. it was only 8 weeks but we were heartbroken because we knew that was our child and it didn't make it . we have since had two boys and I could never separate the fertilized embryo from the child i know it will grow into. For me it is murder.

so if it was up to me no abortions are legal except for medical emergencies and I leave that up to the doctors to decide. (will that get abused by some doctors to offer abortions? probably, but there is no perfect solution)

I am not going to allow abortion for rape. that would lead to false accusations to get an abortion and I believe the medical emergency exemption will cover this area without causing men to be falsely accused. Some doctors will authorize abortions due to the mental health emergency of the mother over the trauma of the rape. (again, will this be abused? almost certainly but I'm picking my poison here.)

now the practical side of me says abortion should be legal up until something like 12-14 weeks because we have enough shitty parents lets not force more. Also there are not enough parents choosing to adopted so adding more children to that pool probably isn't best for the country or those children. with that said I cant agree with making abortions so easy and nonchalant because if anything has been made clear by the woman fighting for pro-choice its that the unborn child has been completely dehumanized to the point many woman dont seem to think actively choosing to kill something you know will grow into a living child should be a heartbreaking choice.

Abortion should only be justified in cases of rape. Other than that, it can never be justified. We have come a long way with great progress and advancements in science and technology where we can do medical checks to determine if a woman’s health can be compromised upon getting pregnant, or if a man and woman trying for a child together would be compatible or not etc

I chose option 2, but I think that abortions should be allowed only when the mother's life is in danger, whether the pregnancy is voluntary or involuntary.

Generally I believe abortion is murder (morally), but if it comes down to the choice between the mother's and the baby's life, only one life can be saved.
