To be fair, it's really responsible of her to disclose that information.

But shaming men who don't want to catch HIV is taking the white knighting to a whole new level

[–]chillmonkey88 26 points27 points28 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes mad props to her. I can't imagine how it would feel to tell someone that... but I saw that post and for fucks sake the comments were depressing and desperate... "if she was on her meds and has low levels you don't even need to wear a condom! YOLO tell her I said hi :)" I imagine it more like "um, hey, yea, um, op?... If you don't bang her your an asshole! But on the low, can I have her number if decide not to?"

[–]Endorsed ContributorRedBigMan 41 points42 points43 points 12 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Next thing you'll know they'll be like 'Hey man she's only got Ebola... it's only fatal 95% of the time. You should totally bang her'.

[–]ThePittWolf 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Not likely. Ebola kills you in 48 hours while you bleed out of every orifice. Not a whole lot of time to date.

[–]Endorsed ContributorRedBigMan 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I know it's horrible shit but I used it mainly for the sarcasm since you know its orders of magnitude more lethal than HIV.

[–]ThePittWolf 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah. Found something darkly humorous about showing up to a blind date with someone has broken with Ebola.

[–]Manuel_S 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You fuck! Now I can't help thinking

"But wouldn't all that fluid keep it good'n'moist? Slip it riiiight in!"

Sick joke...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

ONS, hell you could even have two of them.

[–]redderthanpurple -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Bull, ebola takes at least a week to kill from infection to death. Lets not spread misinformation about a serious disease which has no known cure.

[–]ThePittWolf 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Upon onset of symptoms death can take days to weeks. Not sure I'm spreading misinformation. Whether its a few days or a week doesn't change the fact that it's a pretty serious disease that kills you quickly.

Being nitpicky doesn't make you smart either.

[–]redderthanpurple 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sorry man, Didn't mean to criticize, it appears I had my facts wrong and spoke before researching to make sure. I stand corrected!

[+][deleted] -7 points-6 points-5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I can see your point but that's a slippery slope and you should avoid doing that if you want your arguments to be taken seriously.

[–]Endorsed ContributorRedBigMan 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It was meant to be taken as sarcastic. It is actually what I would love to post in the actual topic on the other sub because I like to troll SJW/WK's but I dont comment outside of TRP except rarely since I dont want to get shadowbanned or whatever because you know reddit admins are ban happy on TRP.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think it's less about her being responsible and more about finding someone who will put up with it ASAP. Clearly she's not as attractive as she was and is now in a position where she's desperately trying to find someone to take care of her. It's just the wall with different construction.

[–]Manuel_S 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She acted completely correctly. A pity someone of that moral quality had to get that shit.

Plus she totally has the right to try her luck again and salvage some of her life.

But damn, thats a bit too much for me. Personal choice, though, no judgment on her.

[–]TRedP 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think the issue isn't what the guy decides to do. Fuck it, I'm not going to judge him if he wants to pursue her for an LTR. That's one less guy to compete against, and he's tying down a woman who could be dangerous if she were desperate. And lastly, as others have said, her condition certainly weights the scale in his favor.

There is a lot of good information in that thread about the chance of infection and possible life consequences, painted both in positive and negative lights. I think we can say it'd be a Red Pill move to weigh that scientific data and make a decision. (It's just a reward/risk evaluation.)

The real issue is that so few seemed willing to say the single most important thing, which is this:

If OP wanted to break it off, that would be okay. He might be able to deal with the consequences for the right person at the right time, but if he's not to the point where he thinks she is the right person, or if this isn't definitely the right time, he should walk away.

It's his right to control the influence of other people upon his life, to maintain his lifestyle with personal decisions. Being in a lifetime relationship with an HIV positive person is a lifestyle change for him, and he has the right to say no without judgement.

It's not just a risk to him if he tries for an LTR with her, but a waste of her time as well. There's a lot of praise for her, for disclosing the fact, in this thread. It's possible that she's cognizant of the fact that she's working against the clock even moreso than the average woman. Give her some props for being forthright, weigh your situation, and if necessary, fucking exit stage right.

