What’s the stupidest thing you had to deal with while going through your divorce?

The bizarre behaviour. She made up her mind after twenty years that she wanted a divorce. All of a sudden I was somehow:

Stalking her
An alcoholic
Having rage issues
Multiple affairs
Tried to kill her via car accident

None of this made any sense to anyone who knew me.

In my years, the biggest disappointment I see regularly a spouse that would rather harm them both than see any benefit to the other spouse. I have seen spouses destroy the family owned business, eliminating both of their equity. I have seen spouses allow checks to expire rather than sign and split proceeds. I have seen spouses spend over $100k in legal fees to argue a fraction of that value in assets.

My wish for the community always is to 'take down the temperature' by treating the settlement as a business transaction. View the family estate as assets and liabilities. Confer with attorneys to understand the legal nuances. Crunch numbers transparently and credibly. Be done and go live your new lives.

My ex went bananas when she found out my new girlfriend minded our daughter for five minutes while I went on a fairground ride*.

This is the same woman who demanded we check with each other before introducing our daughter to someone new when we first separated, then did just that without telling me with a tinder hookup she'd only met a week previously.

1) My ex got a Pro Bono attorney. He was actually the county prosecutor looking to make his way to being a judge. 2.5 years into it I go see my attorney and I see my Ex's attourney leaving the building. So I ask if they finally were doing stuff about my Divorce which was moving at a snails pace. He told me no. That they often worked on cases together and that he was going to move into one of the rooms down the hall.... I fired him right there. When my next attorney requested everything he had... she got sent 4 pages... in 2.5 years 4 pages of basically nothing is all they did.

2) I had a GAL, and at first she was ok. Then I found out my ex wife didnt have the money to pay her the first upfront fee. So the GAL went to her house 1 time and never went back because she knew she wouldn't get paid for it. So the GAL came to my house about every 2 days and was charging me for it. One night I was leaving for work at 10:03pm and she blocked me from leaving and wh3n I asked her to move and come back later she said "so you are refusing to let me into.your house?" No shit I am heading to work, it wasnt a secret what my schedule was. My 2nd attorney ended up getting her removed.

But it took my 2nd attorney about 6-7 months to wrap up the divorce with custody. By pushing a no contest because the pos that was my exs wouldn't show up or reply to anything.

Oh the stories I could tell. The thing is that you will get through it. PS… bet all that money you spent on attorneys kept your Spouse from taking you to the cleaners or protected your rights as a parent. 😉

Paying all that fucking money to attorneys. We had decided to use an out of court mediator, but on the day of starting it she didn't go. A friend and Tiktok convinced her she deserved more. I was willing to just leave all as is. She kept everything in the home, the better car, didn't take any of the credit card debt. I just wanted out asap to save time and $$$. 20 months later and $28,000 between the both of us, she calls saying we should leave it all as is and want to be friends. Like WTF man! We let our attorneys know this past week and now have Prove Up Hearing a couple weeks from now. Can't wait till this is over and stop dealing with her.

We’re scheduled for trial over custody cause she wants a different schedule. I’m not against the new schedule, I just had a question about how activities are handled, and she took that as a “no”.

Lawyers gonna get paid for a two day trial where my testimony on the witness stand will be: I’m fine with it, just want to double check how activities are handled.

Just starting out and have been accused of financial coercion, controlling her mind and lastly she is living in fear.🤡

I gave her everything, she was selfish and paid for nothing. She is verbally abusive and aggressive. It really is astonishing.

So far its the attitude that she is owed half of everything we accumulated--because we were a team--but future expenses related to the kids should definitely be prorated based on income.

In court she tried to say I was unstable and a threat to my kid because I am a veteran with PTSD, at the time I was a law enforment officer, Sergeant, firearms instructor and a SWAT negotiator who specialized in dealing with mental health crisis's. With zero history of any issues related to mental health and not even a story about raising my voice, at the time I had not told anyone about my PTSD as I had just started therapy. So it was super great having that put into public record before I was ready to tell anyone, oh well accept her but we saw how that turned out.

False accusation. It’s so offensive I won’t repeat it. I had to go down to the police station and offer to take a lie detector to clear my name. They dismissed it as “not credible.”

The endless double standards and hypocrisy I see…. She can somehow do all the things she could never have done or had time for before. She can travel with her BF, leaving the kids with her mom while we could never enjoy a night alone because leaving the kids with her mom was unfair at the time.
