She didn’t love him. She’s just upset that people might think she’s a bad person for what she did. She wasn’t infatuated with him any more, wasn’t “in love” so time to kick him to the curb and seek limerence elsewhere.

For her, it it’s all about the emotion. Where is her loyalty and ability to stay committed?

My ex brought up an open thing in the ILYBINILWY conversation when she sprung the whole thing on me. Just a quick mention of how we could be open or something, didn't even explicitly mention "open marriage", how a friend of her had done that and liked it (not marriage, only relationship) etc.

Imho she just wanted the benefit of getting with her new guy (no idea if she was already with him at that point or just this close to closing the deal) while still enjoying the benefits of marriage, me as a provider and husband, not being divorced and all that comes with etc., i.e., she wanted to have an affair with my blessing while actually already being completely done with us.

Of course that shit didn't fly, pretty much the last thing I wanted to hear in that moment.

Open marriage request means:

  1. She has cheated and feels guilty and wants to wipe that away.

  2. She wants to get her back blown out by Johnny Thunderbang while utilizing you for your resources and support (cake eater).

  3. She is actively interviewing your replacement (monkey branching).

At any rate, She already has cheated or knows who she wants to bang...maybe she even has a list!

It's over. End it.

Recently my son called to tell me his wife of almost 4 years had a big change of heart on kids (no longer wants them) and wants to open the marriage. Gave him that same list with the advice, “get out now as fast and painless as possible, then take a long hard look at yourself and what you want and are willing to pay for it before you even date seriously afterwards.”

[–]CulturedGentleman921 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

What did he do??

[–]TenuousOgre 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

He’s getting a divorce.

[–]CulturedGentleman921 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah but did he blindside her ass by slapping her in the chest with divorce papers

[–]TenuousOgre 5 points6 points7 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, they talked and agreed since she was already trying to date she should move out immediately. So she did, he's served her since.

[–]KETCHUM540 6 points7 points8 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yup. And, if he agrees to it and later on decides to get a divorce then he is condoning her cheating which could play a part in alimony payments.

[–]UseResponsible4368 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I heard from a divorce attorney that conversations about "Open Marriage" are hearsay except in very rare instances where there is something in writing. And often, the guy is so beat down that he will aquiesce in writing (though in some jurisdictions, his agreement doesn't matter; like you can't agree to get beaten up - the adultery is adultery whether winked at or not).

A typical woman bases her decisions on feelings. Feelings produce dopamine in women. Dopamine makes humans feel good. This is part of female nature. It's not a bad thing, it just is. Unfortunately the effects of dopamine are similar to other drugs, the same input produces diminishing results over time. Therefore, if a woman feels like her man isn't meeting her needs, even if he is, then she will look for another man. Once the woman finds another man who makes her feel good, she will focus all her energy on getting more of that feeling... This includes torching a marriage to a good man. Typically the women come up with nonsense reasons to justify what they are doing in order to obfuscate the underlying reason, which is that she's seeking more feelings.

[–]probebeta 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So if you want abundance with women you just need to have a lot of coke around. Perfect! 😂

[–]OkEmphasis5923 7 points8 points9 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is exactly it. They're like junkies always chasing the next high.

To be fair, there's a lot of guys doing the same except most of them don't want to torch their family in the process. The root of this difference lies in our primitive sexual programming. Males are hardwired to have sex with as many as possible and preserve those they have. Females want the best possible and discard the rest. Marriage was supposed to elevate us beyond this monkey fuck fest but the gals found it too restricting so here we are.

You want some laughs? Go over to the datingoverforty sub. Its mostly gals complaining about being pumped and dumped. Monkey fuck fest is what they wanted, its what we'll give them.

[–]Dunkman83 8 points9 points10 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

yep all dopamine.

women would rather be in an "exciting" toxic relationship, than to be in a "boring" good one.

[–]AirSailer 6 points7 points8 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yep. Women want to fuck the exciting "bad boys", but they settle for regular men (who are usually perfectly happy with open access to predictable sex with the same person) to get their financial/family needs met. It's ironic that men are considered the horny sex when in actuality it's women that want to experience extraordinary sexual encounters.

Men and society have been socialized to view women as proper and civilized and men as animalistic when the reality is opposite.

[–]UseResponsible4368 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep. The reason women were called the "Weaker Sex" is not due to being physically weaker, less endurance, etc. It's because until very recently, women were considered - due to their emotional nature - more subject to temptation and sin. The only one men were considered more likely to indulge in was Wrath.

[–]One-Donkey-9418 22 points23 points24 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Any woman that demands this( screwing other guys) grant her it and divorce her. Do not look back. Good times are in your future. Do not take them back, ever.

You'd love "Strong Successful Male" on youtube. A huge chunk of his content is men writing in to him or to reddit with "Open Marriage Requests". You might want to check out some of his youtubes on the subject, some are quite entertaining, and all are eye-opening. The funniest ones are when the woman asks for it (so she can cheat guilt-free with the boss, physical trainer, coworker, etc.) and the affair partner eventually kicks her to the curb, while the guy is being pounced on by every other woman in his life. Usually to guys in their 30s and 40s that married in their late 20s/early 30s. And their wives now in their late 30s/40s. Once her boss refuses to leave HIS wife or the Physical Trainer tires of the MILF challenge, she quickly realizes she isn't a 21-year old hottie at the Cancun Spring Break Party, while hubby is being chased by every 27-35 year old at the office, fitness center, etc. Then wife demands to "close" the relationship again, ha!

Oh does the valuation change!

