Id rather clump my money with friends, buy a big property, then pay for private security than have to fund the police force via tax. Sure it may cost more, but at least I will actually get what I am paying for.

From what I've seen, at least, the biggest difference between conservatives and liberals is how they view the influences of personal responsibility vs. societal.

Liberals generally view the problem and the solution to be one of the societal sphere.

Conservatives, however, view it as more of the personal responsibility sphere.

If we look at someone who's poor, conservatives will view it as 'They clearly aren't doing enough to be successful' ignoring all the other societal factors that are at play. Liberals take the opposite approach and view all situations through the lens of the societal influence. So, that same poor person, they believe, is poor because of society's impact, and not that their lack of success is due to their own lack of effort.

For any given problem, however, the reality is that it's actually somewhere in the middle.

A poor black man, who isn't successful, is likely dealing with both the influences of society, racism, etc. but also with not putting in enough personal effort (whatever that might be - say getting educated, for example).

Conservatives look at all the cases of people putting in tremendous effort and succeeding. Liberals look at all the cases of people putting in tremendous effort and barely getting by.

They're both right, it's just to what extent.

Conservatives are what happen when you grow up and realize that at the end of the meal....someone always has to pick up the check.

It is always nice when to dream about that that "free" steak, lobster and crème brulee on the table which taste so good while your mommy\daddy pay the bill while you run off to the patio for your selfie.

You start thinking about all that fun when you realize that you can no longer afford to go to those lovely places because the government decided that they were going to take 60% of your income to spend how they "feel" it should be spent with that being primarily spending it buying people who will vote for them.

Then you start wondering why people would ever think that some imbecile like Sheila Jackson Lee or Elizabeth Warren or Cory Booker knows better how to spend your hard earned earnings that you would spend them yourself. Ever notice that the biggest supporters of socialism\communism are those who earnings are unmatched with fiscal reality....actors, professors, students, welfare queens\kings, politicians?

The Lee woman thought that Wake Island might flip over if we put too much industry on top....Elizabeth Warren wanted a 100% income tax at one point during her campaign and well, Booker is just Booker.

The idea that conservatism is merely a kind of motivated political cognition that justifies high social-dominance-orientation and high authoritarianism has been falsified on many occasions. The scholarship that it draws on is obviously politicized trash based in the work of a Frankfurt School academic (Fyodor Adorno, IIRC)... hardly a disinterested observer.

Not to mention, the way SJWs operate on the internet makes it clear that they have never grown out of high-school mean-girls social politics either.
