No. We won't see most of that.

Poly people have always existed. It's more culturally acceptable to be poly now, so people are more free to explore the option openly, so people see it more. But Terp men are too obsessed with female n-counts and needing to have a higher one than their female partner to ever be cool with her "his equal" in the sex-seeking departments. The fact that women have an easier time finding partners seems to make terp men especially squeamish.

Poly women aren't going to give a shit about terp men that claim they're poly just because they want a harem. Poly women date men that don't care if SHE has a harem. And those men already exist in the poly world - and as a plus, they don't call women plates or use "dread" or treat women like they're damaged for having sex.

Square folk talk about polygamy like it's a bawdy fetish. Poly people talk about square folks like they're old men shouting at clouds.

I think that as long as people are having kids, relationships will be at least partly (but not entirely) designed around that need. The purpose of polygamy in the past was not to propagate the best genes, but just to raise children. Some men had a lot more money, and they wanted to use that money to have many children. Polyamory does nothing to help raise children; it only complicates matters by forcing people to spend a lot of time and energy figuring out who is allowed to have sex with whom on what day.

Highly doubt it. There are many reasons why almost every single successful culture has adopted monogamy, not polygamy, for thousands of years.

The importance of Tinder and dating apps is commonly blown out of proportion. Only a small percentage of Americans use them and many don’t even use them “all the way.” All it does is facilitate what those men and women would have done anyway without the apps; sleep around. It’s not funneling all the women up to the top men or whatever incels believe.

I don't think polyamourous relationships in the way they are defined today have ever been the norm, even during pre-history. Despite what Sex at Dawn would tell you.

I think they're unlikely to "take shape", again at least as modern polyamourists arrange their relationships.

It's not a behaviour most humans instinctively display. even polyamourists have to do a lot of work managing jealousy, their emotions, and their relationships in a very active way to keep it rolling along. Something that takes devotees a lot of effort and difficulty is not something thats generally going to be taken up by the general population.

I guess, if you wanted to argue that modern "soft polygamy" is a form of polyamoury then you could argue it may take this shape. But I'd think thats probably pushing the polyamourous label to far.

Probably not, as I understand that this isn't really the normal setup for polyamourists either. Or at least, when we discuss it they generally say this isn't the model they use. This sounds like mormon type polygamy to me, not polyamoury as it's been described to me by polyamourists online.

Well, here we're back to modern "soft polygamy"... serial monogamous or semi-monogamous relationships over a lifetime. Thats kinda what we have right now.

Most of you have had a series of sexual partners, with relationships of various lengths, and may have more in future. Some of which you "cheated" on. This is kinda what we already do, and have been doing since at least the 60's if not (more surreptitiously) before then.

Almost certainly, because most people these days seem to want to claim oppressed minority status. This would be a way for polyamourists to claim so. For my money polyamoury has never been particularly suppressed. Polygamy, yes. Explicitly so. But not polyamoury.

A situation where both partners seek other sexual partners with the express permission of the other has never been particularly oppressed, even back in strict monogamous times. If the husband/wife were happy for you to have "affairs" and didn't complain to the authorities because they approved of such affairs then you'd probably be pretty much left alone. It'd only become suppressed when one partner or the other complained to the courts/church. But if they're objecting to you having access to other partners on principle, it's not polyamoury.

Honestly I wouldn't look at prehistory to try and model modern society after. We don't actually know early human mating strategies, and frankly early humans died a lot, whether fighting, disease, or childbirth, so what worked for them wouldn't necessarily be relevent to modern humans anyways. (Also I feel like it would be more likely to have women with many men; it's easier for women to get men then it is for men to get women, in the West anyways)

I do think polyamory will be more common, but I don't think polyamory is going to eradicate monogamy. I just think it's going to mean people predisposed to wanting to hookup/cheat can actually find open relationships with other people like them and may be able to foster healthier relationships that way. When it comes down to it, I think most people will always prefer monogamy, because jealousy is a thing we all deal with. That doesn't go away just because some people are able to handle jealousy better.

I think poly and open relationships will be on the rise but monogamy won't die out entirely and may well continue to be the most popular method. Marriage might due to serial monogamy but one at once none the less.

Poly relationships take a lot of work, it's honestly not a great payoff for having to maintain two relationships. I think it's unlikely majority of poly or open relationships will be one sided, I know some groups and none are one sided.

I'm tempted to say no. Actual polyamory can be complicated and difficult and whilst there are some people who can manage it, I don't think most people can.

By the same token I don't think lifelong monogamy is perfectly natural either. Most people engage in serial monogamy after all.