All this being said, yep, No woman in love wants an open marriage. What they want is the Female version of what was called the "Madonna/Whore" Complex in previous generations, except their version is "Sugar Daddy/Bad Boy" complex where they want one guy to dry their tears and pay their bills, but other guys to give them the thrills.

However, according to that now-famous divorce attorney (Jim Sexton? I think his name is) whose interview had millions of views, an open marriage request is hearsay unless it's written, and even then .

[–]bes753 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

An open marriage request is hearsay, but in most jurisdictions it may still be admissable in court.

It is what is known as an admission by a party-opponent.

Standard disclaimer that I am a lawyer, but not your lawyer, and may not be licensed to practice in your jurisdiction.

[–]blinkyvx 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

What about when the male brings up the open marriage and female reluctantly agrees? I mean Mines done at this point, in just bored at work

[–]UseResponsible4368 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Men want variety, women fear not getting the best they can. Variety for men isn't the guaranteed end, because a man can play with half a dozen women and still be in love with his wife. A man can still see his wife as the Sun and the other gals as wandering comets that come and go. A woman cannot be with multiple men and still see her husband as the center of her solar system.

[–]blinkyvx 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well put

[–]James_Jimothy 5 points6 points7 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I second STRONG SUCCESSFUL MALE

Here are some good open marriage stories. They make these dumbass requests when you give them too much certainty. But hey, it is entertaining when the inevitable crocodile tears come.

[–]UseResponsible4368 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yep! They gotta feel like they're barely hanging on to the guys tailcoat and they're a recurring character on his show, but if they mess up their lines they won't come back next season.

Woman want certainty/security, but when they get it they become unappreciative, take it for granted, and start seeing the guy as week and wondering if they can do better.

"Why do I always fall for the one guy who isn't that into me." - they tell on themselves, if we listen.

[–]OkEmphasis5923 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

1000% this. Its so sad and pathetic.

You want a woman to stay, treat her like dog shit. You want a woman to leave, treat her like a queen.

In my older age, I’ve learned that monogamy isn’t natural. I think after my divorce I might consider an open relationship if my partner was on board for a mutual beneficial situation.

Just because you feel that open marriages can’t work or people are in them for the wrong reasons (as you said fucking the boss/trainer) … but what if both parties just enjoyed having sex with others and had a set of policies but the relationship remained healthy and fun and fulfilling from both sides

[–]rhett342 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If you go into a relationship and it's open from the beginning, sure, that'll work. The problems pop up and almost always ends badly when people go from monogamous to open.

There was an interview with a swinger, who was a male corn-star married to a female corn-star. They met on the set of a corn movie, and were swingers until 3 kids in, then because of age and big family they only rarely partook.

He said that of the maybe 50 couples they knew "in the lifestyle" for the decade they were in, maybe 2 couples stayed together. One of the couples, the man had medical issues but was happy to watch his wife. Only one couple they knew stayed together over those 10 years.

All the others eventually fell apart, mostly because of imbalanced sex opportunities and almost always on the wife's part, her becoming obsessed with a guy she thought was higher value overall than her husband.

Many polys hype this way of life but the numbers tell a tale of a high rate of failed LTRs/Marriages that is sky high. Much higher than the already high 50% failure rate of first marriages.

2 people in corn, and they met in the era of VHS and DVD before Tinder and OF, meeting each other on a corn set, are already unique individuals who view sex differently than most. For most people this obviously doesn't happen, especially for men.

[–]probebeta 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I haven't considered an open relationship but I have dated a "polyamorous" girl before. She'd keep a rotation of 4 or 5 and they would be Chad, the intellectual, adventurous guy, and the wealthy older high status guy. They all served a purpose for her.

The problem is that most men want what Chad is getting. So unless you're Chad, yes it's very fun setup except you're working hard all week and maybe getting laid once a week if she's not tired that day. Meanwhile she's getting plowed every single day if she feels like it. And you're still buying her dinner... If it's some casual fun, okay but you want to keep these women at arms length as far as law is concerned... They have no business in your business if you know what I mean.

[–]UseResponsible4368 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Why bother with an open relationship? Just become friends and move on to somebody else.

I'm a sharer and a carer with not-very-serious girlfriends, but if we're sharing bills and bodily fluid and a roof, unless he's paying the rent, sharing her? Get bent!

I agree that monogamous relationships generally have an end point, esp. in a permissive society like the one we live in (that definitely is not traditional no longer, not even a little bit), but just move on!

[–]Gattsama 7 points8 points9 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's about the different things we each bring to the relationship. If a man is paying for everything, then hell no, she can not see anyone else. However, if the man has enough resources, he can see more than one woman. It might not be fair, but it's the way of the world. If the woman is bringing actual equality, that's to be determined by each party.

But in the end, men do NOT like to share; and women are willing to share a high value man to have access to him. If that's what the guy wants, he shouldn't bother with marriage, as it offers no benefit...

[–]UseResponsible4368 6 points7 points8 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This. A regular Women would rather share a High Value Rockstar, Hollywood Actor, or Big Money Athlete than half a regular guy to herself.

A regular guy, and even a High Value Guy, would rather have a regular women to himself than share.

If a gal isn't giving me exclusive access to her sexuality, but demanding exclusive access to my emotional, financial, and labor support... doesn't sound very equal or even complimentary to me.

Big diff in sharing a casual girlfriend of FwB with the lads and somebody that is supposed to be your soulmate. Not that that's a real thing, or at least something that most people can expect to experience. Tough lessons but life is great anyway.