Better yet :

[/u/Thenheadbuzz describes how he lives a perfectly normal life with his HIV positive wife.] Best Of'ed. +681

You know, no sex without condoms, fear of death on the couple of times they did take the risk, can't breastfeed, no idea about long-term effects of highly toxic medication on her health, or its possible impacts on any children they would have : "a perfectly normal life".

Hey, I'm all for giving mad props to people doing insane shit just because "Fuck Nature", but can we stop pretending dating an HIV-positive person is "perfectly normal"?

[–][deleted] 52 points53 points54 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I can't believe this guy is getting downvoted into oblivion. Okay, well, I can believe it. But it's still fucked up.

[–]2emptyform8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Women respond to how you say things, veracity is irrelevant. Sweet sounding bullshit trumps abrasive truth 10/10 times with them.

[–]redderthanpurple 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fuck yes, tell her the sky is green and she will believe so long as you phrase it right.

[–][deleted] 36 points37 points38 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

being all noble on the Internet.

Wonder how many of these down-voters would be ok with it...

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They are probably just thirsty enough to do it. I mean, I can remember a time when I was so thirsty I actually opened up the option of dating single moms. Apparently I wasn't rich or "Ryan Gosling" enough. Bullet dodged.

[–]dman8000 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am betting a lot of htem would do it. And they would feel super noble about it as well.

[–]dimmy666 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is getting close to -100. I mean, guy gets over a hundred downvotes for stating the obvious.

These white knights are absolutely disgusting. Seriously, WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE? They're basically saying "Go ahead, date a woman with a DEADLY DISEASE, because there aren't other THREE POINT FIVE BILLION WOMEN in the world who DO NOT HAVE HIV!

Fuck those guys. Fuck them all. I swear I'll never feel pity for a beta again.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That struck me, too. Someone called his logic that of a twelve year old as an insult. I would've retorted that yes, even a twelve year old can see the obvious logic to just date someone who doesn't carry a deadly disease. Besides, the girl has very poor judgement.

[–]Humankeg 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can confirm. Getting down voted for telling the guy that he is desperate if he considers going after her.

[–]2comment 43 points44 points45 points 12 years ago* (22 children) | Copy Link

OP in comments

My gut says give her a chance.

Typical male weakness to a female confession. Someone replies:

Then you go for it, my friend! Always always be safe.

Also, I am reminded of this film where Angelina Jolie is very into this guy with HIV, their making out scene is intense.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playingbyheart

Only an idiot would ask this question. Everyone else knows the answer.

2 years down the line, a girl is going to ask Reddit: "This guy I'm dating confided in me he's HIV+ first date. He caught it from his previous girlfriend and he knew the chance he was taking going in. He said his condom broke."

Probable Replies:

"If it broke by him last time, guess it's going to break by you! Get out of there!"

"Eww, there's enough fish in the sea, dump that dumbass."

"What an idiot. If he's not going to give you aids, he's still going to pass that low iq to your kids."

Life isn't a fucking movie. Angelina Jolie does weird shit but she isn't really going around kissing HIV+ guys. Even if he doesn't contract the disease, his SMV is going to take a fucking dive if word gets around he used to fuck that. "See that guy, he's been with an HIV girl, who knows wtf he has." Fucking morons.

Another reply:

My mom has AIDS and she has had it since 1990, shortly after my little brother was born. My brother and I both tested negative for it. My mother traces back the infection to my biological father because he was both a Bi-Sexual who frequently slept with various people without protection as well as an Intravenous drug user. A couple years after they were diagnosed my biological father committed suicide. In 1996 my mother remarried to the man that become my father. It was one of those things she had to bring up at the time. Hey I have two kids and by the way I have AIDS. When I ask my father why he didn't run away at that very instant he says because he knew it was love or something to that effect. My parents are still happily married and whenever I call home I ask my dad, "So how's Mom?" and his response is always "Still Bitchin" so I'm positive the love has never faded. She does take a cocktail of medicines and has frequent doctors appointments for a range of issues but nothing that she ever lets bring her down. TL;DR Give her a chance. I'm glad my dad did because he helped make me the man I am today and he has always been there for the three of us. Edit: Since this is the usually the first asked question I'll answer it now. Yes they have sex. No my Dad doesn't have AIDS.

