You need experience. A lot. Start now. If you do not start now, you may not develop your social skills enough when you are attractive and lose LTRs (if you want LTRs).

There are a lot of opinions, but in my experience the biggest two are weight and teeth. Get your weight under control and fix/whiten teeth if need be. I get a ton of compliments on mine.

As for advice, for for it. I have a high school buddy that is quite overweight and works at the Waffle House; he still has luck dating. He’s extremely extroverted though, and plays a mean guitar

Absolutely, it's great practice. Just try not to get too bogged down by "what it all means" if the other person does things you don't understand. Just observe and once you get back to your own apartment, forget most of it. Social skills are mostly about learning what not to hang onto.

Waiting is never a good idea. There is a limit any person can improve themselves, and it usually takes a long time. If you are just thinking of waiting a short amount of time (anything less than a year or two) then you aren't really able to improve all that much, and by extension, how much you have to put in to get laid and the quality of woman your are going to get laid with isn't going to change all that much either. If you are planing on waiting for a long period of time, then you've just denied yourself of years of potential sex. And its not like its a guarantee that you will have improved significantly once the years has passed.

If you can yes, any experience dating is good experience (just watch out for STDs). Maybe you can even meet someone you feel a good connection with.
