Is it common for women to have “handbag boyfriends”, as in, men they are in relationships with solely for the boost to their status, and are more concerned with showing off the relationship than actually caring for the man? What are your thoughts on such relationships?

Thought the sub was in need of some sanity after the dozens of bad faith arguments I witnessed during purge week. As someone who has little experience with women, but prefers to view the opposite sex as people (while still acknowledging common faults that they might have) this question recently came to mind to me, given that almost everyone on this sub can agree that women are highly attracted to men of high status, I was wondering just how common the phenomenon of “handbag boyfriends” are, as in, women who are so attracted to status that they view their relationships as little more than a method to elevate their own status,I’m sure women of this subreddit may have encountered this before, but I’d like to ask how exactly you view these relationships. Personally, I find it rather shallow to think that a woman could be with a man solely for the sake of showing off to her social circle, but perhaps there are aspects of this that I don’t fully understand owing to the fact that I’m a man.
