"You dodged a bullet" is a commonly expressed silver lining aimed at guys who have supposedly been rejected by women with red flags. Maybe she was rude with her rejection and that's why he dodged a bullet. Maybe she was superficial and so he dodged a bullet.

This video "Friend- Zoned Guy snitches on Drunk Driving Coworker" is the inspiration for this question. The TLDW is that it's a bodycam video of a girl getting arrested for a DUI. The guy, who she says in the video is merely her coworker, is in the passenger seat. After she fails the breathlyzer test, she is arrested and put in the cruiser, and the guy starts listing out the drinks she has had to the cop.

I have to say that the title does the guy dirty because watching the video, there is no indication that the title's implications are accurate: there's no claim from the guy saying he is interested in her, let alone that he was rejected by her. Clearly the uploader had a sensationalist intention. He could have snitched on her for other reasons. All that is besides the point anyway.

But suppose the title is accurate. The comments on the video were arguing over whether the guy "dodged a bullet" by being rejected by her. That because she thinks it's okay to drive drunk, that means she would have made a terrible partner to him anyway -- and that if she does get into a relationship, it's the boyfriend who will suffer rather than the friend in the video.

Do you agree with this claim? If a guy gets rejected by a woman who thinks it's okay to drive drunk (or insert any red flag here), has he effectively dodged a bullet, and that if he had not been rejected his life would have been worse?