Real polyamory only exists in two forms:

1) High value man (aka Chad) and his (soft) harem. Either a full blown harem in which Chad sleeps with a bunch of different women, or Chad + his LTR + female orbiters (usually friends of his LTR).

2) Attractive girl (Stacy) with a LTR and her orbiters, or Stacy with multiple FWBs and her orbiters.

The key thing to keep in mind is that there is always a person at the center of a "polyamorous group" and that this person's multiple partners never get the full benefit - for example Chad might have a LTR and sleep around, but the girls he sleeps around with don't get emotional investment from him. Likewise, Stacy has a lot of orbiters, but she only fucks 1 or 2 guys.

Everything else is a farce. I remember there being a meetup of the polyamory subreddit and all the people being either grossly overweight or skinnyfat. It's hilarious.
What I'm trying to say is that this new polyamory trend is low value people pretending they are Chad/Stacy, but it's obviously not working.

De facto polygamy already exists to a certain extent, as do the problems that go along with it. A lot of women right now all fuck the same small number of men. This means that there are lots of disgruntled, sexually frustrated young men who aren't getting laid. That includes incels, but also guys who get into fights in bars and nightclubs.

One downside of de facto polygamy for women is that they often get expelled from harems when they're no longer young and attractive. And that's why you see lots of disgruntled older women who are angry at men or complain that there aren't any "good men".

There are also lots of single mothers, as well as a few men who have lots of children with different women- another side effect of de facto polygamy because men with lots of women often invest less in their offspring.

Personal Context: I'm a serial Monogamist. Partner count before I got married was 6. Happily married now with 2 kids. I still believe that Monogamy should always be the encouraged Norm.

Experiential Context: I was on Fetlife for about 3 years. My writings on there and my over-all campaign was similar to my writings on here. Revealing patterns in White Supremacists, Mass Shooters, Trump Vote etc. The idea was, a super left leaning forum, would be a good recruiting ground for my ANTI E/S Movement for which I had a lot of evidence for. (I've been sitting on this for years) But something caught me of guard and I was banned. :)

Revelation: Just take that into context. These are very political people with A Fk Trump SJW writing popping up on the front page every day. For them to ban someone trying to get rid the country of White Supremacy and Mass shootings, something had to have triggered them. Something very personal.

It was the E/S ancestry I revealed with irrefutable proof. A website that gets 1000s of likes on pictures of wrinkly grandma nipples and 50 year old men in diapers sucking on a pacifier was somehow triggered. Can you believe it? There is no doubt in my mind that this polyamory lauding, ethical non-monogamist crowd with their purple hair and tripple pierced ears are just as E/S ancestry as the dark haired, red-tanning tiki torch boys.

Conclusion: Aristotle said, there is no bright side nor is there a dark side. There is just a bright middle and two dark ends. Both of White America's dark ends sadly are E/S Stock. They both stem from the same broken toxic families. These people are too damaged for regular Monogamy. It's up to us, as a society to pick which option to encourage.

Do we want more bitter TRP losers who are always one rejection away from Incel terrorist.
or do we want more Polyamorists; Damaged people who are willing to settle for love, even if it is just on Mondays and Thursdays.

It probably wont. Relationships are mostly geared towards having children and continuing the family/human race. This is still the case, it's just that we are having a much longer time of 'youth' now in which you can chose not to have a family until later if you want.

There seems little in the way of advantages (that spring to mind) for being polyamorous when it comes to raising a family.

Legal polyamorous marriages are the next battleground and it's only a matter of time before a Federal judge holds that we all have a Constitutional right to polyamorous marriage. From logical standpoint, I don't see how poly marriages can be kept illegal. Two men and two women are allowed to share a residence together. They are allowed to have sex with one another, raise children together, and share finances. All of that is perfectly legal. It only becomes illegal when they marry each other. I don't think this logical incongruity will survive another generation.

Will poly marriages become the norm? Doubtful. But just because it won't be the typical marriage doesn't mean it'll be kept illegal. Gay marriage is a small percentage of overall marriages and is perfectly legal.

Speaking as a polyamorous person; I hope that poly relationships will be considered as just another way of having relations in the future, on equal footing with monogamy and other lifestyle choices concerning relationships.

I also really hope that it turns into some kind of political movement; it's in no way comparable to other sex- and relationsship issues that have been the basis for political movements.

They might become the norm but will result in an extended period of increasingly intense social upheaval and instability that will ultimately result in a return to monogamy. Men who are disenfranchised from society (aka, no wife or kids) are dangerous, particularly if they feel there is little or no potential for a wife and kids. The form it would take would be high status men having harem's/multiple informal wives, or evading commitment completely and having a rotation of sluts.