Lovely. Taking care of another man's sprog and having to wrap it up for life. Some real winners here.

Taking care of another man's sprog and having to wrap it up for life

Heh. I decided to divorce and after consulting my lawyer we decided I postpone it until after-the-Easter. After reading TRP I sent my & my kids DNA for paternity test. My gut tells me my older son is not mine. IF the test is negative and I am not his father - what would you do if you were in my shoes? This kid is calling me "father" and is 6 yrs old. Not mine? Well, people adopt kids and those kids aren't their genetical offsprings too...

[–]Sleep-less 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

The 'older' son is not yours? If you have more than one child with her (one comes back yours, one doesn't) think carefully how you approach this.

Any judge is going to look at how you act toward the child that isn't yours when deciding things like custody agreements, visitation and alimony. I'm not saying roll over like a bitch and pay for a kid that isn't yours, I'm saying a judge may not appreciate a red pill mentality when weighing up all the factors.

Play smart. Think about the best outcome for YOU, and make a game plan that wil get it.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Well, I am still waiting for the results.

I already heard, that the sole fact of performing a paternity test is a no-no for the court.

[–]robesta 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I already heard, that the sole fact of performing a paternity test is a no-no for the court.

Depends on the state. New York its illegal to without a court order. In my understanding, most of them are just not admissible due to chain of custody issues. If it comes out that you're not the father, definitely consult an attorney. You're on the birth certificate? Any idea who the actual father could be?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Yes, I am there. And yes, if not, I'll consult my lawyer. I do have an idea. And my older son looks a bit like him - but this could be just my own imagination, we'll see on Friday, this is the day the test's results come. One of reasons I did that was the fact, that my wife treats my sons in a very different way.

[–]Sleep-less 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When you do find out, sit on the information for a bit while you gather your thoughts. It's easy to get the news that he is not yours, fly off the handle and go strangle the bitch, but honestly, sit on it. The first and only person you should tell is your lawyer.

Don't even tell your family until your lawyer and yourself have a game plan, because your family may not be able to control their anger enough not to rain a shitstorm down on her life.

Stay strong mate.

[–]robesta 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm sorry to hear that. I recently paternity tested my son and daughter and fortunately they were both mine. Good luck.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Why sorry? Congratulate me for being red, at last.

[–]robesta 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Congrats. :)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

FYI, in many states you are even on the hook for child support for children that aren't yours. So you're probably not getting out of taking care of the kid in the long term. A good divorce lawyer might help you out, though.

[–]redderthanpurple -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Someone has to take care of the bastards. Dont belittle the betas, they are fulfilling their role in life just like us.

Imagine how life would not continue if it were not for the bacteria that digests the dead matter and turns it into compost for new life to grow from. :)

[–]TRP VanguardArchwinger 16 points17 points18 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

HIV sucks. It's non-curable and only temporarily controllable. Eventually, it will kill you if nothing else beats it to the punch. And it's a shitty way to go. And it's highly communicable through sex. Barrier contraceptives help, but nothing's 100%. And even if you don't contract it from your partner, your partner will eventually sicken and die while you sit there holding hands with her in a hospital bed.

It is 100% the right thing for a woman to disclose this highly relevant information on a first date.

It is 100% the man's right to not want to deal with all of the baggage, risks, and emotions inherent in having an HIV positive partner.

And if the man decides that this isn't for him, more power to him. Good for him. He can go find an option that fits what he's looking for. And good for the woman, too. She doesn't have to stick around with a wishy-washy guy who isn't sure if he's in or out. She should find someone who's comfortable with her entire big picture. It sucks that HIV dramatically reduces her options in that regard, but life's sometimes crappy and unfair, and kudos to her for disclosing early and doing the right thing.

But this is reddit, so the advice this guy's going to receive will not be: "It's your right to do whatever you're comfortable with, including not seeing this woman again and instead pursuing a different woman who doesn't have a sexually transmittable terminal illness."

