The wedding dress industry is also hurting. Bridal shops have been closing all over the place. David's Bridal, the biggest bridal chain in the country, it went bankrupt.

[–]semper299 102 points103 points104 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Good, fuck em all

[–]pappo4ever 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yes, fuck them. But the problem is, the diaper industry is also hurting. And that means that in 20 years, all industry will hurt, because people are getting old and vanishing. And there are no children. Look at parks, look at baby sandboxes. Not a single baby. They used to be full with them. As much as I love seeing women die alone and eaten by their cats, that means civilization is ending too.

[–]BEASTxOFxREV 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

That’s also a good thing. Let society die and burn in the depths of hell.

[–]KC_the_maXimum 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I second that. At this point, it's for the best.

[–]Fsarelol 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

that means civilization is ending too.

Oh boo hoo. Tell me why I should cry over the destruction of a civilization that hates me for what I was born as

I couldn't give less of a shit about society dying. Fuck off with your "but muh future generations" bullshit.

What? People aren't paying exorbitant prices for worthless rocks? But... But their grandparents fell for that scam so these kids should too because uh because tradition.

Diamonds are only good for being an abrasive in a other medium matrix, for cutting and grinding.

And to make minecraft tools.

Being one of the hardest minerals has a great many applications in materials science and technology. Although, typically, these are artificial diamonds.

Rubies, as well.

[–]RaDeus 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'd rather have an interesting rock than a boring diamond.

Like quartz with some kind of interesting inclusion.

I especially like Rutilated quartz.

[–]SouthernSeeker 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Black opals are neat, too. Or alexandrite; who wouldn't want a stone that changed color based on the kind of light it was in?

[–]WikiSummarizerBot 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Rutilated quartz

Rutilated quartz is a variety of quartz which contains acicular (needle-like) inclusions of rutile. It is used for gemstones. These inclusions mostly look golden, but they also can look silver, copper red or deep black. They can be distributed randomly or in bundles, which sometimes are arranged star-like, and they can be sparse or dense enough to make the quartz body nearly opaque.

Good riddance. Diamond engagement rings are one of the most grotesque scams in human history!

[–]AvailableCandidate89 61 points62 points63 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not only this, the scammers basically also invented/enabled the entire blood diamond industry through their bullshit

[–]RemarkableReturn8400 26 points27 points28 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The countries where that happens also enabled that to happen....

[–]JustHereForTheBacon 66 points67 points68 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Great example of how easily humans are manipulated.

[–]notacrackheadofficer 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The diamond cartel force bought tons of towns where diamond were found, and threatened or killed people so they wouldn't tell anyone. Cherokee California is one of them. Lots of diamonds in that empty never built city, with no mines and almost zero homes. Almost no one today knows about it. I do deep 19th century geology research. You can find secrets. I don't have many Cherokee references at hand at the moment, and don't feel like digging. But anyone can look up Cherokee California diamonds, to see some omg diamonds and no security guards truth.

Did you read the article, or even the URL?

This is just a COVID caused downturn.

[–]Futureman999[S] 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

The article has a pro-marriage slant. They say this without evidence:

It doesn’t mean engagements will suddenly rebound overnight, but that the potential is promising for a coming pickup in engagements. “We’re confident in the turn that’s coming,” she said.

They don't provide any supporting evidence the wedding decline was caused by covid, just that they happened at about the same time. Marriage rate overall in the US is down almost 40% since 1990.

I could as easily make a case the marriage decline is caused by Tinder and other apps (easy anonymous hookups with chads) and OnlyFans (monetize having a female gender without having to marry a dude), but that's correlation, not causation.

[–]Futureman999[S] 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

EDIT: By the way girls doing Tinder + OnlyFans is textbook Dual Mating Strategy with no marriage required

[–]WikiSummarizerBot 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Strategic pluralism

Strategic pluralism (also known as the dual-mating strategy) is a theory in evolutionary psychology regarding human mating strategies that suggests women have evolved to evaluate men in two categories: whether they are reliable long term providers, and whether they contain high quality genes. The theory of strategic pluralism was proposed by Steven Gangestad and Jeffry Simpson, two professors of psychology at the University of New Mexico and Texas A&M University, respectively.

[–]NohoTwoPointOh 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

See things as they are. Not how we wish them to be.

People aren’t downvoting you to be “edgy”.

FACT: Marriage is on the decline

FACT: In family courts, dads overwhelmingly lose their children

FACT: Women wreck the home 70-80% of the time. That number jumps to 90% if she is college educated.

The decline in rings largely follows the decline in marriages.

The decline in marriages is largely the “fault” of men. After all, women are the gatekeepers of sex while men are the gatekeepers of relationships.

The question that a thinker would ask?

“Why might men lose interest in the concept of marriage?”

But that doesn’t happen, because the answers take a big, steamy shit on most people’s dogma and programming. Too painful for the average person and a division by zero error for most modern women.

ETA: Because I’m a quant-ish nerd at heart, I just looked at overall jewelry data. Those same poor destitute, threadbare young paupers are buying grey market watches (and other non-slavery-contract-celebrating-baubles) at an astonishing rate. More than boomers and well-heeled Xers. Average price? Between $2-5K.

[–]ExMuzzy 15 points16 points17 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Good.

