I never got what the point was when the radicals laugh at men while spewing the "Aww is your wittle fee fees hurt" filth. Like, yeah, men are sentient beings with functioning emotions, and a being with emotions tends to not like being dragged through the mud like that. Are women any more immune to rightful anger when being slandered like that than men are? Because from what I gather, the response from women whenever some actual misogynist spews genuine anti-woman garbage is sheer and overwhelming rage.

The term “patriarchy” was coined, in relation to feminism, in a book called “gender politics”, which framed feminism in a bad plagiarism of Marxism, swapping capital with men and workers with women.

The book also framed gender relations as, essentially, men and women being natural enemies, and this being the cause of all problems in history.

Nobody should take it seriously. It’s basically hate speech.

This is the baffling thing, they want to oppose the patriarchy but end up backing it up by saying "you are a man, therefore you are privileged".

They have to reinforce the idea of male privilege in order to justify the Misandry. It defeats the whole point of feminism which should be about accepting change rather than rejecting change in order to hate.

It's similar to TERFs who say they are feminists but who are so keen to keep trans-women (ie "men" as they see it) out of women's spaces that they end up throwing up huge barriers between the genders and creating well defined gender roles. Its gender-essentialism.

It's "Men are men, women are women, we hate men, stay in your lane".

Feminism is the religious right of the left. And no, I don't mean that feminists are bad people. I have friends on both the religious right and the left. What I mean is they follow a similar structure. They begin with their conclusions, build an apologetic and pseudoscientific structure that affirms what they believe, insist that anyone who isn't a member of their club is fallen, and think they are averting a coming apocalypse. For the religious right, the apocalypse is the End Times. For feminists, it looks like The Handmaid's Tale. Indeed, there are members of both groups who insist we are already in those times.

As to men being sensitive, yes, many humans are sensitive. It is confusing why feminists are surprised to find out that men are people too given their own rhetoric. Indeed, a lot of left wing activism centers around protecting people from harmful stereotypes, biased language and spoken disrespect because, they insist, it is responsible for causing real pain, trauma and suicide.

Radical feminism literally does whatever it blames patriarchy of doing in the opposite direction. It's a reactionary archetype based on the idea that others should suffer because SOME people in a group of arbitrary resemblance to them do some horrible stuff. Guess what. The only thing it achieves is empower said SOME people, i.e. criminals, abusers, oppressors and so on. It does nothing to actually empower women or anyone of substance, for that matter.

In general misandrists do this all the time. It's highly manipulative. They say that men and women are equal for rhetorical sympathy, but the moment you point out harm done by women, they flip and make women out to be angels who's wrongs are not that bad. And when women do bad things, it's because they were made to because of loneliness, mental health, abuse, or anything. They read out the narcissist's prayer basically word for word.

In other words, men and women are equal when it benefits them, but when a woman may be held accountable women are innocent babies with no agency. This is possibly the most patriarchal notion possible and misandrists reinforce it constantly. I see a common thread is misogyny and self-hatred in these people as well. They lash out at anyone and everyone they can take a swing at while maintaining a sense of moral superiority because of personal insecurities.

I don't think those types have any real beliefs of their own, they just use political jargon to manipulate you and they'll say anything they need to say no matter how callous it is. And I would like to think it's a very loud minority, but on the internet I'm not so sure.

Secondo me, spesso quando si parla di misandria online si tende a generalizzare. Criticare uomini misogini, sessisti o violenti non equivale a odiare tutti gli uomini. Molte donne non sono ostili agli uomini in quanto tali, ma reagiscono negativamente a esperienze di misoginia, sessismo o violenza e agli uomini che manifestano questi atteggiamenti dannosi. Naturalmente esistono anche persone che esprimono un reale odio generalizzato verso gli uomini, ma non credo che ogni critica agli atteggiamenti maschilisti debba essere automaticamente etichettata come misandria.

If an idea hurts someone's feelings, there's usually a deeper reason for that beyond just feelings.

Misandry hurts men's feelings because many men are aware of the unique disadvantages that they face for being men and how misandry actively worsens their lives. It's not mainly because men are afraid to let go of their male privilege.

For comparison, speaking as a White man, anti-White and anti-Jewish sentiments are not as hurtful today as misandry is, because White people really have had and arguably still have some advantages and prejudices over non-Whites, and most people who feel prejudiced that way are Blacks, Arabs, and indigenous Americans who are actually poor, or worse, are experiencing genocide. With the exception of DEI and hate crime laws, most policies designed in favor of persons of color do not significantly harm the White or Jewish population or demand special treatment.

