Most guys who have hard standards for a potential LTR's past promiscuity justify it by the statistics showing higher divorce rates correlating with N count. This is a wise metric as far as I'm concerned, more power to them. However I think there's an even more important metric that's being more or less totally ignored: her family's structure.

Some facts:

studies have shown that daughters of divorced parents have a 60 percent higher divorce rate in marriages than children of non-divorced parents while sons have a 35 percent higher rate.

According to Nicholas Wolfinger in “Understanding the Divorce Cycle”, the risk of divorce is 50 percent higher when one spouse comes from a divorced home and 200 percent higher when both partners do.

If her parents married others after divorcing, she's 91 percent more likely to get divorced.

people with divorced sisters or brothers are 22% more likely to get divorced than if siblings are not divorced.

While unsurprising to anyone with intuition, this paints an extremely sobering picture - the effect here is not a few percentage points, it's a matter of DOUBLING and TRIPLING divorce rate. That's huge. If her parents are happily married, your risk of divorce decreases significantly, and I'd bet her risk of infidelity decreases accordingly as well. I don't have the N-count correlations at hand but I don't remember it being as large of an impact as this is.

In any case, any man who purports to screen women for marriage material based off of N-count should certainly be screening based off of her family structure as well, otherwise he's missing a glaringly important metric of RMV.

So, PPD, change my view?
