I can't argue it is not bad. But now I am older I am not as judgmental about it. You don't know what goes on in other's relationships. Self destructive behavior including cheating can happen to anybody under the right pressures.

It's pretty naive to think people should simply break up when things aren't working. It really takes for granted how deeply a couple's life is entangled after all the major milestones.

The only reason I say I say its worth it is if you are looking for a cure for retroactive jealousy. If you love your partner but they have a past and you didn't get to have one, just go bang other people until you can get over it and come up with some bullshit excuse when confronted. It annoys me when I hear men saying "My wife slept with 100 people but I didnt get a chance to sleep with 5. I love her, etc, etc." Dude, she can't un-fuck those people, so the next best thing to do is to go and fuck them behind her. If not then stfu and quit bitching about it.

But yea, any other reason to cheat is wrong.

No one is justifying cheating. You are right, cheating is bad because it means you went back on your word.

Just don't forget that men and women are different and cheat differently. What counts as cheating for women isn't necessarily cheating for men, that's all.

Well birth control exists and its just as bad if a guy gets another girl pregnant. That ties the man to another women and that is just as bad as a women bearing another mans kid.

That is true, but not due to the fact that there's a kid. A woman can't be forced to believe that it's her kid. It's bad because now a man would need to commit his resources to that kid and another woman.

We accept exclusivity and monogamy as a norm because we are born and moulded in it.

The biological reason to have exclusivity, is because the individuals bond as partners as well as parents, and the hormonal equipment we have encodes it so that a man and a woman who are close will develop attachment and not leave each other, for the sake of the newborn. Just the same as "the baby smell" is too a natural weapon to keep the parents committed.

Attaching morality to cheating or not cheating is nice, but it is far from obvious in the wild.

Personally I would prefer a model that doesn't tie sexual life and family life.

First of all, the reasons men and women cheat are different.

Men are more likely to cheat with someone worse than their partner who appreciates them.

Women are more likely to cheat with someone better than their partner who pays them attention --- even though this is interpreted as appreciation.

Cheating is certainly wrong.

The only RP talking point I’ve heard in regards to this is a dead bedroom marriage. After enough time, the rule becomes that your wife gets the first crack at your libido. After that, all bets are off. Is it amoral? Sure, but so is RP.

Frankly, I think if most people operated with that mentality headed into marriage, there would be even fewer or at least there’s be some kind of understanding