Some White people do get offended by anti-White hate speech, but I mostly don't, because I understand that Whites as a group of peoples have done terrible things. What men have done to women doesn't even compare to that and can be explained much more dialectically to conclude that men have had it just as bad as women and have been no less oppressed than women have been. Also, unlike warring ethnic groups, men and women fundamentally need each other, not for gender roles but at least for heterosexual love and reproduction; so, hating or exploiting the opposite sex is inherently dysfunctional and hurts everyone in virtually any geographical community. Many men on the Right do want to preserve their exploitation of women, but all we want here on LWMA is equality with women and for feminists to stop being so hateful.

I will say I am a feminist for full disclosure, but reading this and not understanding the specific issue and who you're mad at, saying..."by reinforcing patriarchal ideas about masculinity and feelings", you'd be right!!

This won't hurt us feminists. You can continue having ideas about patriarchy and masculinity, but you can't "reinforce" anything over ppl if you have no leverage or power over. If you just seem angry towards random women over having your feelings hurt from a different person, what are you thinking the random women will do?

i very much understand where misandry and man hating comes from, i feel like it’s a predictable reaction to oppression to generalise the group who are oppressing you, but i do think it can be rather counterproductive and damaging. i’m not sure if you’re familiar with the concept of gender essentialism, but it’s the idea that men and women have “inherent” traits, often used by radical feminists. the radfem version of it is stuff like men being inherently violent and selfish and women being inherently kind and compassionate. obviously, this leads to a lot of transphobia and often ends up circling back into misogynistic views on gender roles, like what you said about reinforcing patriarchal ideas about masculinity and feelings. it’s certainly true that almost all men have some degree of subconscious misogyny, but that is due to social programming not something in your genetics, and men are very capable of addressing it. similar to white people, or rich people, almost all of us will have a degree of subconscious prejudice if we’ve grown up with privilege, but that does not make us rotten from the start and a lost cause at correcting those biases, and i think the narrative that certain people have no hope to ever be good people is doing a lot of harm. i will not begrudge people for general negative feelings about men, because patriarchy and social programming DOES make men much more likely to be dangerous, but writing off an entire population as being unfixable and inherently less moral surely won’t exactly encourage people to align with the movement that is saying those things? i’m not blaming feminists for pushing men towards the right, not at all, it is not the job of feminists to tone down their very justified rage for the sake of avoiding retaliation. however, active antagonism triggers hurt and shame, and it is human nature to want to avoid those feelings completely, which often means outright denying the cause of them. i am a woman and a feminist, and i guess what i would like to communicate to you is that being a man does not make you inherently anything. patriarchy will tell you it makes you inherently strong and a leader, and some radical feminists will tell you it makes you inherently immoral, but there is a large discussion happening within feminist communities about how this is not correct. i’m sorry you are dealing with this, and i want you to know that it is completely understandable to be hurt by it, and i also want you to know that that is not what every feminist believes. i am white, and i used to feel hurt when black people would generalise white people online, it would make me feel ashamed and like i was born with sins to atone for, and then i would feel ashamed for feeling that way because i was not the one at a social disadvantage when it came to race. i understand now why people do this, and that often generalisations of white people refer more to the ingrained effects of social programming, and i also know that i am putting active effort into dismantling that programming within myself. i do not think it is exactly fair for someone to dislike me just because i am white, and if they said straight to my face that they hate all white people i’d consider that really rather rude, but i know why it happens. i’m completely understanding that some people will distrust me with parts of themselves at first, and i know that situations like that are in no way comparable to the centuries of systematic oppression that formed those mindsets in the first place. personally, i think it’s really really important to not shy away from shame. you are not inherently anything. some people will want you to feel shame, but don’t let that make you shut down. you deserve empathy, most especially from yourself, and some people will be unwilling to give it to you due to reasons outside of your control. let them, and continue to be kind to yourself. shame can very easily curdle into hatred for whatever is causing that shame, and it’s so crucial not to let it. you have grown up in a patriarchal society, so you will have biases because of that and while you have a level of responsibility to correct them, the fact that you have them is not your fault. the fact that you are accustomed to privilege is not your fault. i wouldn’t recommend saying this to a feminist in response to misandry, because “hurt feelings” is indeed very insignificant compared to the effects of misogyny, but it is significant to you and we all experience the world through our own perspective. we are all human, we are all products of our environment, and we are all capable of growing into the people we want to be.