Instead, he's going to hear: "You need to be open minded and stick with this woman through thick and thin! The only thing that matters is if you feel something! Love conquers all! This woman's especially going to need your help and support in the future, so marry her immediately to tie your assets to her! If you have any doubts about sticking with this woman, you should get counseling!"

[–]TRP VanguardArchwinger 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Here' a real gem of a comment:

this was one of the few okc questions i actually thought long and hard about. my first inclination was "hell no" but then i imagined an otherwise amazing woman and i realized it really wouldn't matter. i wouldn't risk years or possibly a lifetime of shitty relationships and loneliness over something like this, even if it meant i only got a 10-20 years with an amazing person.

i hope you give her a chance.

Yes, this guy "wouldn't risk years or a lifetime of shitty relationships and loneliness" by...you know...not having sex with an HIV positive partner. Because potentially contracting HIV is totally the way to AVOID a lifetime of poor relationships and loneliness.

This is really the defining trait between a successful man and all the rest. Abundance versus scarcity mentality. "If I don't grab on to this HIV positive woman, I'll miss out. Who knows if I'll ever get another woman again, especially not one this awesome! I'll be lonely forever!" versus "Uh...I'm going to pass and go fuck someone who doesn't have a terminal and incurable sexually transmitted disease. Good luck to you. You're otherwise pretty awesome, but the physical risks, the emotional baggage, the financial involvement -- I can do better for myself."

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

As it turns out, real women don't only have curves but AIDS as well, go figure.

[–]LinkenSphere3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I just hate the fact that if the genders were reversed the answers would be way different. A man with HIV would be shamed and possibly witchhunted by those redditors while advising the woman to stay away. If it's a woman, nope nope and nope. They will shame the man and this thread happens. Fuck western culture, and weak western men. They lost too many fucking values in the face of liberalism.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Please do not attribute liberal socioeconomic beliefs to the loss in values that men have.

[–]LinkenSphere0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You do realise that if you are feminist, you are somehow "liberal", but if you say something slightly politically incorrect you are labeled as a conservative wifebeater. The point is, liberalism is used as an interface in these newly founded "accepting" values of "equality".

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I disagree. The reality is the political system in our country (the US, specifically) is vastly complex. There are a range of us that are 'liberal' on many issues that don't even notice to such things. I can assure you that I've gotten my fair share of women bitching me out over my TRP posts (didn't even know one of them read TRP!) and I'm about one of the most 'liberal' people you will ever come across. I'm up for ALL gender equality, and this includes mens' rights in matters of family, divorce, and property ownership.

[–]thebears1986 66 points67 points68 points 12 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Even if it is a troll, the consensus is clearly a woman having HIV is not a valid deal breaker.

Also, anyone else notice that everyone who contracts and STD is always in a monogamous relationship but their SO cheated? I'm not buying it.

The whole thread is horrifying....

[–]thebears1986 36 points37 points38 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This guy has the exact opposite of abundance mentality. He goes out once with an actual living, breathing woman and would rather date her and her HIV than oh, I don't know, any of the other 3 billion women on this planet.

[–]thebears1986 54 points55 points56 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Let's not sugar coat this by calling it "only an STD". This is an incurable fatal disease that can only be managed by taking expensive medication for the rest of your life and if you get it will render you a pariah in the dating community to everyone including the people in that thread if they were presented with the opportunity to date you.

[–]rj88631 33 points34 points35 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Exactly, a man with HIV is a pariah. No white knights will come to his rescue.

[–]lesbianDREAMS 17 points18 points19 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

At first I was kind of sympathetic for the whole situation but then I read this and you are completely right. Everyone will blindly defend the woman with HIV. When its the other way around, no woman will shame another woman for not taking such an unnecessary risk. They are shaming this guy into going out with her because they feel sorry for the girl.

It's so much easier to look at this from an outsiders point of view and give advice but if you were in the guys shoes, would you actually want to take such a risk for someone you don't know? I wouldn't take any advice from anyone unless they had been in the situation themselves and actually knew what they were talking about.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Can't argue with that.

