You don’t have to remain celibate. Just don’t get involved in a relationship.

Personally I just stick with escorts and a couple of FWB. Just make sure you wrap it and/or get a vasectomy if you’ve thought long and hard about it since sometimes it’s not reversible.

I’m perfectly fine with going unmarried and childless, I just poured excess resources and time into my niece and nephews. So I may not be a father but I am a kick ass uncle.

IMO this world isn't as kind to men as it is women. Quite often if you're not in a relationship you don't have a support system.

Women tend to look after and nurture eachother better where as men don't, especially if you're young.

You'll probably end up quite isolated

Pros of heading into a relationship:

-Having someone with whom you can share your life
-If you are interested with having biological children or adopting children, having a woman on your side can prove to be useful
-Having someone close to you for emotional support, and support in achieving goals
-Forming a deep emotional connection, which can be a unique and good feeling
-Physical intimacy with a person of the opposite sex can be nice

Cons of heading into a relationship:

-Biased legal system and public opinion about men. If there is any conflict between you and the woman, society will always take her side. If there is a problem, she can easily get full custody of her children, accuse you of crimes you didn't do, put you in jail, get you lynched, and steal all your money, all of this is without needing any proof and without letting you any opportunity for you to defend yourself. She won't be kept accountable, you are at her mercy, you are completely subservient to her.

-You may have to face multiple rejections if you want to cold approach women, which can be devastating on your mental health. Cold approaching women in this day and age is also risky.

-The financial costs of having a woman on your side is not to be underestimated. Between paying for dates, paying buying gifts, and potentially supporting her financially, it can add up quickly.

-The time investment shouldn't be underestimated either. A lot of women can require a significant amount of your free time, which may prevent you from developing friendships and hobbies outside of your relationship

-A lot of women don't like when men are emotionally open with them and view them as weak. Not having the emotional support we were supposed to get at the beginning kinda defeats the purpose of marriage imo.

-You may encounter one or more women with whom you are not well-matched.

Choosing to remain single or not is a difficult decision that only you can make. It's important to consider the advantages and disadvantages and think about what is best for you. Just know that there are ways to meet your needs and find happiness, even if you decide to stay single.

If I could go back and give my 18 yo self advice, I'd tell me to just stick to strippers and escorts. Getting GF's got me a lot more sex, but when things ended it hurt a lot more. Many women assume that when you're dating you're deciding if you want to get married or not, and they will probably start seriously asking after about a year. They don't really think of life in terms of just living, loving, and getting laid. I'd say take care of business first, think about romance last, and don't make decisions that don't benefit you.

It is neither good nor bad, just another option in life with some pros and some cons. We are all so different that what works for one, might not for another so... up to you.

But just in general, I don't think its worth it to set a mind on one particular path - like if you meet someone and you get the reasons to be with them, why not.

You know I will never understand why people shame being a virgin. I get it constantly and I am only 21, but I am saving myself. There is nothing wrong in it. I couldn't be celibate to save my life. I am single and would like to stay that way. I have a trusted group of FWBs. If staying celibate and single done for the right reasons - self-improvement and an explicit desire to be by yourself - then why not?

These days, about the only benefit that men get out of a relationship is companionship, emotional intimacy, and sex; none of which is guaranteed, and are frequently missing either in part or in whole. And you can replace the first one with male friends and/or a good dog, and the last with a reliable call girl.
