Yesterday I was in line at a convenience store.

In front of me was a man. In front of him was a woman who was marginally attractive. For some reason, the smell of burnt wax was floating around the store. The woman turned and made a comment to the man. The guy then made a quick joke about it and the woman laughed.

You could tell the guy wanted to proceed but he was just speechless. The woman just kind of turned around and continued to wait. The man began kind of shuffling his feet, obviously deep in thought for some kind of follow up to his witty banter. Suddenly his eyes light up.

He taps the woman on the should and says, "Or...or....there's two Finnish people in here!"

Woman: "What?" looking puzzled.

Man: "Cause we smell PARAFFIN!" then he stood there with a big dumb grin on his face

The woman just slowly turned back around, paid for her items and left without a word. The awkwardness from watching this guy "work" was about as painful as swallowing broken glass.....

We are here to make sure we are never that guy. Ever.

EDIT: Allow me to make a clarification. The joke itself, delivered in the right frame and proper context could work. What I'm saying is that the desperate searching for something to say and trying too hard to sound clever can sting you. Bad.