[–]Endorsed ContributorRedBigMan 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Actually it might be required by law to disclose STDs to potential partners. In Canada some dude fucked women while he had HIV/AIDS without disclosing his status and was tried for aggravated sexual assault.

Likewise there are entire communities in the dating scene that have certain STDs. If you don't have that particular STD though you'd be a fool to go diving in that pool.

[–]grelknar -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I was thinking more like if they have like herpes then they'd go for other people with herpes because you dont have to worry about spreading it to each other.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think you mistake STDs a bit here. "Herpes" is not a single STD but more of a family of viruses.

http://pathmicro.med.sc.edu/virol/herpes.htm

If you have HSV-2, you can still get infected by someone with HSV-1. Just because you end up with 2 doesn't mean you want to end up with 1, either.

The same goes for other infections....

There are subtypes of HIV, even: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subtypes_of_HIV

So it's not quite as nuanced as "OH YOU'VE GOT HIV!"--you could end up with a multitude of types of HIV infections.

[–]Endorsed ContributorRedBigMan 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah... I know it's not a popular viewpoint but the best way to not end up with STDs is to find high quality clean women with low partner counts... As opposed to the slut who fucked an entire football team on spring break in her freshman year of college.

[–][deleted] 38 points39 points40 points 12 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

It's beta solipsism. That which is real in your mind is extrapolated to that which is real for everyone. Betas live in the mindset of "if a cool, pretty girl is attracted to me, you say yes, period." Imagine you were given a choice - you can never have sex again or have sex with this one pretty girl who has aids for the rest of your life, so you always wrap it. The human body craves reproduction over security, so most people would choose to still have sex. This is the mindset of the beta - if a girl is into me, that might literally be the only chance I ever get to pass on my DNA, so fuck it, she could be a child molestor, but maybe the patriachy made her that way and I can give her therapy!

And so betas assume that others must be in that same mindset. It is beyond their imagination that there are guys out there who don't consider it "lucky" to get laid or to experience a girl's attraction.

The only reason he's considering it is because she's very high quality in almost every other way.

No, she isn't. She is;

  • Post Wall (30)
  • HIV infected
  • Likely a massive rider of the cock round about prior to the HIV infection.
  • Has horrible decision making skills, because even if her story is true she fell for a guy who was barebacking lots of strange people, or was a drug user. Either way, she paid the ultimate price for her taste in "bad boys"

He could be out there, chasing 21 yr olds who are HIV free and don't have any of the baggage this chick does.

The most beta thing about this guy is he has been on ONE DATE, and he is already in love with this woman.

So utterly pathetic.

[–]redderthanpurple -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

SMV is always dependent on your own. If you are low, the lower you can expect. He may not be accomplished in anything, fat, balding and with a debilitating issue of social anxiety.

This of this bitch as the shark and men as the herd of fish. One of us has to bite that bullet and it will be the lowest male on the totem pole. Let him have it, encourage him even just let him know gently that he CAN do better and the only way to do so is to improve himself...

[–]veggie_girl 16 points17 points18 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

she's very high quality in almost every other way.

Human's aren't nearly as unique as you apparently think they are. "High quality" is a social status built upon intangible beliefs and emotions elicited by them. For example, what makes a female celebrity such as Emma Roberts "high quality?" Her only inherent value is the fact that she is attractive and is desired by many, many men. This passes a similar value to any offspring that she will produce, whom will likely grow up to be very desirable as well, thus leading to higher chances to continue our DNA sequence that we intrinsically yearn to immortalize through the generations. There's also wealth to consider, which gives her independence, but does her being independent really raise her "quality" as a mate? Unless you're looking for a sugar momma, I would think the only thing wealth/phd does for a woman in terms of "quality" is assuring you that if you take off your offspring will still be taken care. Then there's loyalty and partner count, these can be good positive qualities, but only matter if a LTR is the plan.

