I don't particularly care about the content itself. I'm one of those people that will fight for art to exist despite my not agreeing with it.

Does the way Carpenter's music video's gleefully showcase purposeful violence against men as humorous and nonchalant bother me? Yes, but it's art made by artists, and I would be a hypocrite if I stomped my feet and tried to "cancel" it.

But I do feel the conversation needs to be had. And yesterday.

Her videos don't just happen to feature violence against men simply because the men are the characters in the videos narrative. No, the videos depict violence against men BECAUSE they are men. They are about seeing men caused harm, not characters. It is explicitly gendered in that way.

Context is imporant.

Nochalant, humorous violence against women FOR BEING WOMEN in a male artists videos would indeed spark instant backlash. And that is putting it lightly. The anger and vitriol such content would engender would. Be. Massive.

She's a knockoff of Nancy Sinatra, who actually knew how to attract men, empower herself, even sang a song about being a seductive prostitute who robbed a cowboy, yet she never preached misandry.

Since we're on the topic of music and misandry, I saw a post on Bluesky where a woman asked why men don't make love songs anymore, and there were a bunch of women agreeing that they miss when men making love songs.

Women today are misandrist as hell. Why the fuck would men still be making love music in 2026? Those days are over.

I thought I loved her music. Don't get me wrong, there are a few songs from her that I love listening to. And I considered giving her albums a full listen. But now I know it will be impossible to enjoy it knowing that there's blatant misandry laced in her lyrics. pretty shameful.

I have never thought of her music as misandrist. She is a public figure and dating other public figure men. She wrote about her specific experience dealing with these specific men. Some of them were about the same person. And people knew who she was talking about. So no it's not about all men. It's about men she dated. That's why it never registered as misandry to me.

If it doesn't apply to you then it's not about you so you shouldn't be offended type of deal.

While I agree with the combatting misandry, I also believe in using the old “black friend” rule. Feminists (at least the toxic kind) would never donate money to men’s mental health, but Sabrina did. And that to me shows her “man-bashing” is in good fun and not to be taken seriously.

I honestly don't know enough about Sabrina Carpenter. Couldn't pick her out of a line up or sing a chorus of any of her songs.

So while I think this is awesome that people might realise & point out misandry. I can't honestly say it's 100% a double standard.

I grew up with Eminem's "Stan".

Maybe I need to listen by something by her to judge....
