Hello all,

It’s me again. I think it would be a lot easier if you read my post called “unsatisfied w fiance” in order to understand this one better.

My fiancé (almost 34M) and I (25F) are planning our wedding, which is due to happen in exactly one year. We are getting by married by the Catholic Church. Both of us grew up in loosely catholic families but have gotten more into it in adulthood. When we first met I was a lot closer to god I guess while he was practically an atheist. I started praying to god that he would find Him, and overtime he has become not only catholic but quite committed to the process, very curious about learning more etc. I myself have to admit that I have grown quite distant from god in general in the past year or so, with him being the one insisting on us going to mass or doing the procedures to get married by the church.

We are to start a course w them in a few months and today we had a meeting w the lady who runs it. We told her our situation, how we’ve been together for little over a year, I only moved in recently after we became engaged (my pre-requisite) and something that ended up happening quicker than anticipated as we work together and I was inevitably spending lots of time at his home anyway. As we were telling her this, I felt (maybe absorbed her emotions who knows) a bit of gloom regarding us getting married. It’s something I’ve been feeling lately. I am excited for the wedding but it really just feels like we are already married. We are committed, we have plans for the future, we live together, we have sex. So what would marriage change other than a fun wedding? So that made me feel sad.

Then she asked if we were being intimate, to which we said yes, and she judged us a bit and said she recommends that we stop doing so. For some reason this really triggered me. It felt like something I needed to hear. If you read my previous post you’ll understand why but basically I’ve been having not the best relationship w sex in the past months or so. My fiancé is ok w having sex 3 times a week while I’d like more and in fact, was used to more as w my only other partner years ago (early twenties at the time, it was more frequent). This has caused me all sorts of issues, from not feeling valued or desired enough, to feeling like we went too fast, to resenting him and his “excuses” (mainly that because of his age difference his mind is more so on us building our future). It doesn’t help that I’m the most attractive I’ve ever been and am trying to get out of this loop of putting my value on my desirability (in the process of finding a therapist to work on this).

Like I said, I haven’t been very into church in the past year or so, doubting if I’m even Christian at all but while I was sitting there I got this weird urge to stop “sinning”, repent to god, and start over. When we left I told my fiancé that I’m going to think about abstaining from sex in this next year till we get married. He said it didn’t make sense and that we should just do it a month or two before we get married. But I feel like it will really help me. To figure out without any clouding whether we truly are right for each other and most importantly to rebuild my relationship w sex. And also to actually have something to look forward to besides the wedding when we do get married. I know this will not make him happy in the slightest as he hasn’t been celibate since he lost his V in his teens basically. I’m also thinking of simply doing BJs to help him w the release as this is not problematic for me at all, nor does it make me attached to him since it’s not as intimate. This is something we could stop a few months before. In my case I was celibate for almost 3 years in between relationships so I can manage.

What do u all think? I’d like to emphasize that I am a very reactive, easily triggered person and this is why I need to think about this rather than acting impulsively. I don’t want to do it to punish him by any means, but because it feels right and have been struggling lately w the whole feeling less desired and so much of my value being placed on that (whether this is all true or not). I barely check Reddit and before writing this post someone commented on my original unsatisfied w fiance post that we are incompatible and that the age thing is BS, which has only triggered me more.

He’s a good man, is committed to me, loves me, we are planning the wedding and I am in love as well, so I’d like for this to work. However I am a sensitive girl and this conversation has made me feel taken advtg of for not waiting till marriage (we did wait to start dating but that was that), and like submitting to god may just be the answer I’ve been looking for regarding feeling lost etc. Please share your thoughts. Thank u!

Edit: part of me also fears that this would all backtrack and I’d just end up feeling even more unwanted and end up sabotaging it all

Edit 2: the gloom I’m referring to has to do w wishing I would’ve saved myself for marriage and not being able to take that back