Having HIV completely cancels out any "quality" she had. Her lifespan and quality of life is now questionable. Any offspring she has carry a large risk (2% if treated, 25% if not) of the HIV transferring to the baby. Further, sexual intercourse with her is limited to using physical barriers (condoms) forever and still carries large risks of transferring it during sexual contact. Not to mention all of the stress involved every-time you have sex of wondering if you were careful enough, all it takes is 1 slip-up.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

what do you mean? he said she had a phd (irrelevant) and was cute (common). nothing screamed high quality to me. he didn't mention if she could cook or was a good homemaker or if they were sexually compatible or how her family is or whatever he's looking for in a girl. she sounds average at best.

[–]JJTheJetPlane5657 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Or you're projecting your desires onto his relationship, and he thinks she's very attractive and intelligence is something important to him? Not every woman with a PhD has one in Gender Studies..

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

i don't care if she has five phd's in all forms of medicine that's totally and completely irrelevant and most men don't value that. he might though, which is totally fine, but a phd doesn't make a woman high quality for a ltr at all.

[–]JJTheJetPlane5657 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

But that's the point I'm trying to make, what you value in a partner and what someone else values in a partner aren't the same. You can't say "A PhD doesn't make a woman high quality", because that's not true to everyone. True for you, but if he values that in a partner then that makes her high quality to him.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

it doesn't make a woman high quality. it can aid for some people but there aren't people out there who could go from disliking a woman to liking a woman based on her phd... the phd is irrelevant to me as i have no interest in a woman's education except for how well spoken and presentable she is. but if he values education he's free to. but even when he's valueing education in a partner a phd doesn't automatically make her high quality. that's the point i'm trying to make.

[–]JJTheJetPlane5657 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Obviously one quality isn't going to make or break someone's quality-ness, but neither do any of the traits you bring up. So what if a chick cooks the most DIVINE meals you've ever had... But she's ugly, not loyal, and would make a terrible mother. Is she still high value to you?

Your argument relies on isolating one trait of a person. Obviously having a PhD doesn't make her better or not better than other people, but it's certainly a relevant quality to some people in the whole picture.

P.S. I can at least appreciate that we can carry on this conversation without downvoting each other, thanks (being sincere)!

[–]kovu159 -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For an actual LRT I like someone with a successfull career of their own, and ambition to do something besides sit around a look pretty. If the girl is just hot but not motivated or successful then that's just a plate to me.

A PhD and what she does with it is a huge indicator of quality.

[+][deleted] -7 points-6 points-5 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Honestly, it doesn't matter to most men. I'm not sure who you are, but it's clear you're not likely male, or just really, really sheltered.

I've gone after women whom have had 0 degrees in sometimes more intense fashions than the women I know with more advanced degrees. Some of this may be insecurity and feeling the woman is more high value than I am (or, rather, she'll just leave me for a man whom has that degree level and more); but the reality is that we just don't care.

A woman's cognitive ability is by no means required by men in any way shape or form. Just look at how many women out there whom are married and are believing the anti-vaccine nonsense, after all, it was a woman who gave rise to the whole crowd.

Women go to those schools to find men whom are at that level and above. Men go to those schools to succeed. You wouldn't believe the amount of women I have met with those degrees whom do very little with them once they have them.

I do wish it was different, honestly. But that's how it is.

[–]JJTheJetPlane5657 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

but it's clear you're not likely male, or just really, really sheltered.

Straight to the personal assumptions, way to argue like a woman?

I didn't say cognitive ability was at all a requirement for men, I didn't even imply that it was important to "most men". I said in this specific circumstance that maybe it's important to this dude, so the fact that she has a PhD isn't necessarily irrelevant to him. I think it's even fair to say that intelligence might actually be important to him since he took the time to specifically mention that she had a PhD in the first place.

Next.

[–]robesta 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

He mentioned the PhD because he's hamstering why a girl with fucking HIV is so special. In reality, he has a scarcity mindset and literally nothing is a dealbreaker with an attractive woman.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For what it's worth, I'm not. I wouldn't date a woman with an STD because it proves to me that she made poor choices in the past. And I equally wouldn't expect a woman to date a man with an STD either for his poor choices. I expect people of all genders to make that determination.

[–]JJTheJetPlane5657 -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fair, I have no rebuttal to this. I took issue with the commenter above me because that was just bad debate form, I said nothing that he based his reply off of =P

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It could be argued that the mention of the PHD could be his way of justifying her negative qualities.