Women's gender roles are completely optional in the western world. Meanwhile, men are still expect to initiate, romance, propose, be the breadwinner, sign a financial agreement and pay the other person for breaking that agreement.

[–]Thats-bk 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

All with the potential for that women to stab them in the back just because that women felt like doing that. Most often that's the only way they can 'control' the relationship.

[–]Halafax 34 points35 points36 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And nothing of value was lost.

[–]Rionat 55 points56 points57 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Ask any girl if they’d rather have a $20k ring or $20k on a house down payment and they either say they want the ring or both. Never the house by itself. Fucking scam.

[–]FrogTrainer 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My wife told me to skip the ring and get a house.

One of the many reasons I liked her.

[+]UnicornMania 13 points14 points15 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

you must hang around the wrong crowd of women then my dude.

I asked my fiance this same question and she said she rather the house down payment and some Etsy rock ring for 500 bucks, so I guess there are exceptions to this.

[–]Madmartigan56 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Etsy is exactly where I went. The ring was a few hundred bucks, and my wife loves it.

[–]elebrin 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is what I did too, I got a really cool silver ring with a lot of filigree work. Most days, though, my wife just wears her wedding band which for both of us is a very plain steel ring. We get each other new rings every year as our anniversary present - maybe one day we will get something really nice.

[–]OpticalReality 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol my now wife opted for the down payment. She’s much happier with the nice house than the big rock.

[–]FinalExxam 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm thinking about writing a browser plugin for myself that just hides reddit comments with the words "feminism", "women", and "females" because I'm imagining a view of this sub where I only see content that's pro men and not anti-feminist and in my head that would make this an amazing sub.

[+]Poly_and_RA -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm entirely certain that both of my girlfriends and all of the other women close to me would pick the house without a second of hesitation.

I suppose it's likely that women like the ones you describe exist; but in my social circiles I'm pretty sure they're a small minority.

Marriage is so hostile to men, all the government has to do is make it more equitable to men with a guarantee that it will stay that way, then marriage rates will increase. I have a feeling plenty of guys want to get married, settle down with a girl, and raise a family with a few kids. But with the way the marriage and divorce laws are written, it is currently a punishment for men.

[+]shadiesmirror -13 points-12 points-11 points 3 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

Which specifi marriage or divorce laws are written in a way that makes them a punishment for men?

Edit: No answers, just down votes. Rude.

[–]Iamthebackupplan 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The tinder years doctrine.

It's mostly corrupt judges though. But they all discriminate against men.

[+]shadiesmirror -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Looks like people are aware that the tender years doctrine is no longer the way to go and it's being phased out, so that's good news.

"In the US, The tender years doctrine was frequently used in the 20th century but is gradually being replaced by the "best interests of the child" doctrine of custody through changes in state statutes"

"Most of the states in the EU have gradually abolished the tender years doctrine. In those states, the joint custody is the rule after divorce or the parents' separation"

If that's the only law you consider as punishing men then you can rest assured that it's being replaced.

[–]Iamthebackupplan 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Most judges still agree with it though. That's the problem. No matter what laws are passed, there is always a clause that says "or whatever the judge thinks is best for the kid." That's why the cases can't be appealed.

[+]shadiesmirror -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Most judges still agree with it though. That's the problem

So, you are saying that it's not the laws that punish men, but the judges who interpret the laws based on their own beliefs? How would you suggest we fix this?

I responded to someone who said that the way the laws of marriage and divorce were written is made to punish men. That person didn't reply. You are responding to me to claim that it's not the laws that are the problem, but the people who enforce the laws are the problem. Are you moving the goalposts here or trying to bring up a new point altogether?

[–]Iamthebackupplan 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

In many states it’s the laws. But changing the laws don’t matter as long as the laws say the judges can do whatever they want. We need anti-discrimination laws that give the judges little power in order to fix the problem.

[–]Bland-fantasie 37 points38 points39 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Wld_N_frE 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

why get married ever again?

partnership and cohabitation is the theme and offers way more legal protection for both parties

Marriage has been screwed up by the government’s involvement as it was never meant to be unfair and one sided. Get the government out of marriage and allow it to be amongst the couple and what they want to agree to in line with their own beliefs.

[–]HamletsRazor 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

why get married ever again?

Exactly.

I'll retire early as a millionaire and single after having lost $500K in my divorce. If I choose to spend my money on a woman, it will be my choice. No one will ever mandate the distribution of my hard work ever again.

Fuck the government and fuck feminists.

[–]reeko12c 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The whole point was to ruin the institution of marriage. Government and feminism is how they did it. Strong families are a burden to the elites and bankers who want to extract as much labor as possible.

[–]pappo4ever 19 points20 points21 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Because we can fuck without an engagement ring, and its the same, but the ring makes all the difference for women.

[–]Thats-bk 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, id say it's sad. But its not. Those women are weeding themselves out and they dont even realize it.

I couldnt give less of a fuck about dating nowadays with how entitled and delusional 'modern women' seem to be.

I have a life I'm trying to live and have no interest in entertaining these delusional, entitled, toxic women that really think they bring value to relationships. They just show up and expect everything with zero effort. Then if that doesn't work, they attempt to make uour life hell.

Yeah fuck that. Its nice at least that these types of women stick out like a sore thumb bc they seem so unaware of how immature they actually are. So they are not hard to avoid.
