Assume attraction.

If she is giving you the eye, you win.
If she wasn't giving you the eye and gets interested, you win.
If she wasn't giving you the eye and isn't interested, you lose nothing.

Put yourself in the mindset that they're ALL giving you the look. Just choose the girl youre interested in and approach. Whether or not she's interested in you before youve spoken shouldn't affect whether or not you approach IMO.

To answer your question, I've had better results with women who've made prolonged gazes at me or frequent glances. They don't necessarily have a look on their face, there's nothing to look for there.

If they smile a bit
If they look at you and then quickly look away if you catch them [should be mentioned though that they should do so shyly with some sort of smile, ie, doesn't count if her face is completely expressionless and she just looks away]
If they look at you just a little bit too long

However, the general rule of thumb is just assume attraction. That girl over there? Oh yeah she definitely just gave me the look. No doubt.

Note: A good thing to practice is looking at any girl you see and making them break eye contact. This not only helps you build confidence but also extends it outwards - although, dont just obviously stare at people for ages like some sort of weirdo. When I first started off if I ever locked eyes with a girl I would immediately look away and try "play it cool". In reality, if you're the one holding eye contact you'll start to notice these traits girls have more often (ie look away, smile etc...) and have more opportunities to catch them with a little half-smile of your own.

Assume they are. Introduce yourself. Tell her you saw her giving you the "look" then flirt a bit with her when she playfully tells you she wasn't.

If she tells you to fuck off then you'll know she's not a fun and happy person to hang out with.

Experience. There's no other way to hone these types of skills. You have to get out there, get some look, and make a move, and then confirm whether you understood the look correctly or if you made a mistake.

There are some types of "the looks". But in my experience, think about it from her side. "I'll look and let him bust me looking so he knows I'm interested". Then you have . . "I'm not going to look because if I look too much he might think I'm desperate or to wanting" . . Then you have .. "I'm fucking looking at you, no one else here if you can't get that fucking hint them what do I have to do say "I'm giving you THAT look what are you waiting for!". . . . You'll never know from the look . . you'll know from the attention, kino and how close she is to you.

If they are working they are not giving you the look. However, if they are working, chat them up a bit. If there is no one else in line, just make it quick. A comment, a few words then a smile as you leave. Come back another time and talk to them again. That's the point where you could ask them out. Otherwise don't bother.

Its fairly easy to tell if she's mirin. She will look at you longer than if she didnt cared. Like 5-10 seconds of staring directly at you. I noticed this at work since I wear suits and there are girls from outside the company and i can tell when they want it.

First off, there are really no rules.

But basically, how can you tell if a girl is giving you "the look" or not?

Or is this question really too open ended and too dependant on the situation to really be answered?

Don't get bogged down in details. If you do it prevents you from having access to awareness of the bigger picture, which is more important.

The important thing is attentiveness to everything a girl is doing, & saying, etc., not some checklist.

For example, if you spend your time so focused on whether she's giving you "the look", you could miss a ton of other signs that she's interested.

Eye contact at all is a sign of attraction. The eyes are attracted to what they are interested in so typically the longer/more focused the look, the stronger the interest.

Learning how this unfolds on the fly in the field is like everything, it just takes practice.

Actually the concept of waiting for a look before you approach is kind of retarded in the first place.

You can (need to) usually generate interest where there was none by approaching. Try by pulling them out of their shell.

"The look" is not a cue to be waited for. Approach regardless and stay in the game as long as you can.

If she gives you the big eyes, it means that she is fascinated by you or what you're saying and you have managed to generate attraction.

It's also a physiological reaction of the body, because with big eyes, the person can take in more information.