I would love to see a social experiment, however, if you took 2 8's for women and put them in a bar and one with a PHD and one without and see what would happen. I suspect the amount of men that would leave with them would be similar. Given that they are both 8's physically.

Throw together an 8 w/o a PHD and a 6 w/ a PHD, and that's an even more interesting social test. I don't think a 6 w/ a PHD could make up for it. Or if you keep dialing that notch down (How far down the physical attractiveness meter could you go before it does not help, if it ever helped at all?)

Then do the reversal for men. And see what happens.

However, it can be a bit more nuanced than that. You could then combine the study with degree types. Does a man with a PHD in Cardiology have more SMV than a man with a PHD in Marine Biology? What about women?

Based on anecdotal evidence I'm finding that for the most part most men I know do not even care in the slightest that their woman is educated or has a high earnings potential. Remember, after all, that ultimately things like degrees are a measure of your earning's potential. And men just don't care about that.

It warrants more study if you could do it w/o drawing the ire of various gender groups.

Actually, medically speaking, HIV is a chronic disease, not a fatal disease these days and they have a real good handle on the viral count thing. The chance of infection is way, way, way less than the chance she will divorce him, destroy his life and take away his children. I bet there is not a single case of HIV transmissions female to male that did not involve open sores in both sex organs or shared razor/needle etc.

[–]redderthanpurple 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

People with AIDS or other seriously fucked up diseases are also still people. She should get with some other AIDS infected guy. She also always be open about this status. [–]riverraider69 -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't know. It ultimately depends on the numbers. I'm willing to do some risky shit (in my case riding a motorcycle) that has X% chance to maim and cripple me each year - because I consider the risk worth it. Plus we're always risking the girl getting pregnant even with a condom.

2 minutes of googling found this:

A study of heterosexual couples in Uganda in which one partner was infected revealed that infected persons who did transmit virus to their partners had significantly higher mean viral load than those who did not transmit (90,254 copies/mL vs. 38,029 copies/mL); no transmissions occurred among couples in which the infected partners viral load was under 1500 copies/mL.1

So it seems like a pretty straightforward math. If she is under treatment with a very low viral load and you still wear a condom you have about the same risk (or possibly much lower) of getting HIV as there is of her getting pregnant and saddling you with child support and/or marriage. The costs and consequences for your lifestyle are also comparable.

It may be worth it to you or not (and again, abundance mentality is key here) but it's not that idiotic to consider it.

HIV is caused by: homosexuality (male on male sex as the highest rate of infection), intravenous drug use - and other sorts of sordid behaviors that liberals defend. So by extension liberals defend the scags with HIV.

Transmission rates for heterosexual sex (PIV) is fairly low for HIV. So in order for her to have HIV she either: a) has to be or has been an IV drug user or b) dated a man who is or was an IV drug user. Neither type of woman is fit for a relationship.

There are a whole host of ways to get infected with HIV that aren't even related to sex. However since she didn't disclose them it's likely it was.

With this meta study, about 4 in 10000 cases of heterosexual acts with a woman will result in HIV infection of the male. 8 in 100.

The highest risk is when you have other diseases in the process which cause lesions or sores, with a 5.3x increase in HIV infection risk by that virtue alone. In HIV infections alone, the highest chance is during anal sex where the 'top' is infected.

So it's entirely possible that the man received it vaginally from another female and then transmitted it to her with anal sex.

Either way she probably made a stupid decision with the man, but that doesn't mean it was due to drugs. It's possible, though.

A lot of MRA faggots making the leap over here and bringing their whiny downvoting reality bullshit with them, thus the downvotes.

AIDS is fatal 100% of the time, but so is being human. 100% percent chance of death.

You realize you can practice safe sex and not catch HIV? And she admitted it on the first date; she's honest. She is real, and she's made mistakes. I admire that.

You, however, are a fucking idiot.

He could also, y'know, have sex with some random chick (you red pillers LOVE that) who doesn't know she has HIV but is on the pill. Etc.
